Today California becomes 'the US equivalent of a Scandinavian country'

Protection for undocumented immigrants, tougher gun laws, recreational marijuana: California will welcome 2018 by turning into the US equivalent of a Scandinavian country. Hundreds of new laws of markedly progressive inspiration will go into effect in the Golden State come the new year, affecting everything from crime, to transportation, to wages.

Immigration

Undocumented immigration is arguably the area that will see the most significant regulations in California, especially as the federal government attempts to curb it. Per new state laws, local authorities will be limited in their ability to cooperate with the federal government in sharing immigration status, and landlords can face civil penalties if they threaten to report their renters to federal immigration authorities. Agencies working with juveniles or developmentally disabled people won’t have to report illegal immigration statuses. Further, workplace raids will need a warrant and workers will have to be given a 72 hour notice.

But changes won’t be limited to laws affecting the immigrant population. Here are some of the most important in other realms (the Los Angeles Times provides a full breakdown):

Lifestyle

Come September, parents won’t be required to list gender on their children’s birth certificates.

Men will also have an easier time changing their kids’ diapers, as many more public buildings will have to provide changing stations in men’s restrooms, too.

Education

Schools won’t be allowed to deny school lunch to children who can’t afford it, and they will have to provide free tampons and sanitary supplies for students in grades six through 12.

I believe California is welcoming criminals by sheltering undocumented immigrants. Imagine this scenario...

You're on the run from the law in a state other than California (or even in California in reality). One thing you can do is slip away to (or in) California and pretend to be an undocumented immigrant. That may not last forever, but with good disguises or plastic surgery...who knows? It could last for years. Could you end up earning U.S. citizenship with your new identity?

I don't want to give bad people any ideas, but I feel like California is making a huge mistake by sheltering undocumented immigrants. Someone needs to wake them up.

I suppose one should look at the positives and be thankful for that.I certainly agree with the free school lunches,no child should ever have to go hungry. Also about the changing station in men's restrooms.About the menstrual products,i am not going to complain.I always bought my own even whilst being very poor when i was younger, but no matter.About the gender matter on birth certificates, again no matter. That is about all i'm gonna say seeing im not American.

You know whats even more funny is? Most americans are undocumented immigrantes or decedent of undocumented immigrants.

What i dont really really dont understand is how could you took refuge in somebody’s continent and be racists is beyond me. May be its down to years of inbreeding mash up the brains.

Immigrants hating immigrants is biggest joke in this century.

I had 2 businesses in California. It, at the time was nice. Now if I open a business there and hired people for a restaurant business and required them to get a VD and Sex disease check up I'd get sued for something.

This will be a good thing.

When the SHTF and the Banksters/MIC/Washington declare more unjust wars conscientious objectors can escape to California like draft dodgers used to go to Canada during the Vietnam war

Immigrant =/= Illegal immigrant.

I don't understand why that's such a hard distinction, especially when Canada and Australia have more stringent immigration laws. I'm the grandson of a Cuban immigrant and we are three generations of anti-illegal immigration.

True. That's why we have laws to guide us.

I lived in the Chicago area for the first 36 years of my life, I now live in the LA area for the past 10 years. I will take LA all day, everyday over Chicago. The people here are great, and laid back. Sure the traffic sucks, but other than it is one of the best places I have ever been, and I have traveled allot. The only other city I really fell in love with is Atlanta, Ga. The people there are top notch. I would never want to live in New York City, its awful. IMO... I know some love it.

Anyway, have fun watching the Rose Parade, later this morning. I have been a couple of times. Its fantastic to see the floats up close. Also pretty sure its going to be in the low 80's here today. Having one of the hottest winters on record, despite trump not tweeting that, during his "record cold" east coast, anti global warming tweet. Nothing new there though.

Stiffer Gun Control measures don't lessen crime, they increase it.

Because the criminals don't care about laws anyway, and law abiding citizens will be more vulnerable.

But hey what does the police state apparatus care, the less guns in public the better, for them.

Its about protecting the establishment, from the people.

I think you meant
Today California becomes 'the US equivalent of a Third World Country ' complete with chaos , lawlessness , various factions vying for control , hired goons running their country , rife with drugs . Kinda like Chicago , but on a much grander scale.
Better , huh ?

Is there a conservative run state that is doing as well as cali is doing economically speaking?

A lot of people on this site like to say proof of trumps intelligence is in the fact that you can't be a millionaire unless your smart.
So why doesn't that apply to the people running a rich state?

No, it's about protecting people from idiots with guns. In my opinion, even the police should mostly not bear guns. Similar to the bobbies we had in London before the 'terrorist' thread was introduced.
