If time travel was possible, what time and place would you go back to and why?

Mods, if this thread is on the wrong forum, i apologise.

My question to day is as the title of the thread indicates -

Imagine that we now have the capability to travel BACK, not forward, in time.

You can visit ANY period of history anywhere in the world.

What time period would to travel back to, and more importantly, why?

Your not allowed to change history - you can only visit to "live the experience" of being alive in that time and place.

Personally, i'd love to visit Elizabethan England full of dirt and disease, yet living the renaissance that was sweeping Europe at that moment.

And you?

I would travel back in time about a week and buy a Megamillions lottery ticket using the winning numbers.

If I could go any place and any time? I would go back to the place were I lost my dad's hunting knife. It had been in the family for so long and sharpened so many times that it almost looked like a filet knife. When I told him that I had lost it he said it was ok, that it was getting pretty much unusable anyway. But by the look in his eyes, I could tell me losing that knife hurt him more than if I had buried it in his heart. I would also settle for the time that giant asteroid impacted the gulf of Mexico. That would be one heck of a show wouldn't it !
Luv ya Dad. Miss Ya !

I might have travelled to a time when a great prophet walked the Earth, such as Abraham, Jesus, Moses, Mohammed or Buddha. First I'd have to spend a couple of years in the area to learn the language. Then I'd try to get a place in the audience of one of these speaking, if there were any available. And if they had secret mystery schools and such I'd hope to be initiated although I might not have been accepted to go far or at all.

Or maybe I'd go to a time where man was in direct contact with God and hope to be part of that consciousness. I don't care much for anything material so this might even have been before (or beyond?) the creation of matter.

edit: Ok I guess I could not interact with them, and thus not be initiated. But I would be floating in the air watching and listening, then.

It's funny how people, even if they have a choice to visit ANY place or time in history, have the tendancy to go back only a few years and see something that happened to them...hope you find that knife.

If I had a dollar for every time I've heard this question...I'd have three dollars.

I want to go back to a point where humanity really started advancing, to see if we had any 'outside help' with our development. Also I wouldn't mind going back and seeing the construction of Stonehenge or other megaliths, I would love to see how the ancients constructed them and find out what their purpose was.

Because it would be cool.

I'd go back to Ancient Egypt to see how the pyramids were built.

Then you see that your premise is faulty.
A time traveller visiting the past changes history.

The set where the moon landing was staged, lol.

Jesus's death. To see that it really didn't happen.

My birth, because I really believe I was adopted, lol.

Should I go on?

Yeah, I'm kinda pissed.

Seriously, what you propose would have to remote viewing. Stepping on a blade of grass a million years ago could have huge effects on the timeline and make our present very different.

I'd go back to 30 seconds before phage and take a photo of the look on his face as he sees me, being the first human setting foot anywhere

Ahhah. I kid..

I'd go back to December 27th 2013 and murder myself to prevent all of the things that happened, from happening. And because I would then have created a paradox, I would not have actually interfered with history. Because I would then not be alive to go back in time and murder myself.

I'm nothing if not profoundly inane!

Again, it's funny how some people feel they just don't belong in the time and place where they are. They are inexorably drawn towards another time and place...Makes you think the idea of a past life may not be all that crazy after all.

LOL I was going to say the above! But I would have said 'to see if Jesus really existed' and 'to see if I really look like the milkman!'

So...I'll have to say something different:

I'd love to travel to England, beginning of the 6th century to see if King Arthur was real.......and to look for Avalon.
