So you want to have the luxuries of a first world country but you hate taxes?

I hear this a lot...people bitching about having to pay taxes yet they still want to have the luxuries of paved roads, emergency services, public hospitals and all of the other luxuries that come with living in a first world country.

Yes I agree our Government could tone down the spending a little bit, especially all of the foreign aid and military spending..but if we want to have the luxury of paved roads, sewer systems, trash collection, public hospitals, EMS services, 911 then we need to pay our fair share of taxes.

Let's face it....if we didn't have an expansive tax collection agency our country would not be as developed as it is now.

The IRS, along with our Government are a necessary evil and are crucial for a functioning society.

Besides, millionaires billionaires and billion dollar corps pay little if any taxes because of the bs tax codes.

I'm self employed and do the same as Google and Amazon do in the UK, I avoid paying as much as I can.
Tax avoidance is not illegal in my country, but tax evasion is. Long may it continue.

We work our asses off for a piece of paper that they just printed off?

It is no longer backed by any kind of value, other than imagination.

Ranting that taxes are good? Wow,just wow!

Make a sales tax increase and luxury tax, if you need to.

This thing called money is used as control, nothing more.

Uneven application of rates, people using loopholes, political targeting. Which of those do you like?

paved roads

well maintained highway systems
a strong military and a functional government

sales tax alone would not cover all of the expenses in a country of more than 300 million

I don't hate having to pay taxes so much as I am mystified at situations like that of my
brother in law and sister in law who have one child living at home and got a check from the government for
almost 10,000. That's right, there's three zeroes after that 10...

She didn't even earn 10,000 I think! He doesn't work, he gets a disability check (around 700).

Jealous? Maybe...I do like the luxuries and have lived without them also
They just returned Monday night from a two week excursion to Florida and the Keys...

Jealous? Probably but, I wouldn't want to wait all year to buy the things I need or vacation either...

Have you ever lived in another country? Seriously? I've lived in quite a few and its amazing when your country doesn't spend everything on defense...that frees up quite a bit for other things...

Sure you no longer have a bigger defense budget than the world combined but you have solid infrastructure....good healthcare....an education system that is surpassing the world average...you know things like that.

I've lived in Europe, Asia, Central America, South America and the good ol USA....there are some great things about the USA with the exception of the Asian country its the worst place ive ever lived. Job wise its the greatest though.

I am also assuming you are referring to the United States more so than other More Developed Countries.

For example...Germany has high taxes for single males...a tv tax and a radio tax...its crazy...but the health care is amazing...they work less than 40 hours a week...they get tons of vacations...their school system is setup for you to quit at certain points depending on what you want to do...so if you want to be a laborer..why go to school for a long time? In almost every profession you want to do from hotel clerk to cop requires you to go to a school for 3 years or so... that does nothing but teaches you that job. The downside of this is wanting to change jobs but the upside is everyone is competent. I don't think I met a person over there that didn't understand their job from top down. So although they have high taxes ...I enjoyed it way more than I ever did the USA.

I find most Lesser Developed Countries to be way more chill. The main roads and stores are fine...its the off beaten path that lacks infrastructure. For major healthcare concerns you can go somewhere else. When you live in lets say Central America you can go to Costa Rica for some medical procedures...or even Cuba.

I don't think its an issue of taxes always...its what they spend those tax dollars on. I grew up in a small town...we fixed pot holes by doing it ourselves. We kept a small amount of stuff to fill them in at the city shed and people just drove up and took some and filled in the pot holes on their street. We didn't have to hire someone for 20 bucks an hour to clean up garbage or fix minor potholes. If people actually took pride in their little communities (like many Lesser Developed Countries do) then we'd not need to waste so much money on taxes.

Do you even realize that Federal taxes have nothing to do with EMS, sewer, trash, roads (Federal is Interstate's only) and 911?

This is all handled on the local level with property taxes.

When people speak of smaller government they are refering to our dangerous, inept and inefficient Federal government.

If you think paying the tax we do is alright, well fair play to you for being so tolerant.

This! I don't have a problem with taxes, nor the essential services they provide.

I do have HUGE problems with the tax code: who is taxed for how much for what reason, as well as who is not taxed, and who is given what credits/deductions to pay no tax at all and sometimes even get a "refund" from hardworking taxpayers.... but the best I hope for is an across-the-board flat tax for individuals and corporations, earned and unearned income.

Aside from the paved roads, I pay a monthly bill for my sewer service and trash collection, and pay a point of service bill for the rest as I need them/use them.

I have no gripe with infrastructure. I have a major gripe with having 92 million American dependents who happily exchange their going to vote for the Meal Ticket in exchange for my redistributed money. Money I worked for and money I earned... what did many of the takers do other than exist? "I exist" doesn't qualify as a good investment in my book.

Yes, I bitch about paying taxes and rightfully so. If my taxes actually went to paying for bridges, roads, schools, and things that made us a first world nation I wouldn't bitch. The problem is very little of my tax dollar goes to those things. I pay fuel tax, property tax, and sales tax. I also paytolls when I use many roads so that pays for the bridges, schools, roads, and sewers.


My federal tax dollar has bailed out corporations and paid bonuses to the elite. My federal tax dollar pays for the largest military force in the world where they will spend over a billion dollars on one stupid plane several of which crashed. My federal tax pays for the DEA, FBI, CIA, IRS, and bloated homeland security. My government loves to waste my tax dollars because they don't have to do sh!t to earn it except threaten or imprison us if we don't give it to them.

I like many others, don't bitch about taxes. It's true taxes are unfair and spent in horribly wasteful ways but I do not complain about them. I understand taxes suck but are a good thing. I have no problem with taxes. I just don't like how we are being taxed in an immoral way just to see our taxes wasted. Wasted on paying corporations employees welfare while corporations are getting tax breaks (aka being pay to employee people), huge wars with budgets for development going far beyond what they should and in wasteful ways and because so many rich people get breaks to "stimulate" the economy which is a polite way of saying "#ing those who are taught no better (almost everyone)".

Well over half, logically speaking. While I don't feel like tracking down in-depth figures to support this claim, it stands to reason that 46% of the deficit spending is also directly classifiable as "waste". That make 46% of the 31% spent on interest servicing the debt additional waste. (0.46*31=14.3), (46% + 14% = 60%)

60 cents out of every tax dollar the feds spend directly attributable to waste. In what other profession would these goobers not have long ago been sent packing?

I'm sorry, your response makes very little sense to me. I have no idea how to respond.

I can say however that I reserve the right to... um... complain about anything I choose, including taxes. That's one of my choices too
