Lotto is a tax on the poor and stupid. I'm often amazed at how many people who barely have a pot to piss in can always find money to play lotto every week. Of course, these are the same people who claim they have no money to invest in their own retirement, pay for health insurance, etc.

With that said, you do have to pay to play. I always buy a ticket or two when the jackpots get this big.

I was suckered in for $9 and didn't even hit 1 number. I never play the lottery, but some guy at the grocery store mentions the jackpot so after passing the service desk and noticing there wasn't a line, I caved in and bought 3 tickets.

Believe me, if I win, I will spread the wealth. That would be the best thing about winning. I could help so many people.

Yep. I had mine. I get paid Friday, so I'll probably spring for another ticket for Saturday.

I've already started shopping islands for sale in the Bahamas.

Which is why a large number of lotto winners end up broke after a few years. Same with athletes or anyone who comes into a large amount of money and no education on how to manage it.

I do this several times a year whilst traveling back and forth - It is pretty kewl when you mail the winners in and you get a nice little check from a few states away

At one time I had 14 total checks from various states on my office wall.

That is why I never usually enter but this kind of money in the UK is enough to live out my days and also do a lot of good.

We have an office pool We won $4!

True story. When I was a teen, the Florida lotto hit $100 million. I grew up in GA and we didn't have the lotto yet at that time. Some how my parents knew someone who bought them tickets in FL. Anyway, when they announced the winning numbers, I hear my mom yelling at the top of her lungs. I kid you not, she got 5 out of the 6 numbers. The sixth number was off by like 2 digits!

My parents immediately packed up the car and drove to FL so they could claim their winnings. The thing is they didn't know how much they won as it is based on number of winners, total jackpot, etc.

Anyway, so many people played, like 7 or 8 people hit the full jack pot. I don't know how many got the 5 out of 6 like my parents, but they won about $15k. I thought it would have been more, but it was enough to pay off some credit cards.

I spent that entire night looking at Car & Driver fantasizing about the Porsche I was going to get myself when I turned 16. LOL.

No way. I would definitely be putting away plenty for my family to live comfortably for a long, long time. The rest I would use to help out family and friends. Pay off mortgages, pay for college, starting small businesses, etc.

WeR!!!! Bwhaaa haaaaaa haaaaaaa - you NEVER know, it could happen. On another note; I totally believe that all the hundreds Ive spent over the years is a worthwhile investment and here is why I say that.

EVEN when I check my numbers the day of (I never really expect to win due to the %'s) the drawing and I dont win anything.... the time leading up to that drawing is spent thinking about how I could share the love and what beach to move to
Really the thought process in my mind is just uncontrollable... So, I play, toss a few greenbacks here and there...

My #1 rule though (and I do not gamble although there are casinos ALL over in my neck of the woods) 'Do NOT spend what I cant just throw out my window' - that way rest assured, I am not contributing my mortgage or school supplies to fund that darn money pit

I hear you. We all fantasize about what we would do with the money. However, a lot of people say that and still wind up broke. You start getting cousins, uncles, and other family members coming out the wood work. Friends you haven't spoken to in 20 years will be at your door step. Everyone is going to have some sure fire business idea they want you to put a few million for. Charities.

This jackpot is a lot of money for sure and you'd have to be a first class dumbass to blow it all, but it happens. There are several athletes who've made like $100 million over the course of their careers and are broke. Same with actors. Most will tell you it was from bad business investments, living too large, and trying to take care of too many people. Just ask MC Hammer.

We usually don't buy tickets, but when the pot is half a billion dollars, (more now) we just had to buy a few tickets...we had 2 numbers match on one ticket

I am sure we will buy a couple more tickets before Saturday!

Yeah, ashamed to say we did, and we re-upped our numbers for Saturday. Although hubby says there are 2 $50K winners and one $150K winner out there ... Maybe lightning will strike when he stops to reset the ticket tonight?

Just even the smaller jackpots would be a big change for the better.

We spent $4 on 2 QPs, and hit the PB number. Rolled the $4 back in to another 2 QP draws, we'll see how it goes. We'd be thrilled to hit the jackpot (lol, who wouldn't?) but we'd be equally happy for a few hundred or a few grand to just pay off remaining medical debts.

I'm going to wait until it's a billion or better. After taxes, even 700 million wouldn't be enough to retire on.

Just remember, you have better chance of crashing in a jumbo jet and getting struck by lightning while getting eaten by sharks ...
