As others have said, you can normally be fired for no reason at any time at all. They call it "at will" employment, yes the company can fire you for no reason, but you can also quit at any time without issue. That being said, most jobs here have codes of conduct that you need to adhere to at company events and while on social media. Not sure where OP was working, but if it's the oil industry there's also a very good chance of clients and other companies being involved at the event, so the company terminates you to cover their own backsides.

I know when I was in Spain for a job last year, I saw some rather amusing cartoons that someone in that office had done about the recent merger. Needless to say, those of us who were there from the states were quite shocked that the employer allowed such things to go on. Not saying that the employees shouldn't have a right to do that sort of thing, it just comes off as very odd to someone from the US.

Edit to add: As for the topic at hand, I really don't care one way or the other if players choose to take a knee during the national anthem. What bothers me is when all of this started last year, when the league decided to take action against the player there was a public outcry. Now I could be wrong, but do they not realize that every job (at least all of the ones I've held) has a policy in place that governs your conduct while on the clock?

Especially in a public setting for that matter, I know full well I have a right to protest, yet my job would frown on me doing so on company time at a conference (for example). I was provided the code of conduct up front, I signed it knowing full well what it meant. Are you telling me that NFL players didn't have to sign something similar? I'm fairly sure they have, in which case they violate company policy. I'd have a hell of a lot more respect for them and their protest if even in the face of termination or disciplinary action they continued their protest.

They're not protesting while playing the game though. They're at the building, but they're not working.

Good. I hope they find out how horrible it is to live on about $50,000.00 a year after previously being millionaires. Then they'll know what it's like to live like the majority of their fans who are mostly middle class.

No one is stopping them from kneeling any other time during the game. Maybe they can do it before the Anthem or even during the two-minute warning.

They could easily do their protest without including the Anthem.

I know I would be more sympathetic to their cause.

I can't bring myself to be sympathetic. One, because police brutality is just as common among whites as it is blacks, and two, there is no such thing as racial inequality concerning blacks. Their protest is bogus and has turned a lot of long time fans away from the NFL for a long time, if not for good. I'm not sure I'll watch the NFL again with the current roster of kneelers still playing.

Call me what you want, but the wording in your heading is down right racist. I am not joking or kidding. In fact it dates back to how Black Face were made to talk. See Charlie Chang movies.........In the 30s 40s 50s.....Have a nice day!

Can you point out the superiority of what he said?

It's only racist if he's white... right?

You do realize that people STILL talk like that today and this isn't the 30s 40s 50s...

Hell.. My Cajun culture has people who speak the same way and we're WHITE.

Maybe you're just from the northern states and don't know any better. For that you may be forgiven. I mean, it's not your fault where you were born, huh?

Look at the OP's ATS page. You can see that he is a trump supporter and based on his threads most definitely not black!!! Nor from the south!!! So My post stands!!

Oh, good.... god.

And based on that theory, as surely as I am a Trump supporter, and as surely as I must be that oft-maligned white-devil.....

All women are stupid.

The fun part here is going to be at the end of the year. When they figure out the revenues were off by X% and managment doesn't have the cash to pay the inflated employee salaries.

Team announcement. Guys we're sorry. Our revenues were off this year by 45% and we don't have the money to pay your total salaries this year. So invoking clause XYZ in the fine print of your contracts your yearly salary has been cut 45%. See you next year.

Also the question here is how badly the NFL shot off their foot with the protests. Was it a .22 or a 12 gauge they used? And how permanent?

NOT a YES or a NO there...so I'll default to the usual with "civilians".
They are incapable of reaching points without embellishments to impress OTHER civilians, which is infantile when you think of it...IF you can contemplate such ideas...and wastes OUR time,no wonder LEOs are slow to stop shooters,THESE people would take HOURS on a standard SALUTE report.

Honestly, supporting a family on $100K is no free pass to a sunday picnic either.

Fact is, they're spoiled children. They need an asssss-whoopin, or justice ala the church of money, AKA Advertisers.

Cheney was butt of many jokes when Bush was in power, those must have been some really self-righteous people who took offense enough to do that.

Cheney was not even affiliated with the company I worked for. But, he is so powerful, you just don't say anything about him in the oil sector.
