This one is suspicious for sure.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) somehow was able to grant $2.7 Million to fund a study in Vietnam.

The "Study" is about effects that TV has on people.

The villages in Vietnam will use gasoline generators to power the new TV system.

Some professor at Penn State U is claiming they need this because they want to find links to things like obesity, gender relationships and public displays of affection to name a few.

The professor claims that no such data is available here in the U.S. and it will be useful.

The TV stations will be all Vietnam TV channels.

Vietnam is a Marxist–Leninist single-party state and is full blown Authoritarian and Totalitarian.

Hmmm.

The Department of Health and Human Services is spending $2,797,979 on a study that brings television to more than a dozen remote villages in Vietnam to study its impact on their culture and reproductive behavior.

“In cooperation with the Vietnam government, we have selected 14 villages in a remote, mountainous area of Vietnam that currently lacks electricity,” according to the grant description for ‘Television and International Family Change: A Randomized Experiment.'

“Treatment villages will receive televisions and generators with gasoline to operate the televisions. Control villages will not receive generators or televisions.”

A waste of money sure. Study seems stupid.

But dont see why USA and vietnam cant co operate.
Its there country let them be run how they wish, no need to point fingers at them and act aggressive towards them because they do things diffrent.

Nothing wrong at all with "cooperation".

But people here are screaming their heads off about poverty and debt.

Oh now we have been cooperating running joint military exercises with Vietnam because they are scared crapless about China.

Up to me though they wouldn't be getting crap from US, cash or military wise.

Hasn't Vietnam had MORE than enough 'help' in living memory from the US, for both sides sake? So first we're at war for hearts and minds....and now we're, well, gently reaching for hearts and minds.

Gee... Maybe just leaving that one nation completely alone would be the best, all the way around. Let the Vietnamese find their own way. Western educated on the "important things" or not. Really not our place to be doing crap like this and especially not on Uncle's (OUR) dime, IMO. Nope.
