You are correct!
But in the American empire this does not seem to be the case.
It would seem the emperor is always looking for ways to cheat the praetorians.
Somebody is really pushing for a revolution, I'm just glad the real patriots don't flinch.

They could not build a few missiles, a fighter or two, a tank or two, and save the same money.

They could STOP paying foreign countries BILLIONS and save the commissaries.

But no.

Make it hurt. Isn't that what Obama said during the shut-down?

Say it 3 times really fast and maybe you will believe it. But, back on topic, it is all just the military chiefs messing with the politicians. The Commissary is not going to get shut down. Just being used as a pawn.

Look, the Republicans forced Sequestration on us

uhh remind me what party passed Sequestration in the Senate and what President signed the bill into law? Lets face it, when the D's don't want a bill to become law they certainly know how to prevent it.

I'm personally not blaming either, or rather I am blaming both. The point I was making is that the leadership is pointing to this as being in response to the cuts "forced" by the republicans.

The DoD realizes that this funding can be cut with little to no complaining. They've been slowly doing it for years. And after all the current retirees die off, just think of all the money that they'll save for their precious R&D programs.

When I was in the Army, I shopped at the commissary a lot.
The prices were MUCH better than the grocery stores.
And considering my enlisted income .... every penny helped.

When living in Japan, it would have been impossible to shop out on the economy.
Tokyo prices for food ... YIKES!
The commissaries need to stay open. At the very least, the overseas ones do.

ya I couldnt agree more....certain economies would allow this but there are several places bases are at where the economy options would be pretty pricey. I loved the commissary! I was usually in the field on my deployments so when I came back to a base it was such a nice pleasure to have access to the real world again.

It sounds a whole lot like attacking the Food Stamp program (70-100 billion) in a 6 trillion government budget. Inflicting pain seems to be the point, not saving money. The Pentagon spending hovers between 600 and 700 billion dollars........and they want to attack pennies on the dollars within something that actually WORKS and makes a quality of life issue for the men and women?

Shame on every last one of them. It could almost be called aid and comfort to people we aren't supposed to be comforting when we do things that directly brings down the morale of our side while hostilities are still very much ongoing. (on both sides).

It's a warning shot to the government. If you cut defense department spending, we'll cut the commissaries, and you'll be forced to spend extra money on food stamps instead otherwise you will have riots.

Now that every government department sees that food and water can be used as a political weapon, the administration is in for "interesting times".

Yeah so what . Why should they get discounts on items everyone else has to pay full price for . Plus there is this new thing they could use to get bargains . people call it the internet and you are to shop on it and even have what you buy shipped anywhere in the world . Amazing times we live in .

Yes, Uhbuma, wants to destroy America and continue to build his Stalinist "Amerika",
by dismantling and degrading the US military. Sadly, his insidious plan of infiltrating his brown shirts into the DHS/TSA and other alphabet organizations, is working. And the sheeple are no different than the frogs in a pot of water. Here is what the Judge had to say.

Been away for a while, good to see you again Beez, and Happy Thanksgiving

Excellent Post...S & F. I totally agree that the US DOD is more interested in killing innocent people abroad and funding Al Queda than they are in looking after the very people who risk their life for their country. One only need look at the dismal treatment that soldiers recieve when they try to collect VA benefits...ect.

It begs the question....why would anyone want to risk life and limb for a country that would lie (Iraq) and decieve their soldiers into going to war? Given all the other indignities that soldiers suffer such as the OP mentioned, I'm surprised anyone still enlists.

What the heck! Why does the government insist on making life more difficult for the average person, but not cut its out of control funding for research projects? THAT is where the cuts need to be made. The government has no clue how to take care of its soldiers and when they become veterans, they just straight up hate them.

You're surprised?

We gotta keep those food stamp printers running at full bore for the democrats' eating and breeding constituents. There isn't much left after you let 47% of the population get their free lunch.

They're already rubbing their hands over ending the GI Bill and retirement benefits, too. They'll start a 401K for you though, as if you'd have any money to put in it as a private or specialist.
