Victims of sexual predators, even if it happens one time, are frequently scarred for life. They suffer from PTSD. I'm sure people who suffer from "day-to-day" racism could also suffer from PTSD.

But, I think people are taking exception to how you're dismissing how severely people can be affected by sexual assault.

In any event, Kudos to dad. He had every right to incapacitate the individual physically assaulting a family member, including shooting the guy dead.

That being said, good on the father. I really can't fault him for acting that way, especially considering the fact that I don't have kids, so it would be stupid to do so considering my perspective.

He was in the right place at the right time-If he didn't do it now, I imagine it would have an even larger psychological impact on his son, considering that this was apparently done for 3 years, and I'm sure that person (and I use that phrase loosely) had no plans of stopping anytime soon.

Sucks that it happened all this time, but at least it's over now.

Soon the creature will be in the revolving door to do it again elsewhere. HE SCREWED up and let him live. THERE IS no mercy in my heart for them at all.

First off, no racism is not worse than molestation or rape. Any semi-intelligent individual knows that their race does not make who they are. They do not let others who judge them affect what they think of themselves because of the color of their skin. In the USA race is one of the protected characteristics when applying to a job. Am I saying people never get denied a job based on their race: no. What I am saying is that we actively fight it. I have found more situations in my life where I have been denied jobs for being white, being former military, for being young, or for being a man than ANY of my non-white friends have.

Regardless this is about how racism just doesnt compare to molestation or rape. Clearly you have never been the victim of either. It makes you feel like a piece of meat. You have no control over anything in your life. You feel powerless because you could not fight it and you feel like you deserved it. It makes you think that you are the most useless human being in the world...and thats if you even think you are human anymore. Now imagine feeling like that while married. Imagine telling your spouse that you dont want to be touched, hugged, kissed or to have sex for a long time. Imagine crying when you finally DO get intimate. Partially because you feel the experience again, partially because you feel terrible for ruining it for them and partially because you just want things to be right again. The lack of contact will make the two of you feel unloved, and you will feel worse knowing that you are the reason why neither of you is happy. Now imagine having a child and feeling so depressed that you cannot even muster the energy to make them more than a peanutbutter sandwich. That child loves you and you cannot even be a parent anymore, you cant even give kisses and now the child think that they did something wrong.

Rape and molestation take your life away from you and for many they never get it back. F*** your racism. There are always more jobs if you get denied one, and people are mean, but at least you know its just because of your skin color and not who you are. Maybe next time you should get some perspective from somebody who has experienced it.

the only problem i have with your statement is that had the father killed that piece of trash he would end up in jail himself and the leave the poor kid to an even worse situation without parents to help pick up the shattered pieces of his life

Obviously, I understand what this guy did was wrong; but I don't condone the actions of the "Dad"

Maybe because I'm a pacifist, but I definitely don't support it. Calling the police on him probably would have been enough. If it were my child, would I have acted in this manner? I honestly don't know; but I can say one thing for sure, I wouldn't be proud of myself when all was said and done.

I've experienced the effects of this first hand on victims and their families and it is one of the most horrendous things to deal with that there is - if not the worst.

There is misplaced shame, guilt, anger, regret, self-loathing everywhere. PTSD remains with all for a long long time. It's not yet settled in those I know.

It destroys lives. It changes people. It is despicable.

Frankly - and this is not an ad hominem attack as I am actually criticising you personally - not making your argument into a personal one - you are a disgrace. If you feel that I hope that you are never allowed near children. I hope that someone is informing social services of your attitude and I hope that I never have to read such ridiculous comments on ATS again. It is as close to condoning child abuse as I have ever read.

This is the problem with people today. You get way too emotional and you don't really think clearly. You think what the poster said was worthy to be censored? Really? For what? For merely disagreeing with you?

Why is it hardly as many people get as outraged about Murder? There is nothing worse than torture and murder, yet many seem to believe that based on reactions with cases like this. Being blind with rage and bias, you don't even care if there could be more to the story.

What he said was right, violence does at times, beget violence. The dad is no hero; he merely did what most bloodthirsty individuals would do in the same situation. To be a real hero, you have to be something different. That's what a hero is, right? To stand above opposition? If I were to handle this situation the same way, what is my opposition? I guess anyone is a hero then.

8 year olds don't "want" sex. They are not even in puberty yet - there is no desire for sex. To have sex with a child of 8 years old is to harm that child. Not saying no because they are scared and don't know what is happening to them is not the same thing as "wanting" a damn thing.

That is the sickest comment about molestation I have ever heard, and the only other time I have heard it was from a pedophile.

It is my belief that anyone who defends this chester or says the beating he got he didn't deserve is a brain dead individual.

I don't have any kids. I don't know what it's like to have one of my children molested by a perverted SOB. But I do know that no matter what, a person like that should be punished to the full extent of the parents wrath.

So...you're saying what he did was okay? No...it's not that. What he did, it didn't warrant a beating. He is just a sick individual that should be placed in a mental facility, right? He has to be given his proper chance for rehabilitation, right? Sure, it's his right as a human being. However, I don't blame the father one bit. The beating he got he deserved because doing something like that is so seriously ****ed up that there are no words that you can say that would justify it.

You do realize his kind are entered in to protective custody in prison because even the, "worst of the worst" will beat him to death.

Yes, I am aware of that. I am aware that prisoners, many of them worse than this guy, will feel a sense of holy vengeance and meet it out upon him. These rapists, murderers, gangsters. These people, which are hardly any better, see fit to judge someone else. That is not something to be celebrated.

I'm not celebrating anything. I'm only saying that this guy got what was coming to him. He took advantage of a child who had no way of protecting himself. Chester had the opportunity to protect himself.

I have never been a violent person, however, i have a 4 year old daughter and 12 year old son to protect and keep safe. Where this man found the rage to beat this guy up i understand. Where he found the strength to stop ill never know. No matter the beliefs he had. Took a great man not to kill this waste of air.

In my country we have a saying: "You only can beat the devil into a person - not out." The father should have liberated his son and then have gotten the hell out of there - then call the police.
