Simples really. This propaganda can only affect you if you turn it on. I think here at ATS we're going to find ourselves "denying ignorance" more in the future and helping the general population figure out what's true and what's not. I'm looking forward to the propaganda machine, the entertainment value should be sky high.

A bit more on this as it really hasn't been covered by the MSM and it took a bit of digging to find out what law was actually changed and the reasoning behind it. The law that was repealed via the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013 was originally adopted in 1948. It was know as the US Information and Educational Exchange Act of 1948 and also know as the Smith–Mundt Act or Public Law 80-402. Here's the Wiki article explaining it's original purpose and the various amendments that have altered it through the years.

Here's one link where it's being discussed and debated at the Heritage Foundation. Understanding the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act

I guess we can draw our own conclusions as to why it was repealed via the NDAA at this point in history.

I didn't think I'd live to see it. With my kind of self abuse as a younger
lad, nor did many o' my friends! LOL

Bumped as much as possible, Bilk.. and yet another stout vindication
for my tipping the cathode ray goob into the dumpster over two years ago.
Still thinking that was maybe five to seven overdue from this..OMG.

If taxpayers are knowingly paying taxes for misinformation or outright
lies through a utility they're payin' on after taxes, = Double OMG.

Zappa was so right--"The Federal Government is the entertainment arm
of the military-industrial complex." Maybe Tipper stepped into that one...

Yes, but by Default.

Had Romney won, by this day. July 15, 2013.
The death toll of Allied Forces would be prob over 80,000.
Iranian Civilian Death Numbering over 1 Million.
Dick Cheney would have left the Millionaire Club, and have a seat at the Billion Club as Blackwater , Xe .. would be paid from Black Project Slush Funds.
Gas would be at 12 dollars a Gallon, and the US Bogged down in its 4th quarter of Recession.
Israel would have used Tactical Nukes on the Iranian Research sites, but the Blame would have been put on Iranian Mishandling of their Nuclear Stockpiles.

So ya, You call me an Obama Supporter. I call myself a Sanity Supporter.

sanity....yeah, because what we have now is sane as a motherf**ker

choosing the lesser of two evils is still a dumb ass move...Obama is a liar, a fraud, and a hell of a lousy president.

btw...Cheney is halliburton, not blackwater...

the rest is speculation.....love how you ignored the rest of my post...good job...

Get ready to never believe anything you read in the news or watch on t.v. again.

LOL

I had already assumed the propaganda machine was running full steam as it was. Repealing something they are doing anyway.

It is funny how everything is awesome about the administration when it supports your political viewpoint, that freedoms are being curtailed is insignificant. Wonder how your tune will change when a Republican becomes President. Suddenly I bet things won't be so radical.

I haven't been here long enough - How was ATS when Bush Jr was president?

My new phase, "welcome to Obamaland!" Someone has to vote this nut case out of office quickly. He really may be the anti-Christ. His actions are all anti American. Why? What is his end game?

I don't see why ATS would be surprised. According to this site, most of what the government says is "Propaganda". Oh well, just another thing for conspiracy theorists to whine about.

I see the sheeple are out to graze, move along, nothing to see here......

Won't make any difference to me. I already considered everything in the msm propaganda.

Thank you Bilk22 for starting this thread and keeping it updated. Star & Flag

I don't normally comment outside of the Fragile Earth forum, but between this and the NSA revelations my hackles are up and I can't stop myself from commenting.

Did anyone else read the USA Today article (dated 19 April 2013) linked from the late Michael Hastings' Buzzfeed article posted on page 1 of this thread?

Hastings' article states

In an apparent retaliation to the USA Today investigation, the two reporters working on the story appear to have been targeted by Pentagon contractors, who created fake Facebook pages and Twitter accounts in an attempt to discredit them.

In the USA Today article, the author Gregory Korte states:

If the websites were created using federal funds, it could violate federal law prohibiting the production of propaganda for domestic consumption.

Reread that last phrase, "it could violate federal law prohibiting the production of propaganda for domestic consumption."

Now, since the adoption of the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2012 , it will be entirely legal for the State Department to use fake websites, blogs and forum posts to ruin reputations at will.

All in the name of national security, of course:

“Effective strategic communication and public diplomacy should be front-and-center as we work to roll back al-Qaeda’s and other violent extremists’ influence among disaffected populations,”
This was according to one of the bills sponsers, Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA). The other sponser was Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX). source of quote

I used to think the "paid shill" label thrown around here was stupid; not only was I the stupid one, it's now perfectly legal.

My only consolation is that this propaganda repeal does not apply to the Pentagon....oh, who am I kidding, no one can stop them from joining in--they have already been knee deep in 'swaying public opinion'.

Why don't we just change the name of the USA to INSOC and get it over with.

Thanks. Yeah it's all quite disheartening. To think, they expect us to believe this change is to keep us better informed through more transparency - well that's how they explained it

I think we're closer to what ever end they have planned, than ever before. Maybe they're waiting for the last of the Greatest Generation to pass. My dad is 94. A WW2 vet. I think he sees the writing on the wall too.

hmm......let's see..

firstly, it's "Ingsoc", not "Insoc"...and that stands for "English Socialism"

As stated above, English Socialism (INGSOC) is a system of governance (socialism), not a place...

the closest equivalent would be "American Socialism" (AMSOC), but again, it'd be a system of governance, not an actual name of a place..

i understand, and appreciate the sentiment, but you really ought to have at least a basic handle on the material you choose to reference, when trying to make a point..

It almost seems as if they are trying to see if anything they could ever possibly do would cause massive numbers of people to start waking up.

I can almost see some nameless people behind the scenes sitting around sipping their morning coffee and making bets on whether or not anyone would give a damn if they did this or that.
