I totally agree with you. Even with a lot of people voting the US ( most likely because they are a large super power) I still see Russia as the largest threat. They are a large country with a lot of nukes and they refuse to let go of old ways.

Personally I think we should scrap NATO and reform a better more mutual defence treaty.
A treaty that focuses on defence only and respect of sovereignty.

Im sick of the west buddying up to country’s that do not share our values and at the throats of other allies or dont pull there weight and expect other do to the dirty work.

Think a new treaty should be USA,UK,Canada,New Zealand,Australia,Japan,South Korea,EU. We all share the same values in some way or other, none of us in that group are enemies and except for Japan and some EU country’s, have all got a track record of coming to each others aid.

If any of the countrys I listed were attacked I know I would want the UK to help out and would go myself if I passed the medical

I voted US, for several reasons.

We could solve the humanitarian crisis here in the US with the wave of a hand. But don't because corps and billionaires making even more money they don't need is more important than paying people decent wages. Millions of Americans are homeless and hungry right now, right here in the US.

We are the only country on earth with the actual ability and population to enact a WW2 style world take over scheme ( if nukes weren't used). And I honestly believe our leaders are crazy enough to try it.

Our military has outstripped all other nations several fold. Say what you will about Russia this or that, or China. We have the population numbers alone to crush Russia, and the tech advantage over China.

We ( by which I mean our idiots in charge) have our fingerprints on most of the current world conflicts. Whether this is causing small scale conflicts to defuse larger regional conflicts is open to debate( I believe this is the case, but am not positive).

We are and have been wratcheting up aggression with Russia over Ukraine. Did we start it? I don't know. Are we just reacting to Russian aggression? I don't know. I would like to think Russia is the aggressor and we are reacting, but I am not honestly positive.

Just my reasoning on the reason I voted as I did.

There are many more factors, but discussing them all would take too much space and time.

So I pointed out the major reasons.

Hardly. They didn't have nuclear weapons in the 1st or 2nd world war and Hitler learned the hard way why Russia is historically a force to be reckoned with. The same as Napoleon. Who do you think would invade Russia if they didn't have nukes? They might not be able to exert their influence internationally to the extent they have, but it's not like they would have been conquered by the U.S or some such nonsense.

Based off of a lot of comments I see on ATS, USA will take first place.

Rather amusing, imo, that at this point, over 50% view the USA as the top threat. I don't expect that to really change. I do find it misguided, but then again, what can one expect from a social site, with such wide ranging views, and a lot of them are not logic-based. /shrug

I suppose it really doesn't matter. The Canadians are the ones who you should all worry about, they lull your sense to sleep with their easy-going Canadian ways, and their soft "aye" at the end of each sentence, and their bacon will conquer it all.

It's damn terrifying, those creepy Canadians, and their secret snow bases way up north, full of Cheese, beer, and Bacon.
