I dont see the worry. China are not stupid they would not fire on a US or Japanese vessel or aircraft. There is no way they could win a Air or Naval conflict. It would end the same way the falklands did for Argentina.

Unless they have a surprise we dont know about.

Not so much anymore. At one point yes, but the BUFF is longer in the tooth than a lot of people on ATS. It could do a lot of damage to China, but it would get slaughtered doing it, without a lot of help that would be difficult to provide.

It would only get slaughtered if alone and if it where used for deep penetrating attacks at the beginning of a conflict which will be left to stealth aircraft. Initial it would serve as a standoff cruise missile platform able to reach far into China which China cannot match currently. Some chance a few Chinese fighters could hit a few buffs but not likely in a standoff role.

As of today, there has been no military conflict over these disputed islands. So I'd say the US gov might be jumping the gun here...but more importantly...why not try and use diplomacy? Why is it always the US's first reaction to take an agressive posture?

I guess when the only tool you have is a hammer....everything starts to look like a nail.

Because sometimes you have to puff out the chest and go strutting down the street before your rival takes your attempts at diplomacy seriously. China is testing the US resolve, well even the worlds resolve at this point. The US response was the most appropriate for the situation.

Even as a missile truck the BUFF isn't a first wave aircraft anymore, especially in the Pacific. Her escorts would have to travel so far to reach the launch area their pilots wouldn't be in much shape for a protracted engagement, which is exactly what they'd be facing.

That kind of 'news' is more propaganda for local consumption with the explicit intention of solidifying / fermenting nationalistic fervour. Hence the source disseminating it.

The chances of China actually engaging a Japanese craft, much less an American one, are snowflake's. ...At least for now.

I don't think they cann't fire.

It is just that this face-off serves the purpose for now, as China acts boldly to increase its sphere of influence.

China already occupied some islands that is within the economic zone of the Philippines and thousands of miles away from China. The Philippines can't do anything about it since China has the military might to do it and the Philippines can only watch helplessly what China is doing.

It is not something generally spoken but... the US has ... call them (or did have) intelligence monitoring stations in the Philippine Spratleys. We/us/they have been there since the start of the Cold war and as far as I know (I could be wrong, tho), there is at least one US station still active in that cluster.

Impossible.

They would know full well that as soon as they open fire they can wave goodbye to there airforce.

In 10 years time that might change but for now it would be insane beyond North Korea Insane.

What our little Mandarin economic partners fail to realize is that if we go to war with them, we will not be trying to win the hearts and minds of the Chinese people. At least not at first anyway. Once the PLA is wiped from the face of this Earth, then negotiations, and some reasonable aid will follow. I respect the Chinese, but we are not going to lay down for them if they are going to be ungrateful and forget how we saved them from eternal Japanese subjugation.

Also, any attack or invasion will be nothing like Iraq, it will be lethal and very brutal. Iraq was like an NFL team practicing for the real deal. That is what these anti-American idiots abroad do not comprehend. Dresden will look like a girl scout picnic. Sorry, we are not going to allow China to rape the worlds oceans and overall resources. This planet is for all peoples.

And yes, We know all about your sneaky little underground tunnels, and what is going on deep down there thanks to our loyal Chinese spies who appreciate being paid a reasonable wage, on top of many other benefits and luxuries that come along with assisting us blood thirsty Americans. ~$heopleNation

We would not know until there is real war.

It is hard to know about China as Chinese are so secretive. But there is good reason to believe they have modernized their military.

I agree my friend. Remember though, Obama is only hanging from the puppet masters strings. So with that being said, that was nothing more than a temporarily orchestrated change of foreign policy. Soon, it will be back to business as usual.

Not that it ever really ended anyway which anyone could see with the Syria war drums that were beating but have all of a sudden vanished from media coverage now that strings decided to pull up into another direction. ~$heopleNation

US forces are vulnerable in that part of the world. The Chinese are quite strong being close proximity and the weapons that they displayed so far are enough to deter the US from having any silly thoughts. LMAO! You should probably educate yourself about how many bases and allies that we have very near by my friend. Our bases in South Korea and Japan alone would take care of the problem, let alone the various others surrounding Red China. We could also easily starve them with an economic embargo, as well as a Naval blockage.

Not that I want to see any of this happen, I am just saying make no mistake about it, China is no military threat to us other than their Nukes, which we would shoot most out of the sky with our black space star wars programs. Unlike you though, The Chinese are no fools, they already know all of this.

We also have Nuclear Subs that will cancel any of this other nonsense out when it's all said and done. Japan, the rest of the Pacific, and our allies will be defended, Period. ~$heopleNation

Count your chickens all you like little man. I do not have to personally thump my own chest about anything, because everything that I said about our Military capability is the truth. So skip along and go play RISK or some other game where your fantasies and delusions about real warfare come true. LMAO! ~$heopleNation

Seoul eyes extension of its air defense identification zone

South Korea will confirm this week an expansion of its air defense identification zone in the East China Sea as a response to China's expansion of its zone, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Seoul will notify neighboring countries of the details this week before making a formal announcement, government officials said.

Taiwan military jets fly into overlapping zone with China

Taiwan said Monday its military planes have made about 30 flights into a part of China's newly declared air defence zone which overlaps a similar Taiwanese zone.

China's unilateral announcement on November 23 of an Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the East China Sea has angered the United States, Japan and South Korea as well as Taiwan

www.spacedaily.com...

Last month Beijing declared an Air Defence Identification Zone, or ADIZ, over the East China Sea, including the disputed chain, in which it warned all aircraft had to obey Chinese orders or face unspecified "defensive emergency measures".

The US, Japan and South Korea, angry at the declaration, have all sent military or paramilitary aircraft into the zone since.

Analysts point out that Tokyo and Washington appear at odds over instructions to their airline flying over the zone, with Tokyo telling its firms they should not comply and the US advising American companies that they should.

The US Navy has deployed sophisticated surveillance aircraft to Japan, officials said Monday, amid rising tension over China's territorial claims in the region.

Two P-8A Poseidon patrol jets departed Jacksonville, Florida on Friday and arrived later at Kadena air base in Okinawa, in a move that was planned before Beijing declared an air defense zone last month covering disputed islands in the East China Sea, a navy official told AFP.

"This was scheduled for a long time," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity

The US and its allies, Japan and South Korea, have dealt with the latest Chinese gambit in a robust and proper fashion: sending their aircraft squarely through the zone without informing Beijing, and insisting that it should resolve these disputes through negotiation. But China cannot rescind the zone, nor Japan accept it as a fait accompli, without each provoking outrage from nationalist constituencies at home. Already, Washington has irked Tokyo by instructing its civilian airliners to comply with China’s rules. It is understandable that the US has no wish to risk a downed passenger jet, but it should have requested compliance only for those aircraft bound for China. Beijing cannot be allowed to think that it can gain advantage in disputes by reckless, unilateral measures.

No breakthrough in talks between US and China over air identification zone

Chinese President Xi Jinping and US Vice President Joe Biden traded strong arguments on Wednesday over China's contentious new air identifiction zone, with no indication of progress toward defusing the situation

Not much overt movement from any of the multifaceted sides as of yet; probing and testing IMO. No doubt plans are being made under the radar but you have to wonder at times if the blind is not leading this parade and a wrong turn is quite possible..

Anyway that is about all I found worth mentioning and even at that it ain't much.

Calling you a little man is not name calling, I guess I nailed it eh?

Just the same, disagreeing with you about China's true military power is not derailing this thread.

Actually, it's right on topic, so calm down now. ~$heopleNation
