This is really the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

Every single metropolitan area, if it's larger that is, when they post job hirings for the police department ...They are inundated with candidates.

It's easy for them to be picky. That's why it upsets me when they hire so many bad cops. New York has way over 8 million residents. That's just the City proper, and not counting all the surrounding areas.

You mean to tell me that every single eligible minority candidate has been arrested? LOL

Impossible!
I agree. This is a piss poor excuse from the officials in NY City, to be honest.

I think you guys are over looking a few considerations.

of all black applicants how many don't meet the minimum criteria to be considered for the application process.
those that do meet minimum how many are cut for disqualifying factors?
how many make it pass the initial written testing phase?
how many make it past the physical aptitude testing?
how many make it through the background investigation?
how many make it past oral interview boards?
how many make it past the academy.

this is a long in depth process and deals with more than just background.

to put this in perspective we need to know how many black candidates applied and how many were cut solely for background issues.

Well ATS, this seems like quite the conundrum. Apparently The NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton says that there are not enough African American Candidates for NYPD because so many of them have done time in jail.

AS I remember the years of NYPD "Stop and Frisk" having entrapped so many African American Young People in the labyrinth of The New York Criminal Justice System due to the disproportionate "Stopping and Frisking" of African Americans. The Federal Courts put an end to this practice.

So they cant hice Black cops because so many have a rap sheet.
You claim so many have said history thanks to the disproportionate" Stop and Frisk" policy against blacks.
If so many have a rap sheet because when they where stopped they had drugs or arms or whatever, then clearly the policy was effective as it took delinquents off the streets.
No one made them carry. No one made them deal drugs.
AS Xcathdra said, Its personal responsibility.

Which makes the comment all the much worse does it not?

In the sense of the words that he choose.
Using such a broad generalization when there many other factors that could be the reason.

Violence is violence. You can't say we commit more acts of violence then conveniently ignore how much violence non-blacks commit. Especially when the numbers show we don't commit the most violence at all. That's like saying that killing is wrong except when we kill hundreds of thousands of civilians in an invasion/occupation, because that doesn't count.

And we can't talk honestly about the violence in Africa unless we first talk about the "Scramble for Africa", where all but 2 countries in Africa were conquered & oppressed by Europe from the late 1880s to the 1920s. African populations & rebel groups fought off the Europeans the whole time, and started gaining their independence from Europe form the 1950s to 1980. France alone killed something like 1.5million Algerians during Algeria's fight for independence. The West then militarily backed the pro-capitalist factions against the communist backed factions, exactly as they did in Latin America during this time period (like how the CIA backed 2 of the factions in Angola's War after the Portuguese left).

So once again, that's using black people as examples of violence, while conveniently ignoring the violence non-blacks committed to cause the situation in the first place.

Actually to place the article and information claimed into context knowing the number would be helpful. If the NYPD is not getting a lot of black applicants and the ones they are getting don't meet qualifications it can shed some light on what the problem is.

It could very well mean qualified candidates just aren't applying instead of being perceived as all black candidates have criminal history.

The way the article reads, at least to me, is slanted towards a racial issue instead of qualified issue, if that makes sense.

Maybe they will do what they did in Dayton and the DOJ will pressure them to lower the standards to accommodate them.

Ugh...

lower the standards....

Why is it we have to constantly use the lowest common denominator instead of expecting more out of ourselves?

Because of cries of racism like this case and a quest to be diverse.

A big freaking joke IMO.
