Looks like a big one. Hope there aren't too many casualties. A correspondent for BBC Persian in Pakistan, says the quake was felt in the cities of Karachi and Quetta.

7.8....that's pretty big, right? The news article says that at least 37 people were killed and 850 wounded in a 6.3 magnitude quake in south-west Iran on 10 April.

7.8 is indeed big, but to give that some context, you'd expect at least one earthquake of that magnitude to happen somewhere on earth at least once a month. So, it's big-ish, but not uncommon.

Looking at Google Earth, the area is sparsely populated too so hopefully no major loss of life from this. However, being quite a shallow quake, at 15KM depth, it will probably have been felt across a large area and have more effect than one occuring much deeper.
