Secondary diagnosis lead more often to early death than Downs itself.

The statistics regarding early death for those with Down syndrome are changing.

It is not unreasonable for them to live well into their 5th and even 6th decade which is a life expectancy for a whole lot of folks not with a disability so, that is an outdated statement.

I always like to do a little exercise with absurdly emotional topics like this one, let's do a pole swap.

Suppose this was a commercial promoting abortions for women worried about what conditions they would bring the child into, how would you feel?

If the state censored that measage as well, how would you feel?


If the state stayed the # out of it, how would you feel? I'd feel pretty damn good.

Some Down's syndrome adults have jobs that bring them a sense of fulfillment, even if it is seemingly unimportant work to you.

That's admirable and the world needs more responsible young people, in my opinion.

You're young and I have no idea where in the world you live but, I hope someday your thoughts can change to become more tolerant and compassionate and understanding.

Once someone is here on this earth, I am of the belief that we are to do whatever we can to strive for them to have the same chances as everyone else, the same risks and the same rewards.

You will change your attitude somewhat in time as you grow and develop. Your pre-frontal cortex has not fully developed most likely since you are probably in your late teens or early twenties (an assumption since you're still working on your Bachelor's).

Life's experiences and interactions with others who have mental and physical challenges help us develop beyond just the physical and present opportunities to grow beyond a world of fantastical ideas. In other words, reality will hit you when you least expect it and open your heart and mind.

But seriously I respect you have an opinion and you are entitled to share it on ATS, even if I do not agree with it.

My opinion is, if we removed all those humans on this earth devoid of empathy, understanding, tenderness, kindness, tolerance, consideration, decency and love we would be living in a much better world.


If someone terminates an unborn child I respect their right to that decision even if I do not always agree with it. I also respect France's decision to not air this commercial even though I do not agree with it.
While the commercial could upset people who decided to terminate a pregnancy based on medical advice that is not alway 100% infallible it could also offer hope and reassurance to other people who do have a child with a disability.
