Alot of people around me have won big prizes and lots of small ones but im lucky enough to break even on a rare occasion.
A few years ago a family on my street won £6 million on the lottery, my mum has won £3k on the lottery her friend won £5k, 2 guys I know won £20k each, my dad won a car in a competition and my friends have all won £100+ prizes on scratch cards many times. Even in raffles down the local pub my dad and brother both won beer, wines, spirits and money.

I have played the lottery every week for 12 years and never even once won a prize higher than the cost of the tickets, same with scratch cards if I win it's the same value as the card cost and never a penny over, they have had a Christmas raffle in the pub every year I have bought tickets the last 3 years and won nothing every time while other people have prizes piling up on their table.

Even my dad was laughing at my bad luck in the casino on the roulette table I was only betting on red and black placed 10 bets and lost 10 bets in a row before I just gave up and went to the bar.

It also annoys me when I see a lottery winner on TV saying the only buy 1 ticket a year on their birthday and win like £10 million.

It's like I have 200% bad luck when it comes to winning things

The lottery is weighted against you winning (i was a lottery retailer for years so i'm used to the numbers)

I always remember chatting to a guy who at one point as was a pro card player and he said that theres days when you'll win and days when you won't and the trick is to know when your lucks good or bad and use it to your advantage (walk away when its bad and stay when its good)

but as to lottery scratch cards - there are 20% of each pack as winners now the winner could be the cards value or anything up to the top prize so with 120 cards per pack thats 24 cards that are winners and the rest are dross, we had people trying to card count thinking every 5th one was a winner and pretty much any other crackpot system

But if you seem to have systemic bad luck i'd take the hint and get a friend to always bet against you

Perhaps you are a good luck charm for others.

You absorb their bad luck.

You and I and millions of others feel the same way OP. Screw money anyway, it's only trees, metal and plastic, it's all made up.

I can offer you the idiot of the day award for this rant. You have won. You do know that you actually have to buy a lottery ticket or enter a contest to win?

I just won sixty bucks on a scratch off lottery ticket. It is the first time I have won in many months. I took the money and ran, I don't even feel like buying another ticket, it is the most costly form of entertainment I know. If you drink beer, you get some nutrition. If you go out and eat, you get fed. If you buy a lotto ticket you just gave your money to the state.

Gambling is for idiots.

Stand still hoping that money will come to you and 999'999'999 times out of a million you'll die waiting.

You did win something that alot of us take for granted.

I know you probably don't want to hear this but you won at life. You have the ability to type on a keyboard and express your beliefs to us. You can breath on your own. You wake up in the morning and have the ability to get out of bed. You can feel emotions. You can see the computer screen. You can taste.

You have the ability to do alot of things that I am sure alot of people can't.

Consider yourself lucky. You are living in one of the most controversial yet unbelievably fascinating times in human history. You don't need lottery winnings to win at that.

Besides, it can't rain all the time...and gambling is a joke.

That is the cycle. But to be here right now is a win. Period.

Anyone can win at the lotto or casino. It takes nothing but time and money. Mostly the more time and money spent, the more they win. Ask anyone who "wins" a thousand or more. They usually spent twice that just to "win" that amount. But they don't see it that way. All they know is they won something. Forget about how much it costs to get there.

Sure there are statistical anomalies that can hit a family randomly. Happens every once in a while here in the states. How can we call it luck when the odds are still there? It's not "luck" per say. By definition, someone will eventually win.

Just think of what you could have done with all of the cash you have wasted on raffles and lotteries and casino gambling.
The house always wins, and somebody has to pay to keep all of those shiny lights on.
They play on our greed, don't play their game and you win.

With you - which is why I rarely buy lottery tickets, or play the lottery. The most I've ever won was pulling a $25 dollar cashword.

In fact, I found a better lottery to play, known as the "look on the ground and pick up money" lottery - Seriously, I found $120 all at once (even turned it in, and had the police hold onto it an additional 3 months more than what they told me). Even right now, I have a "Chicago trip fund" that's made up of lose change, and half of it came from change that I just happen to find on the ground. Best part about it: No tax on my winnings

Gosh, I didn't know how bad I had it. No one around me has ever won anything significant from any lottery or contest and neither have I. I wish you hadn't told me how easy or common it is to win prizes. Now I feel like a loser, too. Thanks a lot.

Seriously, the odds of winning anything, even a drawing at the local bar, are really not in your favor. Don't feel so bad about it.

You cannot win if you don't play! You gotta keep at it. I have noticed that I don't win as much on scratch-offs. I hardly ever win, except for maybe the 1 or 2 bucks that I spent on it. This being said, about 4 years ago, I waltzed into a gambling place that had those video machines. I dropped $50 in it and max-betted every time. It finally hit and I came outta there with almost $1000. I hardly ever go into those places but I just felt compelled to go in there; I knew I was gonna win, I could feel it. But I want the big money. My last mega millions lottery ticket, I got two games on the same ticket. Both mega numbers were the same. Low and behold, they hit. I only won like $2 but I was like a camel on Wednesday "woo woo". Ya gotta keep trying even though it may never happen.

"Poverty is your treasure. Never exchange it for an easy life."

Have you ever heard of Zen Koans? You don't need to win, you don't need riches. You only need to realize you're sitting on a treasure chest and are unwilling to look into it.

Have you counted your blessings, do you know how much you are winning just being healthy? Look around and see how people are suffering. Do you have all your limbs? Can you see? Can you hear? You obviously can type - would you rather win the lottery and go blind or lose your typing ability?

You have already won, you just look in the wrong direction.

As the old saying goes, "If you cry for sun at night, you tears will prevent you from seeing the beauty of the stars."

If it makes you feel better, I've bought the same scratch ticket over and over since 2009, with a 1 in 3 chance of winning. I've literally never won once. Not even a buy back prize. I still buy the same ticket once a season as a joke so we can all laugh when I lose again.
