Yeah well, I'm not one who generally gets banned in the first place and if I do, then it's not worth my time to go back. I'd only likely get banned again. I'm not going to shift my views or behavior to please others.

But as I said, I'm not going to go out of my way to get banned. If I felt like it was that kind of place, I wouldn't sign up.

Not into places like Kos or Democractic Underground.

And there an awful lot of folks who seem to think that anyone who has a problem with the alarming number of able-bodied people on welfare is instead saying that

all blacks are lazy, welfare-hogging thugs
. Or that anyone who is critical of way gays and transgenders seem to think that instead of tolerance, they are entitled to full-blown societal acceptance and approval of everything they do or

you are trashing gays and transgender people, claiming they are sick freaks who need to go away
. Or that any who sees a pattern between most of the violent terrorism in the world and the Muslim religion and simply point this out means we think

all Muslims are evil and need to be destroyed
.

Those examples of the extreme hyperbole and over the top rhetoric employed to attempt to delegitimize and demonize all opposition to your own points of view are part of the problem.

You're right about that. It's quite eery to think of what goes on in people's heads when they hear certain things and automatically jump to conclusions like these.

There was a post recently by someone who said the problem he had with "these people" (transgender females) was that they were scumbags who frequented bars and tried to trick straight men to go home with them, and that they all strip in strip clubs. It's hyperbole all right, but it's not my hyperbole - he actually wrote that!

I have also read many posts on the internet by people wanting to get rid of all Muslims. Not just the terrorists.

I can respectfully debate with people I don't agree with, but when people post such hateful rhetoric.... well, I'm gonna give as good as I get in that respect.

Awesome, I support you doing that even with internet access though.

I treat everyone on the internet like if they are just bots with programmed responses and fluid language algorithms. Therefore, none of it is real and will never bother me. But, ATS is very much an eggshells place when controversial social issues are a concern. I recommend venting in some of those random .chan forums or liveleak if you need to be absolutely disgusting and disrespectful though.

That's kind'a sad ... if it's really the way it is. From what I understand, the mods thoroughly discuss actions affecting members for any given duration. I wouldn't run around smurfin' with the owners anymore than I'd come to someone's house and crap on the front porch. That said, I'd only have to be asked to leave to ban myself from the site.

It's personality. I love the people who are unafraid to express theirs ... regardless of which side of the argument they're on.

which to me is the truth and facts of reality based on experience, that I'll often get verbally attacked with nonsense and banned.

You're not beholden to your own truth or facts of reality...Maybe that's why you get banned.

does anyone else feel like they're walking on eggshells while online?

Nope. Not at all. I say what I have to say and am happy to let others say what they have to say.

It seems to me that I would only feel like I'm "walking on eggshells" if I don't want to own what I say/think and/or don't want to give others the same respect and courtesy to have their say/thoughts. I sure don't expect any forum or venue to cater to my thoughts, opinions and words. Others get to have their thoughts, opinions and words too. Some expressed nicer than others of course. Can't worry bout that. I can only worry about myself.

I've been discussing a very controversial issue most of the day with another poster with very different opinions and conclusions.... neither of us have been rude or nasty or snarky... and I'm pretty sure neither of us have felt like we were walking on eggshells. (though I can only speak for myself!) Sometimes -- many times -- it's more about how we express ourselves than what we are expressing.

Sometimes it's just not worth it. There are some very stupid, ignorant and downright oppositional people on the internet.

Even here on ATS, one of the more civilized places on the web, you can still expect the usual parade of hateful buffoons disagreeing with you and spinning their own rabid, deluded versions of reality if you offer any opinion that conflicts with theirs too drastically. It really is like walking on eggshells trying not to set them off.

Shame. A few years back it didn't use to be like this here. Too many moronic ignoramuses that think they know it all plus a handful of folk that seem to be genuinely mentally disturbed. Sometimes you want to say something in a thread but you know it will trigger these idiots. So, in the interest of not spoiling your day you just shake your head and say nothing.

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one.

Religious people especially piss me off. I try not to read any of those threads because I just find the amazing stupidity rage inducing sometimes.

Im good. I mean, I have made it to a blockbot on twitter because I have been deemed "problematic" by not being offended at my own genitals or something, who knows..but I am kinda glad for that..occasionally I see some of the most outlandish and absurd tweets and look at the account at just what level of fool could be saying such nonsense to find I am preblocked..

so, naa, the fragile people are actually just blocking themselves into a tiny little safespace of pure thought.

But
I am not racist, actually sexist, or homophobic, so I tend to not get like banned from places or anything...jokes and fun aside, there are some people genuinely horrible and they tend to break codes of conduct that any business wouldn't want around, and online isn't some park where everyone can go by right..its a bunch of businesses offering a place to hang out. If you become more of a disturbance than a contributor, a business will do what it will do..but you also have to be pretty off the rails and clearly racist/sexist/homophobic beyond parody. I mean, the KKK does fine online.

Personal blocks..meh, if people dont like who you are or what you say, they dont have to listen to you...and you dont have to listen to them. I am opposed to blocking because its important to at least hear what others are saying..sometimes its valueable, sometimes not, but always good to know all sides of a discussion, debate, or view..if only to know how to debate against it should it come up down the line

It's hyperbole all right, but it's not my hyperbole - he actually wrote that!

The "sickening part" is that most of these folks (transgenders) are forced to work in the Sex Trade because uptight A-Holes are always at odds with their own sexuality and because the transgender is usually in the minority, they find a 'common enemy" and 'Righteous Turd' gets an angry mob to agree. Then of course, they'll either go home and get on Wanktube and 'knock one off' via Cialis™ or Viagra™ and then go to the Strip Bar and 'fall for it...again...' feel guilty on Sunday at 'The Pew' then the self-loathing cooks and cooks ...

The only issue I have is the press that Caitlyn Jenner received and then the awards for "Woman of The Year" and She hadn't been a Female for a year... ANY single Mother is MORE deserving, ANY Female that had to actually "struggle and overcome" when it was a natural struggle i.e. Male skips out on Mother and She has to work 2 crappy jobs to feed Her kids, while Caitlyn has a hilltop mansion to look down on others... Now She has "thinkers"...

I think I read that thread and bit My 2 index fingers (typers) on that one but revealed My thoughts earlier on the thread that She may be having second thoughts...

Oh and I'm hoping 'some folks' get a working knowledge of what "persecution" really means.. Sometimes I think folks think this word means something else...

Yes you do lol. I bet some of the stuff you don't post is hilarious too.

Get in a PM exchange with me when I am on a roll and I am sure you will come away the worse for it mentally.

Having a "safe word" is not fair if you make me wear a ball-gag.

Actually, the Internet was always progressive. That part is obvious because it was built by smart people who don't hate science.

I really don't see where all this walking on eggshells actually occurs. Certainly not on ATS. I think a certain group of people are obsessed with whining about what they can't talk about when in actuality, there's nothing stopping them except the amount of time they spend whining.

Front page of ATS:

Muhamed was a child molester.
Leftists and Democrats Opposing America. Mexican Flag Waving & Vicente's Middle FInger.
Teacher To Be Prosecuted For Calling Mohammed Child Molester
Police in Vienna Tell Woman: Dye Your Blond Hair Dark
Former Facebook Workers: We Routinely Suppressed Conservative News
What I have learned from the social justice movement

Hey You! With the face! You don't agree with me politically!?
Rapper Azealia Banks Endorses Trump – Says Hillary Talks to Black People “Like We’re Pets

Not one topic on the front page about how unpatriotic and evil conservatives are or how they want to destroy America. No bashing of Christians/Christianity. No topics about how racist white people are. Surprisingly there are two topics (not in the list) about Clinton's emails. Even this rant is the same rant we've all read 100x already this year.

If anyone is feeling particularly bullied, PM me and I'll swoop in all SJW-like and form a safe space for you to cry in.

I like to feel that I am smashing eggshells that are long overdue for a good smashing with some reply's. Learning is a never ending process in such a complex world. Don't be too afraid to smash some of your own egg shells at times.
