Mankind finally did it.

We have expanded our reach outside of our home solar system.

The debate is over. The venerable Voyager 1 spacecraft has entered the uncharted territory of interstellar space.

This is pretty awesome.
They say it happened around August 25th when the probe was around 18,000,000,000 km from the Sun.

“This is a milestone,” says Ed Stone, a physicist at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, who has been the project scientist for the Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft since 1972, five years before their launch. Voyager 1’s entry into interstellar space “ranks with circumnavigating the globe and the first steps on the Moon,”

I'm excited to see what unexpected things it will encounter in the upcoming weeks, months and years.

Is the Oort cloud not part of the Solar System, then?

I'd like to see the official definition for where the Solar System ends and interstellar space begins...

I was kinda hoping something kooky would happen after it exited the Heloshock. Like it suddenly disappeared or stopped signalling or something. And that actually our solar system is a bubble that distorts the universe...but no such luck.

Well, my idea that it would fall down off the wall of the fishbowl and hit the table isn't panning out. I only have a thousand other ideas to explore.
