President Trump on Wednesday will order the State Department to begin moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv, senior administration officials said, a move that fulfills a campaign promise made to religious conservatives but one that could inflame tensions across the Middle East.

Trump to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, forge ahead with moving US Embassy

Looks like Trump has made his decision to not only recognize Jerusalem as the capital, but move the embassy too. Get ready folks... Things are about to get very messy.

I posted this in another thread that got closed. Not seeing any threads or posts on the official decision. So... here it is again!

In order to broker a deal, one must have things to put on the table. Trump is also negotiating Palestinian statehood with Saudi funding. Moving the US embassy to Jerusalem is a pretty big bargaining chip.

Imagine making a Palestinian State on a mountain of billions of dollars of Saudi money. You think the Saudis are going to give money to an Iranian backed terror squad that has been warlording the Palestinian territories? They will clean it out first.

Yea, nothing will help peace in the middle east like our undying support for two countries guilty of ethnic cleansing (Israel and Saudi Arabia).

As long as it's brown people dying, amarite?

Depends on if I'm more critical than a stinker. Critical leads me to conclude no. It's location, not skin colour.

Boy have America's values have change. We used to be an isolationist country. Now we have no problem actively fueling the wars that will cost American and civilian lives along with trillions of dollars.

I thought most Americans disliked the fact that the US Gov. sticks it's greasy finger in many pies, causing conflict to obtain an end, setting two sides against each other to support you, then attack you.. It's the government that is controlling things. Not the average American, nor their values.

Scream at the sky? Because voting only gets you a pole in the face, eggs in your hair, bloodied noses, and the stench of a dozen feral ape creatures screaming that you're an evil racist hate monger for voting for someone who is NOT directly involved with murder of hundreds of thousands of people and laughing maniacally about it when interviewed.

American values haven't changed much, I don't think. But there is a new wave of screaming heavy mentals and their mix tape has all the communists floating in the air with dreams of utopia, having never lived a day in the real world.

But, but, but wait. All the vast horde of atheists ought not to be concerned about Armageddon now should they. If it's just a fairy tale ............. you know, an invisible friend and all.

It'd be interesting.

Ask him to make something even he can't lift. If he can't make something even he cannot lift, he's not omnipotent. If he can and he cannot lift it, he is not all powerful.

Probably some fidgy widgy god law involved where he creates himself to create the weight, then he himself lifts it... sneaky bugger that god. I don't trust him... he hides the dice.

Either way it will be a lot nicer down here without all those violent religious lot.

I see no problem with this if true.

Sorry, not going bite.

To certify moving Israel's capital to Jerusalem, Trump HAS to back it by moving the U.S. Embassy, as well.....and the military support to protect it....cough, cough.

Otherwise, It could end up like 1948 all over again if Israel acts unilaterally.

I wonder if Bebe has the balls to do it without U.S. support?

Terror group Hamas is calling for a “day of rage” Friday

It added: "The youth and the Palestinian resistance in the West Bank need to respond with all means available to the U.S. decision that harms our Jerusalem. Jerusalem is a red line and the resistance will not allow any desecration of it.”

Notice the vocabulary used. "The Resistance". Where have we heard that before?

"Day of Rage" is familiar too.

Funny how the Left here in the US talks just like the go to response of terror group Hamas.

Maybe it wasn't Russia who hacked the DNC and leaked the emails.. maybe it was Israel. Trump had to promise that Jerusalem was given back to Israel for the help he received... could explain why DC seems so split or unable to go the whole hog on the Obama admin and the Clintons.

Every six months for more than two decades, U.S. presidents have had to decide all over again whether to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Since the Clinton administration, they decided each time to keep the embassy where it is, seeking not to throw a wrench into delicate Middle East peace talks. On Tuesday, however, after signing a waiver putting off the move in June, President Donald Trump informed the Palestinian Authority’s President Mahmoud Abbas that he’s going to recognize the contested holy city as Israel’s capital and begin the process of moving the embassy there.

]That decision, which experts fear will spark unrest throughout the Arab world, represents the conclusion of a process that began in 1995, with the passage of that year’s Jerusalem Embassy Act. The law required the U.S. to move the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by a set deadline, but conceded that the move could be put off for six months at a time as long as the President “determines and reports to Congress in advance that such suspension is necessary to protect the national security interests of the United States.”

"The city’s status has been an open question for decades. The intent of the U.N., when it voted in 1947 to partition what was then British-administered Palestine into Jewish and Arab states, was to put Jerusalem under an international regime. But after the Arab-Israeli war of 1948, newly born Israel controlled the western portion of the city and Jordan the east. In the 1967 war Israel captured the eastern sector and annexed it. No country, however, recognizes Israel’s hold there. The Arab states insist on Arab sovereignty over at least East Jerusalem, which the Palestinians want to make the capital of their hoped-for future state."

From a TIME article.

They used to be about 100% Arab there

Actually this was never the case. Jews were always a part of the scenery in this area.
But why does it even matter? The country you live in, was once also populated by different people.
Every country on earth was created by taking land from someone else. Welcome to reality.

Wha... Jerusalem was Israel's capital from the day Israel was created. It is also recognized as such by the US back in 1995.
There is no need to "certify" or "move" anything. Trump announcement is meaningless.

The way Palestine and now Hamas are reacting makes it pretty clear that giving them control of the city would be a bad idea. Way to make Trump's case for him, dummies.

Let's not pretend this is gonna be a "barrier to peace". They have no intention of making peace. Clinton got Israel to make a bunch of concessions to Arafat in the 90s, he still refused to make a deal. Pretty much the only deal they would accept is if Israel and all the Jews move to South America.

Everyone is crying how the "Arab Street" will protest and show their true colors about how they really feel about Israel.

This should be the kick in the ass the Palestinians need to start negotiating in earnest for a true lasting deal with Israel. I understand it hurts their feelings and helps the Israelis but without pressure their won't be any urgency on either side. This starts the clock ticking.

If Abbas leaves the negotiations, which I'm 98% sure he will do, he is just dooming his people.

Instead of using this move as a impetus to move faster, the Palestinians will riot. They never choose the correct path when push comes shove. They never fail to disappoint.

It's not like peace talks have gone anywhere the last 25 years since the Oslo accords.

For sure this move has been talked about with the New Saudi King in waiting.

Going to be hard to de-radicalize the Palestinian leadership. All they know is conflict, not governing. What good have they brought their people honestly?

That implies the Palestinians will choose violence over negotiating.

Violence has achieved so much for them....

Interesting.

If it's meaningless, then why did he announce it???

Because he is obligated to do so by the Jerusalem Embassy Act.
It is meaningless because whether he moves the embassy to Jerusalem or not, it will still remain Israel's capital, and be recognized as such by the US.
