Are you:

A communist -- YES, and NO. Communism can work in small groups of Communes that contribute to the prosperity and well being of the Commune. The classical American Nuclear Family, for instance, is a Communist unit of one man, one woman, and 2.5 children.
On a state, national, or otherwise scale; NO.
Socialist programs have their place, as does a well regulated and taxed Market Driven Economy.
If we ever realize technological singularity with AI, Governance and Economic models are certain to change.

Fragile, Sensitive -- NO to both of these. Not in the least bit.

Only after Christians -- NO. Religious Fanaticism, and magical thinking in attempting to force mythologies that have no real bearing on reality onto reality, are, however, big problems.
The biggest offenders in these respects are the mythologies evolved from the Abrahamic traditions which include Judaism, Christianity, and Islam of all flavors.

Democrat, Republican, Independent, Libertarian, Tea Party -- NO; I don't self identify with any party. Most political systems are broken, especially so where party affiliations are more important than issues.

Gay -- NO

A gun owner -- YES

A business owner -- YES

A homeowner -- YES

A parent -- NO

Liberal, Conservative -- NO, NO, and YES, YES. It depends on the issue, and these terms are generally relative to the observer and position.

A veteran -- NO

A student -- NO

A couch-surfer -- NO

OTHER? -- Probably

Realist -- Sometimes

Free-thinking individual -- I like to think so.

Cynical godless b#####d -- Sometimes?

Since we're trying to lump people into categories, Christians were once called atheists. You all stand shoulder to shoulder under your little umbrellas.

Aphorism
Since we're trying to lump people into categories, Christians were once called atheists. You all stand shoulder to shoulder under your little umbrellas.

Which proves just how relative theism itself is.

I can't see that finding a tag on your list is beneficial to anyone except you so you can pigeon hole people.

As a typical response, I hope you get something such as this:

"None of your business, bub, except to say that I stand on my own two feet without the need of a crutch."

I'm an atheist when I feel forsaken...

I'm a Christian when I'm blessed....

But I'm a full time hedonist....

When I considered myself an Atheist I would have said I was a Liberal-Democrat, however, I never liked to stick to one ideology because I think everything had at least one good point, even the Nazi's managed to dig Germany out of a crazy economic disaster and gave people jobs (minus all the hatred, murder and tyranny and Hitler may have been a great leader(also not saying I ever considered myself a Nazi, just to clear up
)).

However I quickly found there was more to life and to believe that there is NOTHING after is a bit Nihilistic, because, whats the point?

I then became an agnostic and that's when I found Buddha, Buddha is NOT a God, you are not required to worship, only to show respect. The Four Nobel Truths and the Eightfold Path are what I do my best to live my life by (not overly successfully, but hey, who said doing good is easy!)

So call me what ever you will, a label is just for you and not me. I am myself and I live to do good for those who need it.

I am a solipsist. All that means is that I accept that only my own existence can be proven, and only to myself. That concept extends to everything I do though, it's the Golden Rule. I write as if I'm writing to myself. I try, at least, to treat others as if they were me. I am you, you are me. Only a fool stabs himself in the hand to hurt another.

That is where ethics come from, not a book.

-DISCLAIMER: This is not Berbishchanish, this is her husband (:

Hell no Im not communist, fragile or sensitive. Not only after Christians, they are just easy targets, but all fools who fall prey to religion/faith, or what I like to call false hope in a man-made dogma. Im not saying that other planes/dimensions dont exist, and there is most definitely "something" after death bc the law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it just changes form. What that "something" is, may or may not be a conscious existence, NO ONE KNOWS, leave it at that. If you want to know where your judeo-christian/Islamic faith came from, read the ancient Sumerian tablets of creation and the epic of Gilgamesh, great reads and you will notice, as with many writings of that time, it is stylized very similarly. Or if you want to read a very interesting and thought provoking take on spirituality, read the 13 emerald tablets of Thoth the Atlantean, it goes into detail about his early life to his enlightenment to his journey from Atlantis to how he raised the people of Khem(egypt) into a great people.

Not a democrat or a republican. I guess if you had to put a label on it, u could say liberal libertarian. hell no on the tea party. Im not homosexual, but who gives a s* who you sleep with. I personally don't own a gun, but you absolutely have the right to. I am a veteran, and not too proud to have participated in the killing of innocent ppl for oil/war profiteering in general. Don't hate the warrior, hate the shady power brokers and cronies who start these wars.

I love to snowboard and smoke and spend time with my wife, and want to be left the f* alone, so don't go around hating on other people's way of life. remember the cultural/linguistic/artistic diversity is a gem that all of us as humans should cherish and what makes our world so great. In a nutshell, quit killing each other and actually take the #ing advice of your Jesus/Buddha/Mohamed if you must follow a certain religion/philosophy.

How so? What makes Abrahamic offenses "bigger" than Dharmic ones?

You misunderstand.
I started this thread so that members who are not atheists could be educated about the 'stances' (if any) that atheists 'hold'.

It's very clear from the responses (from atheists) that anyone who tries to put a "label" on an atheist (or atheists in general, as others have done in other threads) does not have a grasp of the mindset. That was the whole point.

Please forgive any perceived insult....
I honestly was hoping to give our members who are atheists a chance/opportunity/venue to clarify for those who are not atheists, but think they know what "atheists" believe, what actually it is that atheist members believe.

Thx anyway for chiming in.
Glad you responded.

Very moving post. Thanks.

You've given one of the two most detailed answers here.
I'm getting the feeling that for some reason respondents are taking the "poll" OP as an attack...
it is NOT meant as an attack.

I hope you get applause for this response.

@Alice:
You, too.

Are Atheists Fragile, Sensitive, or a Communist?

I enough are at least sensitive and fragile enough to have my post, which was a minor, ironic jab at them for creating this thread, removed by the ptb here.

So, my on-topic answer to the poll is, yes. Enough are obviously at least fragile and sensitive.

Communist? Who knows?

Okay, so......

so far, we have "OTHER" as the predominant answer (which would include myob, nunya, and none of the above).

Just so all you non-atheist readers and members 'get it', there is no "label" or combination of "labels" that fit "atheists" as a collective, except, perhaps, that they don't care what you think they believe.

I'm kinda disturbed that this thread appears to have been taken the wrong way (as some sort of attack on atheists?? - not at all the intention!!!). And I guess I'm a bit sensitive on behalf of the misunderstood and mislabeled "atheists."

But, hey. If you guys and gals don't give a rip, neither will I!!!! Again, I'm thankful that you have come here to make it plain to non-atheists that no labels are appropriate!!

Peace.

I'm an Atheist and a pre medical student.

Labeling a whole crowd for not believeing something is childish.

There are people who say Atheists are heartless people who would let humans die like animals with no problem.

But at my house I don't kill insects or spiders that come inside. I catch them and take them outside so they can continue to live instead of me ending their life just because they happen to be inside the house.

Generalization is very childish. We can't say all Christians are something, all Atheists are something, all men are something, all women are something, etc.

People who generalize need to understand that each person in the world is unique.
