This is in response to the thread putting ATSs revenue at $463,680 and value at 2.1 million . I was a little surprised that no one went looking for themselves . The website below shows their revenue to be $147,294 . I calculated the worth at the same rate as the original thread which was 4.2 dollars for every dollar of revinue and came up with $665,768 .
www.freewebsitereport.org...

So i guess i am saying who ya gunna believe . Another site (which i could not find the link) hypestat has their revenue at $159,924 per year an company worth at @1,308,661 which was at the rate of $8.18 revenue to worth .
The revenue of the 2 sites i found were very similar although company worth was quite different from both sites .

So who is right , who is wrong . If you look long enough on the net you are going to find something that suits your agenda .
My two cents on the matter . ATSs revenue in none of my business . What they done with the money i donated , well thats another matter but it was a donation , it wasn't a share buy . As for adds , well i dont get any as i passed some magical mark on (posts flags threads) at which time they disappear .Most of the posters commenting negatively seem like they would be in the same boat so what is up with that . Anyways just my two cents as i have said . I am just trying to bring some balance .

I HIGHLY doubt that ATS revenue is actually that low. I just looked it up on two sites and they came back with $90k. Honestly doesn't seem at all worth it. What is that, $30k a year per owner?

No, you should try mixing some wine with vodka and juice though. I call it my BAN juice.

Well, it was stated in one of those ad threads that three people work full time making ATS what it is. And they live and work in New York City. So think for a second how much revenue that would take in addition to keeping the site itself running.

More information is always good, so i thank you for making this thread in response to mine.

That said, this thread misses the main point of mine, and that was urging Skeptic Overlord to provide more clarity on the problems facing ATS and how the staff plan to use donated money - so as to better inform members willing to financially support the website.

The estimates given in my thread aren't entirely accurate, and neither are yours. It's impossible for these sources to be truly correct. If anything, they show the ballpark ATS is playing in.

I never expected the staff to publish complete financial details of ATS, but many must have missed that point i made. I only wanted more transparency.

I'm honestly not trying to ruffle anyone's feathers, but why does any of this matter?.. Most, if not all, websites worth visiting have adds.. Is it really that big of a deal?...

Let's say, hypothetically, that the owner of the site wanted to generate some extra income... Is it wrong for him to encourage us frequent visitors to open our wallets a bit to contribute?... I don't think so.. Hosting costs aside, it takes a lot of human hours to keep this sight moving as fluidly as it does..

Let's just say that 6 people had to quit their jobs to dedicate 10 hrs a day to moderating/running this sight.. How much profit do you think the sight is making after paying those individuals a modest salary?.. Cmooooon...Personally, I haven't donated a dime yet.. Doesn't seem like anybody is forcing my hand in terms of funding though, unlike the other conspiracy website that I used to frequent, that'll ban you for being an active member who doesn't donate...

Who cares how much this sight is worth?..Maybe it's a few hundred thousand, maybe it's a couple million... The question is, what is this sight worth to YOU?. I feel that there should be an option to donate as little as a dollar.. Regardless wether or not I become a "junior conspirator", I'd like to donate on my terms.. Other than that... Well... It's Saturday and I'm halfway drunk

the real question is has ATS pledged not to run independent third party Ads and only run the proverbial mainstream Ads ...

So this gets kinda complicated. Frequent visitors and posters are what makes ATS financially viable. If ATS was generating the content, that might be different.

I keep forgetting, and I think a lot of other folks keep forgetting, that SO was proposing that people using adblocker can pay a bit more if the ads bug them that much. That's actually fine with me. The ads are paying for you to be here for free.

I kept turning it into ATS is going to run ads AND charge. That's not the case. I'm fine with paying a MODEST subscription fee to avoid ads. I don't even mind getting a few ads even though my participation level makes me ad free (I don't know if I think that's fair, I'm not a great contributor, I just post a lot).

I crapped my pants and got pissed after drinking a few too many Domotinis and forgetting basically NOTHING would change, just that people who weren't viewing ads were being held accountable, and that they had an option to not view the ads with a subscription.

You don't get things for free. I always want to rail against authority figures, but that's not what I was doing. I was mad at someone providing a service because they didn't want to give it for free. That's BS. I kept thinking that SO wanted to charge me AND make me see ads, not at all true. He was offering those of us who hate ads and use adblocker a way to contribute. It was actually really nice of him. So choose your poison, ads or subscription. YOU make the choice.

I grew up, thanks for helping keep us honest.

For mine the only thing that needs transparency is the donations . The rest is really none of our business .

Very well said.. I'd say that response was more worthy of its own thread than the one I just posted... You should copy/paste this to my latest thread..

Just this little bit to say as I have followed some of these threads.

I have not donated. Honestly as long as I am logged in, these adds are so minimal imo, I have no idea why anyone is complaining.

If you need to re login, then they are obnoxious.

ATS seems extremely passive ad wise compared to many sites

I will NOT subject myself to the indignity, the abuse and insult of deliberately allowing commercial advertising into my life.
There is much that i cannot control, but I'll be damned if I am just going to drop trou and bend over because some forum owners want more money!
I pay my way with my predominately original content that, once posted, becomes WHO'S property?
There are MANY forums on the net.
I see nothing here to inspire financial support along with my materiel support!
One reason that I enjoy it here is the complete lack of advertising!
No, blasting me in the face with some fool ad is NOT going to make my eyes glaze and drool flow while I head for my wallet!
Ever!
As the site stands now, it's not the best nor the worst.
If it becomes a minefield of advertisements, or bullying, I'll take my content elsewhere.

One thing that my parents neglected to teach me;
"We teach people how to treat us!"

If you're immune the effects of ads why rail against them as some big indignity. I don't even notice them, they never register on my radar. If you find it an indignity that seems to imply it has some impact on you. As far as I'm concerned ads only really have an effect on the most unintelligent members of society, do you really want to be the lowest common denominator?
