This will be interesting.

A lack of evidence that Ukraine did it does not automatically make Russia guilty by default.

I personally believe it's highly likely Russia provided the BUK platform but suspicion is never enough to win a court case.

And even if they did provide it, was it the Russians, or Ukrainian rebels who fired it?

Putin will bury this just like the USA did when it shot down a passenger jet from Iran air in 1988.

Have you all forgotten the black boxes back up the story about russian SAMs? The investigation proved they were russian supplied missiles. ANd this was done by a third party who had no skin in the game.

Also that Iranian aircraft IFF was squawking F-14 and they were armed with anti ship missiles back then. Yhe Iranians intentionally sacrificed a airliner to try and get the US out of the area.

ALso.. the bodies immediatly recovered after smelled of decay. that dont happen to frsehly killed dead bodies. They were dead before the shoot down. I t also explains why the pilots didnt respond.

It was never confirmed that it was a set up, but when images of the crash were released the bodies appeared to be nude and bloated already, even though there were crews on scene not long after it was shot down.

So then what do you make of that, Zaphod?

I'm still torn on whether it was a setup. It would make sense for them to, but at the same time, the Vincennes did screw up with how they handled it.

I think trolls should be sued.

The only TWO countries that's the topic here is the UKRAINE and Russia.

And airliner's weren't getting blow out of the sky until AFTER Russia invaded.

But I mean, logistically how could they have pulled off a setup? AKA how could the passengers have been killed after take off but before it was shot out of the sky?

It just doesn't seem feasible.

The best theory I heard of a setup was that they put already dead bodies on board, with a crew willing to sacrifice themselves for the government. That is why they were all naked, and already bloating. Interestingly, despite it being shot down a number of bodies were found completely intact.

Uh yea, that still seems astronomically possible considering that one of the passengers even photographed the plane right before he boarded.

I don't understand how they all could have been killed and declothed mid flight. It seems highly unlikely and especially considering all the evidence that points to it being shot down by surface-to-air missiles.

But that's still an angle I have not considered so props for posting it. Thanks!

There was never a question that it was shot down, the question was whether it deliberately flew a path that made it appear to be an F-14 out of Bandar Abbas to force a shoot down, and loaded with dead bodies to limit the actual loss of life, or if it was a normal commercial flight and the crew of the cruiser screwed up and shot down.

Again, I appreciate your sentiment to show all sides of this story. It's definitely an interesting take on things.

But I just can't wrap my head around that one. It's too tin foil for my liking. Maybe that's my bias showing.

And that's coming from somebody that posts on ATS
.

Families of victims of downed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 are suing Russia and its President Vladimir Putin in the European Court of Human Rights.

MH17 crash: Victims' families sue Putin and Russia

Good. Maybe this will finally be the beginning of a long road to justice.

The jet was shot down by a Russian-made missile over eastern Ukraine in 2014, killing all 298 on board.
The West and Ukraine say Russian-backed rebels were responsible but Russia accuses Ukrainian forces.

The families' claim is based on the violation of a passenger's right to life, News.com.au reported.
The claim is for 10 million Australian dollars ($7.2m; £4.9m) for each victim, and the lawsuit names both the Russian state and its president as respondents.

Jerry Skinner, a US-based aviation lawyer leading the case, told News.com.au it was difficult for the families to live with, knowing it was "a crime".

"The Russians don't have any facts for blaming Ukraine, We have facts, photographs, memorandums, tonnes of stuff."
Mr Skinner said they were waiting to hear from the ECHR whether the case had been accepted.

Financial compensation for the families of the victims is definitely a good start. But truthfully, I don't think justice can be fully served until someone goes on trial and subsequently gets convicted (we know that won't be Putin).

There are 33 next-of-kin named in the application, the Sydney Morning Herald reported - eight from Australia, one from New Zealand with the rest from Malaysia.

Sydney-based law firm LHD Lawyers is filing the case on behalf of their families.
Flight MH17 crashed at the height of the conflict between Ukrainian government troops and pro-Russian separatists.

A Dutch report last year concluded it was downed by a Russian-made Buk missile, but did not say who fired it.
Most of the victims were Dutch and a separate criminal investigation is still under way.

According to Paul Craig Roberts the US used its power to have the analysis of the back boxes taken off international analysis/investigation body and given to the Dutch for no other reason than more of their citizens were killed and from any other country.

How is this a valid reason for corrupting the integrity of long established procedures and conventions?

According to Paul Craig Roberts

Yes, but Paul Craig Roberts does not seem to read the facts. The black boxes were analysed in the context of the crash investigation. The investigation was taken over by the Dutch because Ukraine could not do it. Apart from possibly being responsible at the time, Ukraine was involved in fighting Russian backed separatists.

The Dutch Safety Board took over formal responsibility for the air crash investigation from Ukraine yesterday evening (July 22). The two black boxes have since arrived in the United Kingdom, where they are currently being read out and analyzed by a team of international specialists.

Yep the US buried that by paying compensation to those families in a settlement...not exactly how you bury something.

If Putin wants to bury that way then great because that is what this suit is looking for.

Paul Craig Roberts knows less about this than you do.

But feel free to use him as a source...it's fun reading his bufoonery.

Yet the facts of Flight 655 are pretty well known and the incident was not buried. The compensation offered Iran came out of a case being brought by Iran at the International Court of Justice. Additionally, the US demonstrated regret and contrition, although politics on both sides prevented real openness.

Russia's position on MH17 is has none of the above. All Russia has done is muddy the water with false stories, distraction, propaganda and a refusal to help.

That's one of the problems that I always had with it. Like I said it makes sense for them to pull something like that, but the problem was always what if they didn't shoot? Suddenly you have a plane pulling up to the gate at their destination full of dead bodies, unless it suddenly had an "emergency" and had to turn around.

That would have been interesting to have a plane full of dead bodies pull up to a gate.

The story of how it happened would be even more interesting.
