A man has been arrested following a series of dawn raids in Merseyside this morning.

The North West counter-terrorism unit said the 31-year-old man was held on suspicion of “being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism”.

Five addresses were being searched this morning - two in Holt Road, Kensington, two in Prescot Road, Kensington and one in Rainhill, St Helens.

The searches are expected to last several hours and possibly days.

Counter-terrorism police refused to elaborate on the nature of the alleged terror plot.

This is ongoing at the moment and details are vague as to what the intention of those arrested was.

The link below is giving updates as and when they get them.

Merseyside terror raids - man arrested as five addresses are searched

This is all getting a bit too close to home for me. Makes you realise we ALL need to keep an eye out for suspicious movements and actions.

A report from police.

Yeah, That's what our Governments want us to do. Like Nazi Germany, Report you dodgy Neighbour just because maybe they dont fit into society like everyone else. Remember, People were exterminated all over Europe in the 30's and 40's because Nosey/suspicious neighbours turned on neighbours at a governments request. and i'm not talking about Jews here.
I'm talking about people who just preferred to keep themselves to themselves.

Perfect Example.
Meth lab turns out to be Maple Syrup Lab

Yes..that has been understood for a long time. "First they came for the jews Etc when they came for me there was nobody left to speak"

But I think that most people are intelligent and have a discerning eye and know that if they see "very" unusual activity in regards to what is going on at the moment regarding terrorism...then you might just save another soldier being beheaded in your street.

Also if you read the reports this was discovered by counter-terrorism and not neighbors or fellow workers but as it is close to home realise that this is just as likely here as in London.

I thought that's why we are having our freedoms taken away...so they can watch out for us.

Now we are expected to participate in taking away our liberties and freedoms?

Well, it has been said that society will gladly embrace and bow to our new overlords. Just don't think we should be giving them a hand.

Peace

Well lets not jump the gun yet.

I live in Merseyside myself, in Liverpool. There's not been much said about this, not at all.

The article states that, as of yet, no one has been 'charged' with anything and at this time it's still just a suspicion. The guy seems to have a very nice car for that area so I'm going to assume it's drug related as it usually is around those parts. Kensington and the likes.

This wont make me wonder what next door is up to as they have a right, as I do, to their privacy and their freedom of autonomy without authoritarian rule, whether that be me spying on them or the government.

Don't let stories like this spook you too much. An attack will happen at some point and our government is responsible, not your next door neighbour. If anything they'd run into a fire to get you out.

I hope this blows over as another drug raid turned into something else by the increasingly aggressive and belligerent Merseyside police.

If it was drug-related I think they would have said so.

You'd be surprised. They once held one of my friends on a 'terror' charge because he wouldn't put out a ciggy.

That's not a lie. They pretty much said to his face we can use anti terror laws to hold you for as long as we want.

I believe very little will come of this story, and if it does. Then it'll be too late. Liverpool will be hit at some point as it's seen by many as a melting pot for cultures. You can hit so many people all at once.

Well, we will have to wait to see how it develops. They probably didn't have the counter-terrorism squad out for your mate with a ciggy.

They seem to have uncovered a ring of suspects over quite a big area and they entered the buildings with hazmat suits and gas masks. They probably expected explosives or the like. If it leads to more being uncovered hopefully they will have averted what we fear at the moment. That being an innocent bystander of a distant problem.

Please can you clarify what constitutes as "suspicious", so that I know when to inform the Gestapo?

It's pretty concerning how much police presence there's been in Liverpool lately. I'm from Liverpool myself and have noticed much more that there are police everywhere. Even the reaction to the late kick off of the Merseyside derby a couple of weeks ago was OTT, with dozens of riot vans on standby next to the ground, in a match which rarely sees any trouble.

I've quite recently moved from the City Centre and am not far from where the police have cordoned off stretches of Allerton road due to a "manhunt" and now the news of terrorism raids.

As a previous poster mentioned, Liverpool is a veritable melting pot of cultures, with huge Irish, Welsh, Chinese, Polish and eastern communities - not to mention many more besides - and there's rarely any problems. In fact, the biggest issue in Liverpool (like much of the UK) comes from uneducated, shaven-headed white youths so if this truly was a 'terror raid', then it's certainly worrying and really out of the ordinary.
