I like the gold color...and it looks better in 5/3 dark and light...IMHO

Almost all look better on the dark screen, but not all on the white screen.
The first original batch of green ones looked equally good on either background as does the blue.

Try the original greens in the new ATS blue, see how those look.

I'm thinking if you squint the eyes a bit more, they'd appear a bit alien looking. Would SO go for an alien emoticon set? Would it be popular with the members? I think such would fit.

Nice color combinations, but try the current blue to see what they look like.

How awesome would alien emotes be? The traditional 'Grey' shape and eyes with different expressions?!

I'm seeing it with the same color as normal emotes (I really don't like the weird colors). Basically a normal emote, maybe a little bigger with a pointed chin and almond eyes. Would have to be bigger than normal actually, but not too much bigger.

I think it would be fun. If SO is game and it's not too much of a pain (I'm a rapper) maybe we could have a little design competition for holidays too. Like for christmas a Santa alien, a turklien for Thanksgiving, Uncle Samlien... I know that the new design is intended to make the site look more 'legit' and attract some new and different people, but alien emotes would be a fun way of not taking ourselves too seriously.

while i didn't rebuilt exactly as Loam did, while i was bored i decided to get fairly close, and then meter down to 32X32. A few of them:



















Perhaps loam will return over the next couple of days. He has a knack for these. I bet his alien emotes would look good.

Theyll need to be scaled down a bit more. They are 47X47 currently.

This is all fantastic work guys, really. I'm super excited to see what the final product will look like. It's really refreshing to have a member driven project that will contribute to the board for a very long time.
