Russia bans Kaliningrad military inspections: Lithuania
Lithuania has said Moscow shelved a bilateral agreement on military inspections on Monday amid increased concerns in Eastern Europe over a resurgent Russia.
The ex-Soviet Baltic nation's defence ministry said Moscow "unilaterally suspended" the 2001 deal that allowed Lithuania to send inspectors to Russia's Baltic Sea exclave of Kaliningrad on an annual basis.
"Russia's action...can be identified as yet another move towards the destruction of mutual trust and the security system in Europe."

The US can't launch commercial or military satellites without Russian engines for our rockets.
www.nbcnews.com...
Loss of access to those engines would seriously harm the US military. So much for sanctions, Russia can retaliate any time they choose.
If the Kiev government chooses to launch an all out assault on Slavyansk, they will cross Russia's red line and they will get the invasion they have been asking for.
Elon Musk, founder and Chief Engineer of SpaceX, made the case at a congressional hearing last week for phasing out the Atlas V because of its dependence on Russian engines and using his "made in America" Falcon rockets instead. At the same hearing, ULA's Michael Gass stressed that ULA has a two-year supply of the RD-180 engines and is confident it could produce more on its own if the supply from Russia was disrupted.

maybe you can point out to us where in the article you posted it states the US cant launch satellites without Russian engines.
The United states government - NASA / Air Force, in addition to private contractors are not facing an engine shortage.
You guys really should research more before making a claim that is not supported by facts. As an example we use a lot of our older minute man / minotaur rockets for launches.
The US air force has developed a satellite delivery system that is launched from fighter aircraft.
We have the X-37 B.
etc etc etc

Victor,
The answer is because the current government in Kiev wants to retain power, not do what is best for Ukraine. At the very least, they want to disrupt the parts of Ukraine that would overwhelmingly vote against them. Suppressing the vote, or enticing a Russian invasion, either way they see that as the best path to stay in power.

Why can't these idiots in Kiev walk the middle line, whereby
a) they develop friendly terms and further grow trade relations with Russia
b) also develop good trade terms with EU without any formal membership
c) declare Finlandization Policy whereby they will "NEVER" join NATO
This way they might save the industrially rich eastern part of Ukraine from breaking away and also get more help from both west and Russia in saving their economy from 'final bankruptcy'.
Russia is NOT a superpower anymore but is still a) a Nuclear Superpower b) Strong Regional Power
Both NATO and Ukraine should have thought several times before embarking into an 'ugly bold' move against Russia.
Even if East still breaks away, Kiev can still follow neutral policy and avoid the trouble for its people.
