Lol, I was like Whoa! This guy is a perfect poster child for the left. Gay, Atheist, Illegal and "undocumxnted" to boot...

So being a white guy 275 lbs and 6'5" I can't say this guy is very intimidating..... To say the least....

English is my second language. My native language is math, lol.

Why they didn't call the police? It was unexpected. The next protests had heavy police presence.

[Edit] I just thought of something. Perhaps they should have been more cautious due to bad experience with Milo.

Now you're starting to see my concerns. A pattern is developing at Berkeley, and it seems to be being ignored. Combined with statements I have heard from the faculty, it appears to me that the faculty is actively supporting violent protests from one side of the political spectrum.

If that is an incorrect perception, then Berkeley needs to get it in gear and start some PR to combat the perception... I am far from the only one with it. Of course, incompetence can often be confused with impropriety... but neither is a good attribute to have.

It says I am looking at the situation honestly, I think.

And you're stating that I'm being dishonest rather than just having a different opinion on the topic, than you do. Around here we call that being a jack ass.

No. I asked if you would point out that Milo was only joking had he said "let's beat the # out of blacks"

I didn't realize you were still stuck on this. If your scenario showed up as a thread on ATS, first of all it would most likely be posted in defense of Milo anyway so I wouldn't need to defend him and most likely wouldn't even open the thread. I think my answers have conveyed my position well enough but you seem intent on a direct yes or no. Yes I would defend Milo as having made a stupid joke. My post would most likely say, "Can't stand the guy but he was clearly joking."

Your logic is flawed. Stating that my viewpoint is based on honesty does not mean yours is not.

But your suggestion it does, does seems to indicate an openly hostile perspective. Are you always so angry with those who don't agree with you? In the same vein as protesters threatening speakers they do not agree with or destroying campus property?

I'm not angry that anyone disagrees with me. You on the other hand are inventing all kinds of things about me to justify your anger that I see things differently than you do. You're attacking my character, my honesty and my integrity and now to top it off, you're introducing topics that have nothing to do with this guy nor what he tweeted. There's other threads on those topics and I've commented on most of them. If you want to know my position on Antifa Berkeley, try reading one of those threads.

I'm sorry if my response to your words is seen as an 'attack.' I really thought that was how debates worked. You make an argument, I analyze it and point out problems with your argument, then you analyze my words and point out problems with my argument.

If you want to change the rules to where
  • you present an argument, I am required to agree, and you 'win.'
  • you present an argument, I disagree, you call me names and accuse me of attacking you, and you 'win.'

Then, really, I don't think you understand the whole concept.

To recap without the snide remarks, you claim this person's tweet was a 'joke.' I maintain that it is no different than words used by violent racist groups, like the KKK, and therefore should be condemned equally. I also maintain that the fact this person received awards from Berkeley reflects on Berkeley itself, especially in light of recent incidents.

Care to refute any of that, or would you rather accuse me of attacking you again?

Berkeley has a long history only to be "tarnished" by the media. I would think Berkeley would stand on it's own with it's long history. But what do I know? If there's a "pattern" then it would be everywhere and I've yet to see it. I choose to see through the BS and find out the truth.

In one of your replies to me you said:

Therein lies the difference between us: I will hold the same opinion no matter who is the speaker. You will change your opinion based solely on who spoke the words. Around here, we call that 'hypocrisy.'

Not only is that demonstrably untrue it's an ad hominem attack. I never posted an argument on why anyone should take it as a joke. I posted my opinion that it was.

Then, really, I don't think you understand the whole concept.

That's precisely why I find these recent events so troublesome. Berkeley does have a long, rich history. One I do not want to see tarnished.

The more rare the thing, the more precious the thing and the more the thing is to be protected.

Very well... then I ask you to point out one time when a KKK member uttered similar words and you took it as a joke.

If the KKK were some unknown entity with no real known history to speak of you might have a valid point.

I rest my case. Your opinion is dependant on who does a thing, not what they did.

Your logic is broken. I'm not wasting anymore time on you.

You want me to pretend that decades of murder and violence from the KKK don't exist while assuming that some Berkeley twit is a psychopath based on one tweet. I can't do that. If that puts a label on me, I'll muster up a way to go on being smaller in your esteem.

# I'm white and even I think he should start with you. I'd pay good money to watch that. Js.

P.S., you don't have illegal immigrants there but I'd bet you have little else. I prefer culture and difference of opinion in my fish bowl. Sounds like you suffer from a lack of it. Good for you, bad for me. Thus, the intricacies of life, I suppose.
