what about fixing the star system on ATS

A lot of people on here complain about Social media, mainly Facebook. The "star" system is the same as getting a "like" on Facebook except they get their "likes" here, so now it's magically different and somehow better.

Here is a compromise solution - And a way to generate more interest in ATS.

First, it does look wierd and unbelievable when some people have millions of stars - Is it even possible?

But like has been said the problem can not be easily fixed - And if you're like me you like getting paid - even if the payout
is a non-negotiable symbol like a star - Monopoly money you might call it, but it makes the game more fun.

So why not try this - leave the stars that are already there where they are - But start a round two star system next to it
with a date of when it begins.

Further, since people are not only egotistical but greedy [they love money] - With the new star system have an end
of the month reward - Whoever gets the most stars total, and also possibly in individual categories, wins an economic reward say one million dollars -'But seriously how about 1000 dollars' - And who is going to pay for this?

Only those people who make a donation, even a small donation, to ATS will qualify.

So let's say one thousand people donate 10 dollars apiece - that's $10,000 - This would allow for a nice rewards pool
- Plus ATS could make some money as well.

Of course to avoid chicanery - Anyone caught in a scheme to generate stars would be barred from the forum.

Point is that it gives a distorted 'view'
And that it leads to star collection.
Without this star system ATS would do better.

You're right., The 'glitch' only affects those members been around before a certain join date.

Its not a 'bug' , but bugs a lot of new people. "They must be gods..."

Personally I wish I could wipe mine to zero.

I hate the intimidation it presents to people that would otherwise engage in conversation.

Well yeah you nailed it is a form of intimidation. a lot (not all) of those people come over as (uber skeptics knowing it all killing the thread.

Everyone equal and a fresh start would benefit ATS.

The reason that this isn't fixed in years tells me there is something else going on on this site (tin-foil needed but hey this once in a galaxy far away was a conspiracy site).

Monopoly money is good reference , and a policeman to ban people that are naughty.
Any form of a rewardsystem compromises people and benefits site owners.

But eventually it's about conspiracies (or at least it was in the past).

I think it's human ego. Take away the blankie, no more social status of I'm better than you because I have more stars. It only bothers people who have an ego thirst. A bit childish isn't t.

The problem arose with some iteration of the coding for the website.

How's this, whenever you see a gajillion stars, don't listen to anything that person says. I never do.

Members with an excessive amount of stars are usually skeptics.

Actually, they are exclusively members who joined prior to a certain date. This, of course, would depend upon your opinion of what "excessive" means.

If I could have starred that, I would have...a bazillion times

It was a stupid programming glitch that occurred a couple of years ago. It can't be fixed. That's why the star count doesn't matter. If you were a member then it may have effected you. It didn't effect everyone at the time.
