If Ellison is chosen to lead the DNC, what's the problem? His political views, organizational skills, and ability to reconcile the left wing's divisions are what should matter here.

Ironically, the US Constitution even bans religious tests for federal positions (Article VI, Clause 3). So when combined with the First Amendment's "freedom of religion" clause, it appears that the US Constitution is supportive of this move as well. It's funny how people claim to love the Constitution but don't even know what's in it. (ETA: Forgot a link so HERE)

Article VI

All debts contracted and engagements entered into, before the adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.

This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

Though for the record, you seem to be misunderstanding something about the left wing. We understand and accept something called "the freedom of religion". I'm not an atheist nor a Christian nor a Jew nor a Hindu, but I accept that people have the right to choose those paths. And that's how they feel about me. And one of the Qur'an's 114 Surahs/Revelations is dedicated to the same ideal, literally commanding Muslims to say "unto you your beliefs/religion and unto me my beliefs/religion".

Qur'an Surah 109, Al Kafiroon (The Disbelievers), Pickthall translation:

1. Say: O disbelievers!
2. I worship not that which ye worship;
3. Nor worship ye that which I worship.
4. And I shall not worship that which ye worship.
5. Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
6. Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion.

Seeing as that's the entire Surah/Revelation, there's no further context for it. So any Muslim who doesn't follow this ideal is doing so in spite of Islam, not because of it.

We don't even know if this is true, for what I see, I don't think that in the precarious situation the democrats find themselves now that actually they never liked Hillary as their candidate over Sanders they will do such an idiotic thing, as Choosing somebody to run their base camp with a religion that do not represent Americas and knowing that America is not and Islamic nation and never will be.

Actually make no sense, I think CNN is lying as usual.

No, I've seen that rumor from other places than just CNN. That doesn't mean it will happen, of course.

Yea, it may be an outright lie. Where it is I see a problem is in people throwing logic to the wind, and just outright assuming things are true none the less.

Still, whether this particular story is true or false, is irrelevant. The fact that people use an idol, a deity to form policy is completely true and it goes against any type of logic.

Question: What do you believe here given what we know about the PC/"diversity" minded orientation of the left? If Ellison is selected, is it because he's actually the best one or because he has some skills AND checks off critical demographic/diversity boxes?

Wikileaks exposed that Brazile wasn't actually running anything.

If he was the right guy for the JOB why would they feel the need to even discuss his religion? Does it qualify him for it?

I think it's irrelevant what his religion is but bringing it up only serves to highlight that they are using it for a purpose.

CNN like most Western news outlets lie.

If you want Truth, well.... That's a bit tougher.

I seriously have no #ing idea why the minority believes it can rule the majority, why people come to our #ing country and think they can change the way we think and culturally act. The progressives have sold out America and in doing so they have lost in an overwhelming defeat, so the proverbial question becomes," now what". Do we return to be the Americans who take care of our own, protect our own liberties and beliefs, while the rest of the world #ing hates and crys? or do we continue to sell our country out to #ing people who hate us and would stomp on our founding documents given the chance. For christs #ing sakes CNN is asking," should the electoral college be abolished". This # is called treason, and in every nation it's a capital crime..

I does matter when in our nation political candidate make a big issue when it comes to religion, America we like or not and something I disagree with, as I do not subscribe to religious affiliations, put religion over everything, this happen when we have a big fundamentalist movement that is more powerful that people think and has been for a long time and nowhere to give away in a religious pursue of that power.

Not only do they think the minority should rule, but then they put in a direct contradiction by then demanding that the EC (which is designed to partially protect minorities) be abolished to allow tyranny of the majority.

I know it's hard for some to comprehend how that works, but it does take some deeper thought and I wouldn't expect the infotwits at CNN to get it, not when it doesn't directly benefit what they want at the moment.

Imagine (and I thought this was a real possibility) that the situation was reversed - Hillary EC win and Trump popular victory. Do you imagine they'd be calling for the abolition of the EC today? Nah, their viewers would be getting a primer on why it exists and its virtues!

The only reason I can think of is, because if they are legalized citizens, then the likely answer is because it's their country too?

No one culture has the right to change the way any other acts or thinks...in fact I doubt anyone could...but they certainly have 100% the same rights that you do if theyre legal.

The issue is the virtue signalling.

It isn't a selling point to advertise someone's Judaism or Christianity, but for some reason, Ellison's faith is a selling point. Why might that be?

Wikileaks exposed that Brazile wasn't actually running anything.

Representative Ellison openly supported Bernie during the primaries and has a lot of support from the actual Left wing. And seeing as the main choices for the DNC's head position are him and the Democratic establishment's Howard Dean, it's pretty obvious why they're looking more at Ellison. (Though I personally hope he and Dean work together on a new "50 State Strategy".)

Being PC has nothing to do with it. The DNC needs to regain its credibility with the left wing and reconcile with the Bernie supporters who left the party. But since the right wing doesn't actually follow left wing politics or our internal motives, you instantly concluded it had something to do with being PC/diversity, etc.

For a group of people that likes to talk about the Constitution and it's principles, you sure don't know much about it and don't understand how it should be applied.

It should not matter what someone's religion is, unless you want to create biased opinions because of it.
