Boy is a derisive term, same as any other slur. Used to demean, devalue and limit a black man.

Have brains fallen out of heads or are folks finally feeling the impact of sodium fluoride?

Never heard anyone using "Boy" as a racial slur not in the UK anyhow.
I call any lad a boy If they are under 21.
I think it is a cultural slur If it is....definitely not one in the UK.

Yes.

It's just one of those things you know you don't say to a black person. It's slave related.

Apparently now the operative term to use as a cultural, racial slur and used to demean black males is "Thug"

I have never heard that term applied to a white male here on ATS.

So forget racial slur or anything racial for a minute. I have been affiliated and work with and volunteer with people who are considerably older then me. For me I don't want to be called boy or kid by someone who is older then me. I find that is a little disrespectful to me. like it lessen s me in a way. especially in some of the political groups I have been in.

Sue them. Complain. Be a victim. Make them villains.

Whatever you do, under no circumstances, take any responsibility for your own meanings you give things, or your own feelings of being offended. Live in anger always looking for the next thing to anger you. Then complain.

So when you think of thugs, all you think of are black males?

Really?

Yeah, thug - thuggee.

Same thing. Person who uses brute force to get what they want. I never heard of it being associated by race.

Apparently there are people here who only think of a black man when they hear the word "thug." Not sure why.

Because that is all they have to bludgeon you with for being "insensitive" since they have no other logical argument to throw your way...

I don't understand what your saying? when other people speak I have to try and interpret what there trying to communicate, and there meaning behind it.

If I am having a group conversation and someone says "hey that kid said this" your going to take it with a grain of salt because a kid said it,. now if it starts "Hey Jamie said this" your going to be taken more seriously.

No, I think of a thug in the classical sense and not applied to race.

I think you just tried to use a strawman argument. Old number 4....

Perhaps a refresher of this thread might be of benefit.

She should have said, "you're gonna get your ass shot, Sir!"

If you're holding a gun on someone, there's no need to be verbally abusive. The threat of the bullet should be enough.

Yes, true.

It's happened to everybody who's older than you too. Somehow everybody got through it. You will too.

Are you saying you're guilty of "hate speech" because you accused me of being racist because I used the word "thug" when you yourself, and everybody else, knows it means hoodlums of any race?

I'm not sure your point.

Thugs are punks. Bullies. Criminals. Not sure why you brought race into it.

Really not cool to accuse somebody of racism because of your own biases. If you took it the wrong way, I'm sorry. It wasn't my intent.

If it makes you feel any better I think the terrorists in Paris were thugs too. Is that ok?
