Hello good people of ATS,

I've been meaning to start a thread on this for a while and have now finally got around to doing so. Basically on the 25th of May 2012, i took my daughter to the park and took some pictures par the norm. Upon inspection later I noticed a disc shaped anomaly in this photo here taken at 15:09:08 (image resized for thread purposes, the original can be found here)

Top right I noticed this

I also have a photo taken 3 seconds earlier at 15:09:05 that doesn't contain the anomaly (original can be found here)

All pictures were taken on my old Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000

So an object appears in 1 photo, but not the other even though they were taken only 3 seconds apart. So any ideas as to what this is? Camera glitch? Bird?

You decide

King

Great pic...it's just so faint and blurry though. Really hard to make any conclusion about this.

After adjusting contrast etc,
Looks like an airplane.

Quite possibly

While there are airports nearby (I'm located in Gosport, Hampshire) I think the angle of trajectory is too steep.

Taken at 1/100 of a second is a pretty slow shutter speed. Plenty slow enough to blur a dragon fly and make it look like a blurry line. You can even make out its wings at the top of their stroke.

Certainly a possibility

There are a lot of these images posted here on ATS, and I think the main consensus is that they are birds. When their wings are together, and they are photographed from a distance, they appear to be disk shaped.
But you never know.
My opinion is a bird. Hard to tell exactly how far away it is from the camera, but looks a little to distant to be a bug.

Exactly what I guessed. It looks distant, rather than a bug closer to the POV. I would guess a bird, but since we have no additional information, it's an unidentified aerial (flying) object - a UFO.

Good call on the lens speed as evidence of the object's potential "birdness".

Airplane. You can just about make out the downward lines over what would be wings...and it appears to me to be going rt to lt.

I would say given the blurry shape of it, it's probably a bird caught mid-dive. I've been trying to take pictures of the Swallows outside my house with my phone camera just on normal settings, and I come out with these kind of blurs cos they just move too quickly for the exposure.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the comments guys, its good to get some different opinions. I'm still not convinced its a plane because of the steep angle of ascent/descent.

Looking at the exif data see below the shutter speed was 1/904 th of a second not 1/100th as someone said so I don't think its a plane in the distance at that shutter speed the object should look more defined ie no blur due to motion.

Here is the object up close with adjusted contrast.

Now as the object appears to be moving across the field of view of the camera a fast flying object close to it would require a faster shutter speed to have no blur so I think it's an insect.

Thank you for your contribution, top work my friend

I'm now leaning towards it being a bug also. Shame, I'd hoped it might be less easily explained

Almost 1/1000 of a second will freeze a jet dead, this would have to be traveling 1000s of miles an hr to be displayed this way. Learn some basic photography then come back k?
