Interesting confluence of events tonight in southern Cal.; unscheduled missile tests, LAX traffic redirected at night by military and Taurid meteor showers.

I posted my picture on page 2 and I was facing south the cloud and blue streak was due west. I missed the actual event just saw the aftermath so I'm not sure which way it was going either east or west.

I don't think it's too late for the OP to edit the title of the thread to:

Missile launch spawns Obergian "UFO" Event in the sky above LA

Just to throw in a bit of nuttiness...
Anyone notice the official USAF Instagram page posted a photo just 13 minutes ago regarding aircraft nose art
Probably nothing...
Or.. It could be EVERYTHING...
But it's probably nothing

Any unusual NOTAMS or the marine equivalent pop up in a short time frame before the event?

No scheduled launches from Vandenberg, pretty much leaves a naval launch. The question now is what type of missile and what launch platform.

That blue flame is interesting, it looks more like a plasma engine as opposed to a rocket engine.

Rocket exhaust becomes plasma when exposed to sunlight. It also lights up by simple reflection.

Interesting, I will have to go back and look at basic rocket science. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder why they would launch from sea yet send over California without notice. That seems peculiar to me unless something in the mission required it go over California for some purpose rather than out to sea or one of the regular test sites.

It isn't November 15th, is it?

There's sort of an ongoing NOTAM for that sort of stuff in the area. This came up with the contrail/missile event a few years back.

How do you know it went "over" California?

"It was a missile launch"
Remeber what they did in Pheonix after the pheonix lights? They launched flairs and said "It was flairs"

Not saying this wasnt a missile launch, but I wouldn't believe the OS without some good evidence.

How about the fact that it looks exactly like a missile launch?

So wait....you're telling me this was just a routine missile launch and not a big payload of those dirtynogood scoundrels (you know the ones) hightailing it offworld via military escort to seek easier hunting grounds for their really bad reality television programs alongside their talentless trashy pop icons they keep forcing on the decent citizens of planet earth?

Well crap.
Now I'm bummed out.

(Just razzin'.)

That was a heck of a launch though.
Seriously impressive.

OK guys I want to chime in because I happened to be tracking the object for about 15 seconds before it exploded. Here's the whole story:

The night sky is very clear above my house in Rancho Cucamonga and I've often seen satellites overhead. However last night I saw 4 lights in a diamond formation flying low above my house as I was stepping out. I could faintly hear them and we're obviously helicopters. I even took a video of them.

So tonight as I'm coming home I am kinda on the lookout for strange things again and as soon as I stepped out of my van I noticed a bright white light tracking across the western horizon. It had a white beam coming from it and at first I thought it was another helicopter with a search light. Just as the beam seemed to become more focused the orb exploded. It was absolutely beautiful and amazing. The haze kept expanding and the orb looked to "skip" across the atmosphere creating a 2nd explosion. I got some video of this as well.

Then my sister calls me concerned and tells me about LAX being shut down and I knew it was a missile drill of some sort. In my opinion it looked as if a missile or projectile was shot down. I suspect it was actually a test of our ballistic missile shield and the beam was the laser interacting with the atmosphere. The blue streak everyone can see is what's left of that beam.

Well I wasn't there so I can't give you a first hand account, but based on some of the videos it appears and is stated by people who saw it stated it went 'overhead'. That to me implies over top of them and I can only assume they were on land making these statements, but I'll admit they might have been on their boat.

These sightings of failed missile launches all look the same are seen by 1000's of people. Why are they not testing this in isolated areas??? What is the deal with a failed missile launch, how was it supposed to succeed??? As far as I know missiles do one thing and that is to blow things up.

Why do you say it was a failed test?
The ocean, in general, is quite isolated.

Most likely an SM-3 test.
