I can't understand why so many members on here will argue a subject which I think they really have no interest in.
Do people love arguing that much?

There's a thread on Israel & the Gaza strip war now into 14 pages of arguing and name calling over a war in an area that I doubt anyone cares about really unless you live there.

It's no more than a football game really where people have their team and root for them and talk trash about the other side.

Let's be completely honest for a minute can we? As an American you can watch the news daily and see that a large majority of people don't care much about their own family circle, their neighborhoods, their cities or states.

They don't care about their own freedoms being trampled and slipping away, the rising costs of food, housing & medical costs.

People won't leave the keyboard long enough to protest, fight and set right some wrongs in their own country....

but yet.......

They will sit here all night arguing about what's going on in another country across the world.

Maybe I live in a bubble but I care a hell of a lot more about the area around me and whats going on.

I think people on here just like to fight.....without actually having to fight someone......

That's all there is to it really. Some people thrive on conflict, on drama. It gets their rocks off apparently. For some it's just a contest to see who can stitch together a more popular argument, who can ridicule their opponent more, and can give themselves a pat on the back later for their 'clever wit' and 'cutting rhetoric;' rather than actually taking a stand on principles, or dealing with important issues.

Ever notice how some people start an argument at every opportunity, on any issue? whether it's based on facts or opinions? whether it affects them or not? Ever hear of people bragging about arguments they 'won?' Heck, I wish I had a dollar for every person who has admitted point-blank that they just love to argue because they know they will win, or because they enjoy the challenge.

It's just a game for some people who like to take home imaginary, psychological trophies. I think for some people it temporarily fills a hole where otherwise there is a sucking void of poor self-esteem.

It's only my opinion though!

I personally get burned out with arguments or debates very quickly. Proving to someone else that I may be correct is too much time, effort, and stress, so it's not a high priority of mine. If one disagrees with me peacefully and explains their stance, fine. But anything beyond that usually terminates my participation.

I agree...

Just the other day, I posted a thread about an anonymous man donating a large sum of money for a woman in Canada to receive special stem cell therapy for her horrible disease

Well, me not being from Canada, I simply asked a question about the healthcare there & why this woman had to raise that kind of money on her own
I added 'just out of curiosity' because I did not know, nothing more, I wanted to learn

The response from one poster that I got was, 'Why do I have to turn this into a political argument. Why can't I be happy for that woman'

Needless to say I was like WTH and where did that come from
Oh there were a few more uncalled for remarks but still, like you said, why so negative/angry???

It's weird
Guess some people thrive on negativity

I try hard to overlook them but every now and then there is that 1 remark that is way out of left field that leaves you scratching your head *sigh*

You are not alone...

Its the kids.

Expect a lot more over the next few weeks. Holidays.

I always assume when people act this way they are probably teens going through hormonal changes. A lot of these people can be so combative with their words it seems obvious they have some kind of personality disorder or hormonal issues.

No self respecting people would act this way as it always looks pathetic from the outside. Yet these people seem to think its cool or something???? I dont really know why they do it. I do know if they read their comments back in a couple of years a lot of ATS members will be embarrased to hell. They dont realise it here for ever. The posts cannot be taken away.

I genuinely care
My kids live in southern Israel, and I have friends in Gaza, unfortunately this fact just gets lost when the keyboard warriors get going. No amount of facts and experience will convince them.

Haters gonna hate

It's so easy to sit and type poison, try sitting and waiting for sms's from family and friends everyday just to know they are safe. It's now 7:20 here in England, so 9:20 in Israel and no word from my kids yet.

Scratch that just got a message from my daughter......................

Phew

I don't get into the Monty Python humor sometimes (guess because I'm not English) but that was pretty funny.

I'm sorry to hear your involved in the debacle so closely, I hope your kids stay safe.
You have a genuine interest in the affair.

When people are involved in it personally I understand but 75% of the people arguing on here over the Israel /Gaza war couldn't even show you Israel on the map.....

I'm surprised , 7 posts and nobody called me an idiot yet and wants to argue about how they are right and I'm wrong...lol

It's coming, no post can go for long without somebody wanting to argue about something.

I refuse to argue. I stated my opinion and any arguing replies will be ignored....lol

I can call you names and argue with you if you'd like?? I mean... Just so you are comfortable with the normalcy of it.

But seriously, I do pretty much agree with you. I think a lot of folks are generally concerned, but there are many more that could not care less and everything they know about it is in the one post they read and replied to.

Some people do it just to be involved, to appear as if they care, or just to piss in someone's cornflakes. I guess ATS is such a huge community there is no way to avoid the members that do those things.

Sometimes all you can do is shake your head. An old saying is... Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy? I think that says a lot.

Therein lies the irony,

Most people here have probably never met an Israeli or a Palestinian, and yet they presume to know the whole situation, it kind of makes the whole deny ignorance a bit laughable at times.

My thanks for your good wishes

You don't seem to be able to walk a mile in someone else's shoes very well.
What of a crippled old person who does not have the mobility that most people take for granted?
Or a person locked into a bad geographic area for protest who cannot afford tickets to travel?
There are many other things I could list.
How do you know these people do not use modern technology to spread their message and fight propaganda by dragging it into the light of day where the common folk may see the truth and be appalled by what has been hidden from them?
ATS is not the only way of spreading information, do you believe people with a message would stick to only one forum?
Now you know a few examples of people who actually care.
What is your angle, what would be your reason to convince others that folks just do not care?
I care, educate me on your strife.

I agree...

seagull also made a thread about this a few days ago!

I also have family in both areas of conflict and have lived in in those areas.... yet many on ATS see it fit to dictate the 'truth' to me as they see it from their homes half way across the globe!

Its really sad!

Some people like to tear up anyone they can, with either verbal or text, or both, to make themselves feel better about their own shortcomings. I took a quote from your first comment/response here, from NarcolepticBuddha;
"I think for some people it temporarily fills a hole where otherwise there is a sucking void of poor self-esteem"

I know from experience that this is a main reason for some to be argumentive. I know someone who has low self esteem, feels bad about herself, and will cut down anyone she can just to make herself feel better. Sad really, but a fact of life.

She used to be so argumentive that if there was nothing current to argue about, she would bring up something several years old, just for a topic to argue!! Drove me nuts! She is much better now as I had told her, "if ya want to argue, go to the mirror, because I won't waste time on that anymore"... It worked, for the most part...... Syx.

1. I don't have to walk a mile in someone else's shoes to say people shouldn't argue just to argue. If you don't have a vested interest in something stay out of it.

2. If your crippled and without mobility I feel for you, still don't give you the right to argue a point just to argue.

3. If your locked in a bad geographic area and can't get out and your only joy in life is to argue on the internet, I would would suggest rethinking your life choices.

4. People who spread "their" propaganda online are no different than the people they are supposedly fighting against, propaganda is propaganda. Propaganda is not facts, it's just telling a story from your biased viewpoint. Both sides have it.

5. I know ATS is not the only forum out there, and I don't care what forum they visit to spread their propaganda.

6. Now I know "one" person who actually has a vested interest in what happens there.

7. I do not have an "angle".

8. I am not trying to convince "folks that others do not care". I am trying to convince folks to quit arguing over stuff they do not know enough about or care about truly.

9. You care? Which side do you believe is being wronged in this conflict?
If you care why don't you do something other than argue on the internet? There are planes that can take you over there so you can fight for them or provide humanitarian relief for the victims. Surely there is something you could do?
Arguing on ATS won't help them at all.
