Money,Money,Money.

Give a man Money, he has power. Give a man Power, he will want more. Eventually he will destroy himself.

So far the US is very close to it's end.
After WW2 and the treaty was signed that made the US dollar as the primary oil currency, the US quickly became a super power. They used it at their advantage to kick the Soviet Unions big hairy red butt.

Dare someone threaten the US's main source of power? Well, someone has already done so many times. The only option was to retaliate.

Have any of you noticed that every country that tried to change it's primary oil selling currency, was threatened and attacked by the US?

Iraq, November, 2000 — After a decade of death, Iraq announced that it would no longer sell its oil for US dollars, but exclusively for Euros. This attack on the dollar was not to be tolerated, as it reduced profits the US enjoyed from being the middleman. The US government, using the powerful mass media, easily convinced the American citizens that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, and of harboring al-Qaeda.

Libya, February 2011 — Muammar Gaddafi was organizing a group of North African countries, developing a new, gold-backed currency called the Dinar. The intended use of this currency? To remove dependency on the dollar and the euro, as the countries participating in this plan would accept only gold dinars in exchange for their products and resources.
US and NATO forces launched air strikes in Libya, allowing Gaddafi to be brutally murdered in cold blood, and immediately setting up a central bank, similar to the fed, that of course, would only deal with dollars.

February 2012 — Iranian central bank governor Mahmoud Bahmani announces that they will begin accepting gold as payment for oil. For quite some time Iran had been actively trying to escape the dollar, leading to prolonged “minor” sanctions for decades. This announcement was immediately followed by massive amounts of media coverage regarding the potential nuclear threat of Iran. This was followed by devastating sanctions, which have the explicit goal of crippling Iran’s economy.
A country that had not attacked another country since 1798 suddenly became the greatest threat to the national security to the United States, according to Governor Mitt Romney in the recent presidential debate on foreign policy.

China is changing it's primary oil selling currency to the Yuan. China is BIG, The US can't just kick china and call them a threat to the world and then bomb their cities. The US can't really touch china.
But have you noticed the recent cyber attacks on the US? Like the one on the Wall Street Journal?
Who was blamed for hacking? China. Then there where other hacking attempts...who was blamed? China.

Then Obama is talking about taking serious actions with cyber threats. Could this be Chinas turn to face this corrupt propaganda? Or perhaps China really hacking the US?
The US could retaliate against China's oil currency decision through cyber warfare in order to avoid physically dealing with China.

The problem is, are people really that blind? Do they not see through the obvious lies and corruption? You can tell them to buy a corndog because just go buy one, and they will do it. They don't bother to question and think. Many people in this world are just like soldiers. They just do what are told.

It doesn't matter anymore.

Power is about resources, not money. Though those resources can be converted to a fiat currency of some sort. So you are partially right. It's all in the spin. ain't it?

I think that everybody is greedy at some level. Regardless of whether it is a government (local or otherwise) or individual. It's called self-preservation.

There is a part of me that suspects the cyber attacks are all a pre-arranged plan by both sides, though I have no proof. Just a gut feeling.

America was a "superpower" before WWII actually. That term was given to the United States during the Cold War after the Soviets referred to themselves as one.

Oil had really nothing to do with our status after the war. The fact that our industry remained unscathed from the war meant we were far ahead of everyone in the world in terms of raw production. We finished the war with around 1.5 million well fed and well trained soldiers as well as most of our military equipment in tact.

This allowed us to extort influence around the world much easier than other nations. Berlin Blockade was a prime example of this.

We also had the atom bomb with put an exclamation point behind American prowess and insured that nobody would try to undermine our efforts with war.

There are quite a number of reasons why America propspered after the war other than just the point in your OP. That by itself would not have been enough.

Would it be fair to say that the military industrial complex has been in control of the US since WWII?

The need to Protect the US Greenback as the Worlds Currency is even Greater now.
With the Fed printing out Money Monthly to the tune of 40 Billion.
A Deficit of 17 trillion is mere chump change compared to the Libilities with SS and Medicare, and retirement of Federal Employees. at a whopping 86 Trillion, 7 trillion , SEVEN TRILLION a year just on Interest of unpaid SS and Medicare. online.wsj.com...
So without the Global Need for Greenbacks, the US would see Austerity worse than Greece or Ireland.
That wont wash in the the Land of the Fat and Lazy... therefore... Next Stop... Iran.

You call the US greedy... we made China who they are; China would be nothing if we didn't buy their products. We control them, that’s not greed that is smart. What would happen if we banned imports from them? They would go broke, our business adventures there would have to return to the US or relocate to another country. That alone would send their economy down the tubes… they may push a few buttons to try and prove a point, but it want work, they know we hold the key to their economic boom.

How many things do you have that are made in China?

India!

the USA was greedy.. but they cant even afford to do that anymore. I dont think the US$ will be worthless, i just think it will be incredibly difficult for 99.9% of Americans to ever get any in their banks...

if Americans aren't ready to accept the fact they are just as mindless, medicated and controlled as the Chinese are, then who am I to judge. You dont seem to be doing anything significant to stop your own bankers or government from doing this to you?!
