Arrogance of Humans

So, the other day, I was having a

philosophical discussion with a

gentleman about evolution and creation

and he made a comment to me about

how animals don't have the same

thoughts as humans. I asked him how

can he be sure they don't?

Are we certain that other species don't

have the same thoughts about life as we

do? I mean have you ever spoken to a

Dolphin? or an Ant?

Maybe they do have a more evolved

existence than we think. After all, were

they not created by the same process as

we were?

Certainly they communicate with each

other, right? Maybe they are the more

spiritual beings and maybe they are the

ones that look at us and say, gee these

crazy humans sure screwed up our

planet.

We think we are superior, when in fact

maybe they are. They don't blow up

each other or shoot each other or steal

or screw around on their spouses or

pretend to think they have all the

answers or follow silly religions...then

again maybe they do.

Either way, the arrogance humans have

about their superiority on this planet is

ridiculous...and while I am at it...how can

anyone think for one moment that we

are the only planet in the vastness of

infinity that can possibly exist with life

on it...the probabilities have to be

expected rather than denied. To deny is

complete ignorance.

Until I see one of these other animals rise up and take over the planet themselves then I'm gonna say humans are still superior.

At the rate we are going they won't have to, they will just simply let us annihilate each other. Pretty smart on their part.

Another "man is the scourge of the planet" rant. These misanthropic rants are getting rather boring

Howdy,

If sheer numbers and vastness of colonization are considered for the "taking over of the planet," I do believe bacteria are the rightful rulers of our world.
Our world is and would be nothing without them.

As for animals, I do believe insects (especially the beetles) far outnumber humans anyway. Humans have many great abilities, but let's not go so far as to forget the numbers are not yet on our side.

Sincere regards,
Hydeman

The sheer stupidity of humans is a bacteria gone rampant, so I suppose you are correct in that assessment.

I don't know how one part of your post animal behavior about them being able to have thought processes like us, then jumping into an Aliens exist debate.

Just one more thing humans are arrogant about, possibly?

I have to agree with the OP

to a certain extent – we are arrogant,

and the impact we are having

on the environment is extensive.

However, while I also agree

that we underestimate

the intelligence of many

or most animals, I object

to the term “more evolved”

as this implies that evolution

is a ladder. It’s not a ladder

so much as a tree.

Also I think the term

‘Spiritual Being’ is a

pointless appeal to

new-ageism and belief

in the supernatural.

Rather than anthropom-

orphosise animals and

think of them as ‘little people’,

I think we should instead

stop seeing ourselves as

separate to the animal

kingdom – we are after all

just another type of animal.

And while I’ll agree that

more and more it seems that

self-awareness is not exclusive

to humans, even so it seems

many animals just do not have

the sense of self required

for the type of philosophical

musings you describe –

As of 2015, only the great

apes (excluding gorillas),

a single Asiatic elephant,

dolphins and potentially

other cetaceans, the Eurasian

magpie, and some ants,

have passed the MSR

test.
for example.

So superiority equates violence and suppression. Thank you for educating me.

Was that necessary? It would be considered trolling.

Ok...

I understand that certain people like to make comparisons of animals to people, whether out of disgust or degradation like dogs due to their submissive behavior and dirty habits, or the Chimpanzee. Even though humans come from the line of Chimps, and the supposeded 1 percent difference between us and them, in reality is pretty minimal, even thought to our minds, it was big enough to believe humans came from Gods design.

Then there's others that probably enjoy the compliments, like being a pitbull, a stallion, or a hot fox, but thats too is out of proudful arrogance.

But when you compare us to animals having similar thought processes to us, then there an issue there. Not a lot of animals can really build anything at all, other then nest or borrows, and not in the patterns or ways humans follow. Sure animals do have intelligence, like how do cats learn how to open sliding screen doors and raccoon being able to grasp handles, or how do packs strategize when they hunt.

As for Aliens, well that would more or less be just ignorance of the fact, and us thinking that we would be better then something able to travel here that we have no idea about would be a deadly combination of both.

No they probably just see us as less evolved beings trying to figure things out, you know that greed+vanity+selfishness= arrogance equation.

Nice try, the are spiritual beings and are most certainly more evolved based on the backwards thinking that most humans exhibit.
