FBI Loses Out on Chance to Question Accused LAX Gunman

"(Reuters) - FBI aOn Monday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Charles Eick granted a public defender's office request seeking appointment as legal counsel for Ciancia on a provisional basis, over the objections of the U.S. Attorney's Office."

"Federal prosecutors argued in a court brief that the "practical effect of appointing counsel at this time ... would be to prevent the government from questioning Ciancia, as he would then be a represented party."gents investigating last week's deadly Los Angeles airport shooting have lost their chance to question the accused gunman, if and when he regains consciousness, now that a public defender has been appointed to represent the suspect, court documents show."

"A day after the shooting, Ciancia was formally charged with murdering a federal officer and committing an act of violence at an international airport. But his medical condition has so far prevented him from making an initial court appearance, or from being interviewed since being taken into custody."

"With the public defender's office now assigned to Ciancia, "they'll be sitting by his side as soon as he starts blinking his eyes, telling him 'Don't say a word, keep your mouth shut,'" said Steve Cron, a private criminal defense lawyer who also teaches at Pepperdine University law school."

"Moreover, the seeming abundance of eyewitnesses to the shooting makes it less crucial than it might otherwise be for prosecutors to try to obtain a confession from the suspect."

If he survives it sounds like they plan on convicting him based on eyewitness accounts alone. And there have been widely different descriptions of the gunman or gunmen.

Good! People should not be questioned /interrogated without being made aware of their rights. Much like with Tsarnaev, what accurate information does law enforcement think they'll get from someone hopped up on pain killers in a hospital bed ...

What's the latest news on this production? I haven't heard a peep about the CIAnCIA shooter suspect. Is he dead yet? Why is there nothing on the news? Did they think we forgot about their fake drill/exercise already?

Last I heard the suspect was no longer in serious condition and was healing. So they probably won't be able to kill him in his hospital bed.

Well his name is CIAnCIA. I suspect that because this is the 1st TSA guy shot, that he's facing double secret federal charges x 2 because it was in an airport, the marshal has to take him. He will probably never be heard from again. Sounds like they're laying on the amount of times the guy was shot kind of heavy. 12 times? I don't believe that! It doesn't match up with the original witness accounts of hearing 4 or 5 shots! So deep is the bs.

This is exactly what happened to that Boston 'bombing" suspect. He was taken from the hospital to a federal facility, where they'll probably do a chemical lobotomy before he'll appear in court.

The sources said Paul Anthony Ciancia, 23, was released from Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center on Monday and taken to the federal facility. He has not been scheduled for a court date.
