Just let me be clear , I don't think guns are the reason for crimes here in the states whether used by fools, criminals or cops. My opinion can always be changed with new information though.

London now has cops who carry guns? I did not know that.
Has there been a drop in crime since that happened or has there only been a rise in police shootings?

I'ts very simple: you can't shoot anybody with no gun. Hence, in Germany where we have strict gun control we have sixteen times less gun related violence than in the US.

In the UK we've always had cops with guns, it's just the majority do not carry.

Times are changing though, tasers are becoming commonplace amongst the force too.

The link ForteanOrg provides a few posts after yours is old, it describes 7 rounds of ammunition discharged (2013/2014) the statistics will be worse for 2017, a few people have been shot to death by the police, that'll affect the stats in a big way.

Knife crime, it's all about the knife crime... Shootings are still rare in the UK.

In the first seven months of 2017 there have been eight shootings by police in England and Wales of which five have been fatal.

In the 12 months to April 2017 six people were killed – two of which were shot in 2017

That's the worst stats since official records began, 2004.

With all that being said though, gun crime is rare in the UK. So even if we have 1 or 2 extra police shootings and/or murder via firearms then it can send the statistics way out of sync.

Like a 42% firearms crime in London...

Knifes are our problem, more so the people wielding them and willing to use them on others.
