Yes, all.

No person born into a modern country nowadays should be given the choice : pay or die.

Um. Okay. Not used to dealing with this level of honesty. So you want to scrap the whole system and have government mandates.

Good for you.

Me? I'm going to fight it. Just as you made your position clear, so will I. I firmly believe in self-determination. Individuality. If I want to charge a rate for my services, I should be free to do so. The market will either support me or kick me to the street.

My choice.

My decision.

Not the governments.

But can you not see that this greed is what has upset this country? It's fine when a single person chooses to charge 100x what a product or service should charge. But what about when companies and corporations and EVERYONE begin doing this? Without wages inflating to meet this onslaught?

What greed? If we didn't keep "buying" then they would have to stop selling!

You get housing contractors who price their houses at $500000 when it only costs $100000 to build and make a profit. You have everyone raising their price to "what the market can bear" which means what the upper-middle class and rich can bear.

So?

You get the little guys priced out of everything and beginning to grumble because they don't know WHAT is wrong, but they can sense SOMETHING is wrong.

So the "little guy" is stupid?

So I amend what YOU can charge for your service, it's just that society should set what we deem a FAIR price for any services or products.

Screw society. That's just another damned word for the "collective" or the "hive".

Rock on! Keep your group-think.

Not for me.

Dctors get paid so much because there is no free market when it comes to medical care.
The fees are all set by insurance companies and the government is lobbied hard by medical groups.
When was the last time you could shop around for a doctor for a procedure?

There are several orthopedists in town and you can shop around. They all give discounts for cash because there is much less hassle with cash. Of course, they cannot dictate what the cost of the materials are, but they do give a large discount for their labor.

Trouble is, a lot of people want their healthcare to be "free," IE paid for by someone else and you have socialists who want the government to control it and you have people who want to sue for millions for everything and anything governmental regulations and guess what cost goes up.

Tort reform would drive down the cost...but people want to be able to sue.

Getting government out of regulation of insurance, allowing a true free market of insurance across state lines and competition like car insurance, and cost will go down...but people want to do away with "evil corporations."

Reform/eliminate the FDA and costs will go down...but people want government to regulate things into oblivion.

There are many, many free market solutions that would make things more affordable and widely available except that would be totally against the principles of statist big government fans. Self responsibility and individual freedom is an anathema to them.

Why not do it for free, if it is the for the good of society? That is the same principle in action--you just get upset when people point out the poor logic of it.

What do you charge for a resume? Whatever it is, it is too high and unfair because poor people who most need a resume to get a job are least likely to afford you so we, as a society, think you should only charge $1, who cares how many hours it takes you to make a good one, we should only permit you to charge $1. It is for the good of society.

Nope. I've been to many a VA. Only an idiot prefers VA care to civilian care. Now you blanch at the COST, you prefer the COST of VA care over civilian care, but you get what you pay for. You just don't like paying for a service...rather hypocritical since you charge for a service.

I know an individual who charges $1000 for what you (seem to ) do and he gets it because he has the clout, connections, and experience that make something with his touch worth it. Perhaps you can't get more than $300 for your product because you don't produce one that is worth it.

I get it, you don't want to pay for someone's service so you want to force them to work "for the good of society."

What's poor logic is the suggestion anyone is being asked to work for free...

Most of my resumes actually are free as I work for a non-profit and only charge for resumes on the side.

If society deemed resumes to only be worth $1 then so be it.

The individual you know who charges $1000 is guilty of what has destroyed this country (and is enticing to greedy people in other countries). He has found a niche of people who have it and WILL pay this and he is taking advantage of them. As someone who writes resumes...LOL.....there is NO WAY IN HAIL...it can ever be worth $1000!!!!

I mean thank you for that as it is EXACTLY WHAT DESTROYED OUR COUNTRY!

You are such a contradiction in terms. You work for an non-profit (how am I not surprised by that...some leftist "community organizer" perhaps?) and charge for resumes on the side? Why not do them for free just like you do at the non-profit? You must be greedy and money hungry! HOW DARE YOU! How dare you charge some people for something you do for free to other people.

The very way you think this was shows you haven't a clue about medicine...I give away a lot of my services for free too...from operation smile to volunteer clinics, but screw me if I don't want to be a slave to the state.

Society does have a way of controlling wages--the free market. The further you distance things from the free market the worse it gets.

Bull#...people gaining skills and providing goods and services that people want is WHAT MADE THIS COUNTRY. It is SOMETHING FOR NOTHING FREELOADERS like yourself that have DESTROYED THIS COUNTRY. THANK YOU FOR BEING A DRAIN ON SOCIETY AND A BURDON TO THE PRODUCTIVE.
edit on 5-11-2013 by NavyDoc because: (no reason given)

Yes I am a contradiction as most of us are...we can't help it our screwed up society forces us to be. In a thousand years when we get rid of people like you and others who refuse to give up our current primitive way of living which involves everyone working away their lives when we could actually do things much more efficient.

I like nice things and vacations so yes I do have side hustles...

I'm aware that many medical professionals give away free services and charities...unfortunately what they give from their heart isn't sufficient to take care of a society. Thousands of people needing medical attention can't wait and hope for charity.

Societies way of controling prices (free markets) has been compromised and perverted.

Correction: People gaining skills and providing services AT A FAIR PRICE is what made this country.

Is there a choice when you have to pay or die?

For me it seems more as blackmail. In a hostage situation, there is also choice, either you pay/do what the criminal wants or die.

Human life should not have financial value...Every person deserves life the same, whether homeless person, teacher, plumber or a CEO.

Fortunately your way of thinking (screw society) is dying and being replaced by those who realize that like it or not we are a collective. We can then begin to move forward once the dinosaurs are extinct.

I think we both agree there should be a lot less government involvement when it comes to medical care.
I am afraid that ACA will cause the actual costs of medical procedures to skyrocket. However, some people will celebrate because only the people paying taxes will be the ones footing the bill.
On the other hand, it cause people to start calling for a "single payer system", which would also be a disaster for everyone involved.

Good. Because the only way it would happen is over my dead body.

This collective "tripe" has been done to DEATH in places like Cuba, North Korea, The former USSR.

They sure turned out great! Didn't they?

Yeah, call me when you know anything about being a builder. You are responsible for the whole job. You have to go through mounds of licenses and insurances to make sure they are kosher. You also have to know how to build a house. Everything, framing, plumbing, electrical work, everything. You have to make sure it is all done right, and to code with where ever you are building. Guess who gets their ass sued off if. There is a reason people hire builders to do it for them, too much headache for someone that don't know how to use a hammer to supervise a job they have no idea how to do.

Don't about where you are at, but builders in NY weren't coming near to earning no 400%. Try 20-60%, 60% is they were the ones putting up the money solo, and didn't have a rich ass silent partner to put up the front money. And we are not talking raised ranches here, we are talking houses that take like a year at least start to finish.

Correct?

It's a stop gap because most people in our country would go crazy if we suddenly adopted Universal Healthcare.

Why would you not be for Universal Healthcare?

Don't worry about those doctors who would jump out of the business because they won't become millionaires over night. Others who become doctors to treat and cure people will replace them.

This ACA is only designed to crash this system and force us to Universal Healthcare, which is what we should have supplemented by insurance for those who can afford it.

"Pay or die"...such drama, such drivel. If you do not eat, you will not live...no one should have to pay for food. If you have no shelter, you will not live...no one should have to pay for shelter. Calling healthcare professionals criminals and hostage takers? Stupid leftist propaganda. Want to help people afford healthcare? Stop the leftist, collectivist claptrap and there will be opportunity and people will better be able to afford what they want in life, regardless what it is. Collectivism is a race to the bottom and nobody wins. Your belief system is what keeps people, all people, down.

My ingrained individualism makes me want to be free to do as I choose. Granted, there are some laws that all should follow, but I want to be free to express myself as I see fit.
I do not want to be a part of the borg collective where I feel many are working towards a goal I do not condone. So why should I be forced to participate in something I do not agree with? Why should I forgo my unique ideals?

“No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit.” - Ansel Adams
