Personally ive always thought the whole idea of santa, some very large, drunk guy breaking into your house in the middle of the night for any reason
is a disturbing little tradition!

The Belshnickle". My grandmother told me stories how the family would get a friend or an uncle and he'd appear as sort of a dark version of Santa
Claus. He'd have the beard and a dirty face and be dressed in furs or old clothes and would mete out punishment to kids who had been bad. She said he
tossed peanuts on the floor and when she went to pick them up he hit her with a switch. Then he'd have a drink provided by the father and would get
more nasty the more liquored up he got as he travelled around from house to house. Parents were hard on their kids back then but it was all in good
fun. Yeah, right.
