Images circulating on social media showed a huge explosion
Footage circulating online appears to show a massive explosion in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin, the cause of which is not yet known.
The explosion reportedly occurred at the Tianjin Binhai New Development Zone at about 23:30 (15:30 GMT).
Pictures and video footage shared on social media suggest a number of people were wounded by the blast.
Several nearby tower blocks are without power, according to the Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
Tianjin is a major port and industrial area to the south-east of the Chinese capital, Beijing

Based on the area that it happened in, chances are it was an industrial accident.

Fingers crossed they don't have a night shift working at whatever plant this happened in.

That's one of the biggest explosions I've ever seen. Staying tuned for this one, curious what kind of material caused it. It's also a city where millions of people live. Can't imagine something this big didn't hurt anyone.

I doubt it, its a industrial zone. In a part being newly developed. Lets see what reason the Chinese government gives us.

Early reports from our activist contacts in China are saying:

The explosion scene is at the Dongjiang bonded Harbor area near the seventh gate of a hazardous chemicals, warehouse.

People need to close all Windows and Doors nearby, is likely to have secondary damage in the form of toxic gasses.

The video looks like something was on fire at the point of the explosion. Smaller blast then huge blast. Fireworks sounds right. Then all the little streamers coming off the main fireball kinda suggests that to me too.

Wow, definitely a big explosion. Looks like they were about a mile and a half away yet that shockwave still had some serious ooomph to it. Hopefully there weren't too many casualties.
