Glad you guys are ok. You mentioned hearing shots while you were behind the motel 8 I think? You said they sounded different than the original? What do you think they were...what area did they seem to come from (if you could tell) just interested in who might have been shooting by that point. Also your time stamp is weird! Considering when one thinks they would have evacuated. An error maybe? Also (if not too personal) what was the topic of your conference? Just curious to know what type of events the hotel was hosting that night. Thanks for the story and pics!

Man that's crazy...! Not that it's something to brag about, but you'll have the opportunity to tell your kids and grands that y'all were at the Mandalay Bay when the History Channel talks about the most horrific mass murders in our history...

Thanks for Sharing your experience. ATS needs way more of this. People that are actually experiencing these events. Glad you guys are okay!

Yes we heard a few shots fired we believed were law enforcement well after 12 midnight and it was incredibly hard to tell the directions. Despite what anyone thinks the noise did ricochet and echo although eerily silent once the strip was cleared.

I used my phone for the photos and can only think the time on the slot machine was off...as the lobby and casino was cleared around 11:15 when I believe a security officer was shot by the shooter.

Insight is a technical conference for IT that would begin the following week. NetApp Insight 2017

Just wrote it now as we were still resting the last few days from a long flight, and seriously long 2 nights. And thanks!

You are right I still have not processed nor do I want to brag other than we were left unharmed and alive! But yes being in a horrific chapter of history was a bit surreal! I never want to experience the Helicopters, the running and panic, the flashlights and weapons in our faces ever again!

Glad you both got out of there unharmed.

Take this as your cue to move forward. Statistically speaking, your chances of experiencing something like this ever again are almost zero. As such, you can move on safe in the knowledge that you survived your personal hell.

There is some irony in the fact that people who suffer these events develop terrible fears related to them when they are probably the least likely to witness it again.

Fight the feelings of fear if you get them and remember, you survived.

That's heavy, man. Thanks for sharing your ordeal. In hindsight, if you had done anything different the results may have been much worse.

Thank you! I probably would have gotten more or better images, but many times it was in the moment and you were running not thinking about your phone or taking pics!

OMG I Forgot!!!

These 2 glasses! Amazingly these two glasses were with us during that ordeal. I ran back to the statue in front of the Luxor to retrieve them when we left them during a SWAT move. They were with us the entire rest the time though and made it back without a crack!

That is oddly the hard part right now is relaizing just how close all of it was, just how easy it could have been to be accidentally shot. At the time having all the chaos, guns and helicopters was almost funny or exhilarating like being in a movie...now it is like holy crap how did that happen...

Good thing you guys weren't there at the concert, my brothers wife would have dragged him there. She likes country. He was present for 9/11 and took the family days to get a hold of him. I still can't fathom in my mind how he was able to cope, and go back there, like nothing happened. Or, he doesn't tell us his feelings. I am pretty sure that nightmare is in drained with smoke in his brain. He's also a vet.

Oddly enough I love live music, and my fiance is a Country music fan however I commented on the drive past the Route 91 festival..."I really don't like country music or we could go listen to the show tonight"...

Thanks for your story, and thanks for that map/picture of Mandalay Bay. It dwarfs all other buildings with the pyramid Luxor being second. That fact somewhat neutralizes the explanation offered of echoes for the sounds of the gunshots. Nothing to echo off of.

Incorrect, sound waves especially at the volume of a gunshot, do not ever just go straight, they go in an arc, the sound waves can arc down and bounce off various buildings below and besides the structure. Like a parabola shape. Draw a large parabola from the window on the upper floors and you can see it has possibility of echoing off the other wing/building of the Mandalay hotel as well as the ground etc

Looking at the map..
The police and fire dept are directly next door to the south on Las Vegas blv. So that explains such a quick response. However... that Super 8 is way up there to the north. You guys really moved😮

N/M, 1.4 miles NE of MB. Still😮

Still though, glad you and your fiance are alright.

We should all carry house of blues glasses from now on. They grant invincibility!

In All seriousness, sorry you went through that. I can only imagine! Sounds like you have a good haandle on things, though. Many people would lose their minds a bit....

Maybe alcohol is also an elixir against evil?

Sooooo a slight buzz and house of blues glasses for all!
