The World Health Organisation has declared a public health emergency due to the suspected link of the Zika virus to a surge in serious birth defects in South America.
The designation was recommended by a committee of independent experts, and should help fast-track international action and research priorities.
WHO chief Margaret Chan said the link between the Zika virus and microcephaly was “strongly suspected but not yet scientifically proven.”
The Zika virus outbreak currently gripping the Americas could have been sparked by the release of genetically modified mosquitoes in 2012, critics say.
The insects were engineered by biotechnology experts to combat the spread of dengue fever and other diseases and released into the general population of Brazil in 2012.

No we don't. If Pharma can't make money off of a worldwide medical issue , they won't even put on a lab coat and dig in to find a cure. Such was the case 4 years ago when the WHO announced a need for Vitamin A as hundreds of thousands in 3rd world countries and yes, even here in the USA, were going blind due to lack of Vitamin A.
Nothing was done.

Unfortunately, I am unable to absorb Vitamin A and have to take injections in the hip. I am allergic to the synthetic Vit. A and the real stuff is hard to come by.
I get nightblind.
