Like the thread said, but it was a number from nabraska (402)779-7710. It was an automated message that said "the fbi has issued that there have been break-ins in your area every 15 seconds and would like to know if you would like a sign in your yard saying you have security." I hung up but was wondering if anyone else got a weird call like that as well? Also I live in Raleigh, NC.

I realize that this probably belongs in another forum but I am not sure which one.

Yes I get those damned calls too. I'm sure they are out to sell something and I always hang up on them. And I am in Rhode Island.

Never heard of anything like that but if that happened to me I'd be calling the fbi office and letting them know how uncool (to be nice) that is if you get my drift. Of course that might lead to you getting a black hood pulled over your face and being moved to a "secure" location. You probably need the protection anyways right? (Cough sarcasm)

Well I typed in the number in google search and it seems like the calls have started to go around the US starting october 21st. Apparently if you listen long enough it says to press 9 to be taken off the calling list.

It's a security company trying to get you to buy an alarm system. No wonder they keep calling...people think there is something legit because they mention the FBI...they are probably rolling in the sales with all the maroons that exist.
,,,think people!

The companys name might be F.B.I. and the prey upon the majority of people whose absolute acceptance of anything vaguely resembling authority makes their job easy for them.

Turn on call forwarding

Then set it up so this number gets forwarded to the FBI office :-)
Or look up the company's owner and find a number and call forward to him.

Also just like signing people up for spam on porn sites go to mortgage/real estate/time share/cruise websites and put their phone number in as interested for either info.

Then hour can DOS their phones, and if they have a 1-800 number call it and set phone in counter and let it stay open if it's an automated 800 number. The reason is 1 800 numbers work exactly like a collect call. The longer you are on the lime with a 800 number the more they pay which is reason call centers get you off the line quickly and work from scripts

Someone phone DOS'ing for payback.Set their number up with NAMBLA requesting further info.

lulz

These have been going around for a while, it's just some scam like the multitudes of others that go around. If they call you again just hang up.

Obviously it's an alarm company trying to sell a security system. The FBI doesn't sell security systems or signs suggesting a security system.

we get them all the time here in San Antonio.

They 'offer' to give you a complete security system absolutely free, at no cost or charge, if you will let them place a sign in your yard.

the catch is when you set up an appointment , then they come on with the hard sell once in the door.

scammers. the lot of them.

This is a very old con. Want to dig deeper? Look into police associations and how they raise money through third parties.

Personally, I wouldn't even touch it (publicly). I don't mind pointing you in the right direction as it's not a secret, and the official story can be used as rebuttal to any insinuation (such as my own) but if you look, you will find.

It's a scam, and nothjng to do with the FBI.
The FBI is too busy arresting members of occupy Wallstreet and anonymous, to worry about citizens having their homes broken into .
