Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists and the puppet warlike forces of south Korea kicked off joint military exercises for striking areas of the north from the West Sea of Korea on Monday, according to south Korean KBS.
A nuclear submarine, Aegis destroyer and various other warships were involved in the exercises which would last till May 10 under the signboard of combined anti-submarine exercises.
They plan to hurl even the U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Nimitz into the naval strike drill in the East Sea of Korea in the wake of the saber-rattling.
They are intensifying the anti-north war drills with reinforced nuclear force in a bid to ignite a nuclear war at any cost. -0-
(CNN) -- Two North Korean Musudan missiles have been withdrawn from a launch site in the eastern part of the country and sent to a storage facility, a U.S. official confirmed Monday. The United States had been worried about the prospects of the regime firing the missiles. For weeks last month, North Korea dished out daily sabre-rattling threats aimed at South Korea and the United States. The North's rhetoric intensified after the U.N. Security Council voted in March to slap tougher sanctions on the regime and amid U.S.-South Korean military drills in the region.
SEOUL, May 7 (Yonhap) -- North Korea's military warned Tuesday that it would mercilessly avenge any breach of its territorial sovereignty by South Korea or the United States during their ongoing anti-submarine drills near the Yellow Sea border.
The Southwestern Front Command of the North Korea's armed forces said it has directed its troops to immediately strike back in case even a single bombshell is dropped into the North's territory from the exercise, which began on Sunday, according to Pyongyang's official news agency, KCNA.

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK gave the following answer to a question raised by KCNA on Tuesday as regards Israel's aggressive military attack on Syria:
Recently Israel let fighters mount missile strikes at targets in Damascus and its vicinity.
This brigandish act is a grave encroachment upon the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and a wanton violation of international law.
The military attack on a sovereign state can never be justified in any case.
Israel is becoming evermore undisguised in its moves for aggression under the patronage of the U.S. Such ceaseless moves are the main cause of disturbing peace and stability of the Mideast.
We strongly denounce the brigandish aggression moves of Israel and extend full support and solidarity to the Syrian and other Arab people in their just struggle to defend the sovereignty and security of their countries. -0-

(2nd LD) Park says she trusts her troops in handling N. Korea's provocation
WASHINGTON, May 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korean President Park Geun-hye said Tuesday she would fully trust an assessment and response by her troops in case of a future North Korean provocation.
"If North Korea engages in provocation, I will fully trust the judgment of our military," Park said during a joint press conference with U.S. President Barack Obama after their summit talks at the White House.
"So if our military makes a judgment which they feel is the right thing, that they should act accordingly. And this is the instruction that I had made," she added.
Park reaffirmed that Seoul would make Pyongyang pay the price for any provocations.
Park emphasized that the North will have to make a right choice as early as possible, as the South is ready for inter-Korean talks and cooperation.
"We also shared the view that realizing President Obama's vision of a world without nuclear weapons should start in the Korean Peninsula," Park said.
Obama said he agrees with Park's approach toward North Korea revolving around a vision of bringing peace and stability to the peninsula through a process of building mutual trust.
"President Park's approach is very compatible with my approach and the approach that we have been taking together for several years now," Obama said.

(full text) Full text of joint declaration by South Korea and the U.S. on alliance
WASHINGTON, May 7 (Yonhap) -- Following is the full text of the Joint Declaration in Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Alliance between the Republic of Korea (South Korea) and the United States.
For six decades, the U.S.-ROK Alliance has served as an anchor for stability, security, and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula, in the Asia-Pacific region, and increasingly around the world. President Barack Obama of the United States of America and President Park Geun-hye of the Republic of Korea, meeting in Washington, D.C., on May 7, 2013, present this Joint Declaration in celebration of sixty years of bilateral partnership and shared prosperity. The two leaders affirm that the Alliance is well-placed to address the opportunities and challenges of the future.
The U.S.-ROK Alliance, forged in the Korean War and founded on the 1953 United States-Republic of Korea Mutual Defense Treaty, has evolved into a comprehensive strategic alliance with deep cooperation extending beyond security to also encompass the political, economic, cultural, and people-to-people realms. The freedom, friendship, and shared prosperity we enjoy today rest upon our shared values of liberty, democracy, and a market economy.
Building on the past sixty years of stability on the Korean Peninsula, we continue to strengthen and adapt our Alliance to serve as a linchpin of peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific and to meet the security challenges of the 21st century. The United States remains firmly committed to the defense of the Republic of Korea, including through extended deterrence and the full range of U.S. military capabilities, both conventional and nuclear.
This year also marks another milestone for our two nations -- the first anniversary of the entry into force of the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA). This agreement embodies the positive evolution of our partnership and demonstrates how deeply the United States and the Republic of Korea are committed to a shared future of growth and prosperity. We are pleased to note the positive results of the KORUS FTA, including increased trade and investment between our two countries, and recognize its potential for expanding bilateral cooperation and business opportunities, including in the energy sector. Our two countries will fully implement the KORUS FTA to ensure that the agreement serves as an economic growth engine in both our countries.
We are pleased with the significant progress made in realizing the 2009 Joint Vision for the Alliance of the United States of America and the Republic of Korea, which lays out a blueprint for the future development of our strategic Alliance. We pledge to continue to build a better and more secure future for all Korean people, working on the basis of the Joint Vision to foster enduring peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and its peaceful reunification based on the principles of denuclearization, democracy and a free market economy. In this context, the United States and the Republic of Korea will continue to work through the Alliance to bring North Korea in to compliance with its international obligations and promote peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula, including through the trust-building process initiated by President Park.
We share the deep concern that North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missiles programs and its repeated provocations pose grave threats to the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia. Both the United States and the Republic of Korea are determined to achieve the peaceful denuclearization of North Korea and are working with other Six-Party Talks partners and the international community to insist that North Korea adheres to its international obligations and commitments. While we invite North Korea to take the path that leads out of isolation and to join the community of nations as a responsible member, we are resolved to continue to defend our citizens against North Korea's provocations by strengthening our comprehensive, interoperable, and combined defense capabilities, to include shared efforts to counter the missile threat posed by North Korea and integrated intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems. Because both the United States and the Republic of Korea share a deep concern for the well-being of the North Korean people, we encourage North Korea to invest in, and improve, the conditions for its citizens and to respect their basic human rights.
The peace and prosperity of both our nations are inextricably linked to regional and global security and economic growth. Based on the solid U.S.-ROK Alliance, we are prepared to address our common challenges and seek ways to build an era of peace and cooperation in Northeast Asia. The U.S.-ROK Alliance is an increasingly global partnership, and the United States welcomes the Republic of Korea's leadership and active engagement on the world stage, including in international fora. We will strengthen our efforts to address global challenges such as climate change and to promote clean energy, energy security, human rights, humanitarian assistance, development assistance cooperation, counter-terrorism, peaceful uses of nuclear energy, nuclear safety, non-proliferation, cybersecurity, and counter-piracy.
Our sixty years of partnership and shared prosperity have demonstrated that the strength of our Alliance stems from the close relationships between our peoples. The large Korean-American community in the United States not only serves as a significant link between our two countries, but also makes countless contributions to the strength and vitality of American society. We pledge to continue programs and efforts to build even closer ties between our societies, including cooperation among business, civic, academic, and other institutions.
As allies and Asia-Pacific nations, we look forward to shaping together the future of Asia for generations to come.

(LEAD) U.N. appoints three investigators for N. Korea rights abuses
SEOUL, May 7 (Yonhap) -- The United Nations Human Rights Council on Tuesday appointed three experts to investigate widespread human rights violations in North Korea for its landmark commission, Seoul's foreign affairs ministry said.
The appointment comes after the U.N. council's 47 member states approved a resolution in March that paved the way for establishing a "Commission of Inquiry" into the alleged rights abuses in North Korea, upgrading the level of investigation to be on par with probes into Syria.
U.N. special rapporteur Marzuki Darusman; Michael Kirby, a former Justice of the High Court of Australia; and Sonja Biserko, a Serbian human rights activist, will lead the special commission to launch a formal investigation into human rights abuses in the isolated state for one year.
The commission is expected to submit interim reports to the meeting of U.N. Commission on Human Rights in September and the U.N. General Assembly in October, as well as release a comprehensive report on March next year, according the ministry.
North Korea had reacted with indignation to the U.N. decision to set up the commission, flatly denying human rights abuses under its ruler Kim Jong-un.
Human rights advocacy groups have long called for international efforts to stop genocide and crimes against humanity in the communist country, which they claim are being systematically carried out by North Korean authorities.
Activists said North Korea is holding thousands of political prisoners in at least six facilities where they face extrajudicial executions, torture and forced labor.
The communist country has been accused of human rights abuses for decades, ranging from holding hundreds of thousands of political prisoners to torture and public executions.
Pyongyang has flatly denied the accusations, calling them a U.S.-led attempt to topple its regime.

U.S., S. Korean Warmongers Urged to Heed KPA's Warning: KCNA Commentary
Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- The U.S. and south Korean warmongers restarted shelling drills targeted against the areas of the north side from the waters off Paekryong and Yonphyong islands in the West Sea of Korea from May 5.
They launched a joint anti-submarine drill in the West Sea on Monday and they are mulling staging joint naval war exercises with the nuclear-powered carrier Nimitz task force involved from about Friday.
This is a premeditated provocation to drive the present war-like situation on the Korean Peninsula to an actual war.
There is the world's largest concentration of war hardware including nukes on the Korean Peninsula and it has no solid mechanism for preventing a war. That is why there can be no local war on the peninsula. Even a slight provocation may immediately develop into a total nuclear war, regional one and a new world war in the end.
Moreover, the Korean Peninsula has been put into the state of war owing to the persistent sanctions of the U.S. and its allies against the DPRK and Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint war exercises staged on an unprecedented scale for two months.
It is not without reason that they openly started shelling drill against the DPRK in the most dangerous hotspot in the southwestern sector of the front.
It is their scenario to mount a surprise nuclear strike at the north from the West Sea of Korea, with the shelling provocation from the waters off Paekryong and Yonphyong islands as a curtain-raiser, and escalate the war in the East Sea of Korea with huge nuclear war means involved.
It is an extremely dangerous nuclear war drumbeat to carry out their scenario for the second Korean War which had already been tested through Key Resolve and Foal Eagle.
All facts once again prove that the U.S. imperialists' policy of threatening and blackmailing the DPRK with nukes remains unchanged and it was entirely just when the DPRK took an option for all-out action against them.
The enemies would be well advised to ponder over the warning served by the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK through the order issued by the Korean People's Army (KPA) Command of the southwestern sector of the front.
Our revolutionary armed forces are fully ready to launch a general offensive to seize the south at a go in line with the firepower striking plan finally ratified by the Supreme Commander.
In case even a single shell drops over the territorial waters of the north during the provocative shelling drills of the enemies in the southwestern waters, they will encounter a prompt counteraction of our revolutionary armed forces.
Units of the rocket force deployed in the southwestern sector of the front will go into a prompt action to reduce the five islands in the West Sea to sea in flames, to begin with.
Our all-out action to be rapidly escalated in the future will demonstrate the will and capability of Songun Korea. -0-
KPA Command in Southwestern Sector of Front Issues Order for Its Units to Make Counterstrike at Enemies
Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- The Command of the Korean People's Army in the southwestern sector of the front announced the following report on Tuesday:
No sooner had the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises against the DPRK been ended than the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean puppet forces restarted shelling drills targeted against the areas of the north side from the waters off Paekryong and Yonphyong islands in the West Sea of Korea from May 5.
The prevailing situation goes to prove that they are persisting in their premeditated military provocations in a bid to push the present state of war to an actual war.
What matters is that such military provocations are timed to coincide with the U.S.-south Korea joint anti-submarine exercises started in the West Sea of Korea from May 6 and the dangerous U.S.-south Korea joint naval war drill to be staged in the East Sea of Korea from about May 10 even with the super-large nuclear-powered carrier Nimitz involved.
The Command issued the following order to those units under it in view of the prevailing situation:
KPA units in the southwestern sector of the front will take immediate counteractions in case even a single shell drops over the territorial waters of our side due to the enemies' provocative shelling in the southwestern waters.
In case the enemies recklessly counter our counterstrikes, all striking forces will turn the five islands in the West Sea of Korea into a sea in flames with prompt actions of units of the rocket forces deployed in the southwestern sector of the front.
All the units and sub-units under the KPA Command in the southwestern sector of the front will simultaneously start military actions, in line with the operation plan finally ratified by the KPA Supreme Command, by the future order.
If the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean puppet military gangsters finally launch an adventurous war of aggression against the DPRK, it will never miss an opportunity. -0-

China's suspension of dealings with N. Korean bank 'significant': Seoul
SEOUL, May 8 (Yonhap) -- China's decision to end financial dealings with a key North Korean foreign exchange bank is a "significant" step that may severely punish North Korea for its internationally-condemned nuclear ambitions, a Seoul official said Wednesday.
The comments came one day after the state-run Bank of China said it had ended transactions with the Foreign Trade Bank of North Korea. The move is seen as part of China's punitive actions against the North's long-range missile launch in December and its third nuclear test conducted on Feb. 12 in defiance of the international community.
Given that the North Korean foreign exchange bank is its de facto channel to settle financial trade dealings with China, the decision is "a very significant and effective measure," a Seoul official said.
"Trade with China accounts for almost all of North Korea's official commerce with foreign countries," the official said, adding that it is imaginable how severe an impact the latest decision may be to the North.
Following the North's February nuclear test, the U.S. in March imposed its own sanction on the North Korean foreign exchange bank, which it said was used as the financial channel for the communist country's development of nuclear arms and other weapons of mass destruction.
The latest punitive action by China came as part of its growing role in the international community's efforts to deter North Korea from nuclear arms and ballistic missile development.
Under the new leadership of Xi Jinping, China, which had long turned a blind eye to the actions of the communist country, has shown intentions of joining the international community in punishing the North of its nuclear ambitions.

The country, which repeated provocative remarks toward the US recently, has kept its military ready for war for a long time. Is now using the same remarks on the land,as it plants rice.
N.Korea calls for "war of rice planting"
Observers say North Korea is now relaxing war preparedness and mobilizing people toward overcoming its acute food shortages.
The Wednesday edition of the ruling Workers' Party newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, carried an editorial that called for a war of rice planting by all people.
The editorial said the present situation demands North Koreans achieve food self- sufficiency. It warned that if a single day of May, the season for rice planting, is lost, it will result in the loss of grains of rice.
It said if the country has plenty of food it can go ahead with economic and nuclear development despite opposition and conspiracy by the United States or others.
The editorial then urged the public to wage a war of rice cultivation and achieve this year's target for grain crops.
Every year, North Korea has a shortfall of about one million tons of food. The country's leadership admitted at the Supreme People's Assembly held last month that the food shortage is an urgent problem.
The country, which repeated provocative remarks toward the US recently, has kept its military ready for war for a long time.
The latest editorial reflects the urgency in mobilizing people, including troops, to boost food production.

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- The new line of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) on simultaneously pushing forward with economic construction and the building of nuclear force makes it possible to bring earlier the building of a thriving socialist nation and the country's reunification, resolutely foiling the U.S. and other hostile forces' moves to invade the DPRK and defending the sovereignty of the country.
Rodong Sinmun Tuesdays says this in a bylined article. It goes on:
The DPRK's access to nuclear deterrent is the exercise of its just right to defend the supreme interests and peace of the country from the vicious moves of the U.S. and the south Korean puppet forces to invade the DPRK.
The U.S. has recently amassed its military forces in the Asia-Pacific region as part of its aggression moves against the DPRK.
The DPRK's smaller and powerful precision nuclear deterrent is making futile the U.S. and the puppet forces' attempt to ignite a nuclear war against it.
With the U.S. becoming evermore undisguised in its frantic attempt to ignite a nuclear war, if the DPRK had not have a powerful nuclear force, a thermonuclear war would have broken out on the Korean Peninsula.
The DPRK will never abandon its nuclear force as long as the U.S. persists in its aggression moves and threat of nuclear war against the DPRK.
The U.S. and the puppet forces should never dream of making a deal with the DPRK over its building of nuclear force at the DPRK-U.S. or north-south negotiations.
Steadfast is the DPRK's stand to glorify it as the best country that any aggressors dare not invade, and achieve the historic desire for national reunification with economic construction and the building of nuclear force as a pair of pillars. -0-
