I'll be logging off soon.

Have to travel again. Early flight and all that.

Before I board, I have to touch the outside of the plane I'm flying in.

So it won't crash.

I know.

Weird.

Does anyone else have those weird rituals?

I always give a silver dollar to the first homeless person I see after flying....

Had a highschool teacher who said he had to touch things an equal ammount of times with like both his hands or both his feet I can't really recall it's been 10 years. Said one time he didn't do it and a plane crashed and he was certain it was his fault. Some kind of power OCD has over him I guess I'm not sure.

I don't have that problem myself however. You touch that plane buddy! goodnight.

Edit: I apologize I shouldn't call it a problem, more like I don't have that kind of an urge.

Funny, I have / had the exact same OCD in my childhood. It has gone away a little bit by now, but I still have several tiscs I'm going crazy about.

Can completely understand the examples above.

What if the grease on your hands changes the aerodynamics of the flight causing catastrophic failure?

I knock on my head to whisk away negative thoughts. "Knock on wood."

I don't know if it works.

When shopping, I have to pick up anything on the floor that fell off a shelf in the grocery store...putting it where it belongs.

IDK what will happen if I miss something,...but it probably involves Ebola.

Next time I'm reminded of the safety of the plane I'm boarding, I'll reply with "yes, but was it touched by a Cowboy"?

I used to fly a whole lot. Once seated I’d do an old school catholic blessing. Almost had a panic attack when mid flight I realized that I had forgotten.

Must have worked ok, never crashed! lol

Touch, or grab, everyone to make sure they're not trans, for your personal and aviational safety.

Allahspeed.

My ritual is to always bring airplane bottles of scotch or bourbon.

You can bring how ever many fit in a quart sized zip lock bag.

The last part of the ritual is finish all of them before landing.

Safe travels Cowboy.

Remember, everytime you fart, just make the fart-face and point to the person next to you.

My ritual helps with that dilemma too.

If you embrace the fart, it no longer becomes a dilemma.

It becomes your battle cry and mark of territory.

I had a ritual where I would do a preflight inspection that would take 1.5 hours to do on a medium lift helicopter. Normally it take 15 minutes.

I was very thorough and grounded many flights.

When I competed, I was a highjumper. I don't think there is a more superstitious crop of athletes. You have to warm up the right way every time, your approach has to be marked out the right way/same way every time, you have to run it the same way, and you have a little ritual dance you do while you are visualizing your approach and jump ... lord help you if you deviate from it!

Some of us wore the same kind of socks. Some abstained from all kinds of activities and foods or drinks. Some had foods and drinks or activities they had to indulge in.

It just went on and on.

High jump was just that kind of mental game.

That's awesome.

You wanted to be entirely sure about the integrity of the machine you were operating.
