This 5-minute video was my first experience involving Betsy DeVos, but I haven't read much on her since. Wasn't a good first impression, I'll say that

Let's hope America still educates the disabled.

How would DeVos stop the education of the disabled ?

Old ways need to go...

Teacher's who fail to educate, need to go...

Schools that educate, will flourish as parents choose where they want their children to go..

IT won't happen overnight, but heading in that direction most definitely is a victory for the children's future..

NEA can sue all they want.. their days controlling public education are numbered.

Keep education out of Federal hands... Haven't we learned yet, that everything controlled by DC is a failure and always too expensive..

Let the state's handle it..

1. She's never set foot in a public school - and so.....what?
2. Her confirmation hearing illustrated that she has no clue about current debates in education - What part? All I saw and heard was pontification from Warren and others. Are you referring to the Grizzly comment?
3. The policies she backs have been abysmal for Michigan's education system. - This seems to be opinion again. I look this up and what I find is that the public schools are lacking in meeting educational requirements set forth by the state not Mrs DeVos.In fact, a majority came off the closure list although some were added.

Why I see her as not a poor choice....

1. She is for school choice
2. She is for school accountability
3. She has been involved for decades in helping schools

Why would we not want someone who wants to help schools?

From what I have seen so far the educational dept is in dire need of a good strong shake up. The tremendous amount of money funneled through reaches less to the class rooms as control of lives gets stronger. I agree with you and can only hope that big changes will come to the educational future of American children and youth. The dumbing down and gold lined pockets must end or we are toast.

God forbid kids get smarter over the next four years.

Heavy gnashing of teeth cries lawsuits incoming, it has nothing to do with the children's education...

It has everything to do with taking away the progressive's monopoly on producing the next gen of progressives...

It will be a refreshing feeling seeing education of the children return to reading, writing & arithmetic..

The College bound will have enough exposure to the poison of the progressive left, at least this way, the kids will be able to make their own mind up on whether to follow that tripe...

YMMV

Can any of the detractors name 3 things about her that would NOT make her a good Sec of Education?

PS from a conspiracy sense I am surprised no one bring up her brother.....

I've personally experienced and then watched as her family and their ilk destroyed and profitted off the children in michigan. For the record I went to grade school when they opened the edison project as this new school idea back in the mid 90s. They sold the concept to poor families offering a free computer, (which were little more than a typewriter with a screen at the time) in the home. The difference in education was negligible compared to traditional, the teachers were vastly underpaid which hurt the local economy and they spent government money to buy their books and supplies from sister companies at marked up prices. Plus, there is no school board for charters, so the community has very little say in the education process.

Two of your "qualifications" are simply her positions. The third is very opinion based. There are plenty of people that would argue she hasn't done anything to help schools.

It seems like you're grasping at straws.

True. The video is not a good look. It is mainly this:

Warren: Do you have any experience in education?

DeVos: No.

Warren: Do you know any of the rules and regulations in place?

DeVos: No.

Public schools already sucks.
Can't see how she will change that for the better or worse.

The "integrity of our children's education" is what pushed my wife and I to homeschool our "special needs" son (ASD, ADHD...both diagnosed by a psychologist), and we have been doing so for the past five years because the public education system can't get their collective s**t together on how to teach for the student and not for the test.

If you really are saying that the school system in America right now--the same one that ranks average or below in the "three Rs"--can't stand some reform and to be shaken up a bit, then you're willfully ignorant on the topic.

Well, either that, or you're ideologically driven on the topic. Either way, SOME of the things that Devos wants to do with the system should make our public education better, but like with many things in government, we'll never know until things are implemented and then the effects are measured years later. All of these doomsday prophecies and appeals to emotion thrown out by you and others on the topic have zero foundation in reality, and certainly the claim about the "integrity of our children's education" being in jeopardy is chuckle-worthy.

Things just got turned up a notch.

Yep.

In today's episode of "At least it can't get any worse... or can it?", we discover that, not only will our children not have medical care but they'll also have no education in their future! Tune in tomorrow when the Mad King Trump begins to set fire to random low-income houses.

I don't get how anyone can be happy about this. The president, who promised to get rid of lobbyists and special interest groups, just appointed a lobbyist as head of education. So "pay to play" is ok now?

Seriously, this is getting ridiculous. Trump is surrounding himself with billionaires that have nothing in common with the average american worker, and his fans are happy about this?
