That won't work either.

So you buy her a new house.

She will complain about packing
She will complain about moving
She will complain about unpacking

She will settle down fo a week and then from then on it will be your fault for causing her all this extra work to clean this huge place, what the hell was wrong with that old place and while we are on the subject what happened to that clunky dishwasher you got from the disreputable person. You should have known better.

Well, it seems that Big houses are a little too expensive for me at the moment.

Are they expensive because they have big kitchens and fancy dishwashers?

Or do they have big kitchens and fancy dishwashers because they are expensive?

It was very nice of you to get her a dishwasher...however based on the pic you provided it does look like it makes getting in the laundry room harder...lol..it blocks half the doorway! That would get annoying with arm loads of laundry.....my BF had a free standing dishwasher at the end of his kitchen counter...I never used it when I did dishes there...it was more of a hassle then it was worth...and a junk collector on top....

I had a portable apartment size dishwasher many years ago, from Sears. It connected to the kitchen faucet by a special adapter. You used it then wheeled it out of the way when not needed. When we remodeled the kitchen 3 years later, we installed it permanently under the countertop.

My dishwasher broke down one morning before work - it took me three boxes of chcolate and two bottles of wine before she would start working again

Couldn't you fit the dishwasher in some of the cabinets beside the cooker or sink? That's the layout of my apartment kitchen.

That's a good idea, although you will lose storage space, but you can always use vertical space for storage, like adding corner wall shelving and a pot hanger from the ceiling. Also, from your picture it looks like the dishwasher may be a touch too tall to install under the cabinet, in that case, you can always remove the flooring (1/2"?) and subflooring (1/4") and reinforce the studs.
