Is it customary for rental car license plates to be issued government plates?

I've never seen that before.

.gov

Would mean it's government. Right?

I don't know, just makes no sense.

Anyone who has rented a car before, have you ever noticed that?

Just weird that's all.

I know when I rented a car, I don't remember seeing that.

Who's renting from whom?

Answer that question first, then we'll have something to work with.

I have rented many cars, and I don't remember ever noticing that.

It's possible that I wasn't paying close enough attention, but I think I would have caught that.

What company did you rent from?

maybe it's an ex-government car, they sell them when they're not needed anymore and are usually well looked after.so it wouldn't suprise me if rental company's buy them.

Can you post a pic? I think you may be confusing true gov plates with state tags that have the state's .gov web address on them. A lot of states have started putting their web addys on their personal issued tags. Kinda like they all had/have the state motto on the plates.

Here is my thought, because cars are expensive and the economy is as it is, and all the cut backs are happening may be instead of giving visiting FBI agent Joe Bob a car from your depot(which is thin as it is) you rent him one and he puts on his government tags to identify himself as Government. Just a thought.

It is cheaper to purchase plates and rent than it is to buy both I would think.

Govt. license plates are controlled items and would not be sold with the vehicle.

Though it is possible a mistake was made, it is very unlikely it would have gone unnoticed long enough for it to have been rented out to someone.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Not enough info. .gov looks to me like a suffix for a web address, rather than something signifying government on a license plate. Is it state, federal, local?? The plate should give some indication.

Federal guide.

Naturally, there are plenty of state and local governments and probably all have their own way of doing things. I've never seen any national car rental place buy used cars for rental purposes. But there are probably mom and pop places that could.

So, not enough info to render a conclusion.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

It's an Impala, it's a nice car. But he said he rented it from AVIS and it's from Nebraska.

Still, when I rented my car, it never had a .gov plate on it.

Guess I shouldn't worry, considering it will be easy to find the vehicle.

Duh, it is a website.

Whatever.

Hey, no problem. Without asking questions, you'd never know for sure, right?

US Govt license plates

Local govt type plates or police cars will usually just say "exempt" on them

Do you mean like this?

If so I think that's just what their plates look like. It's the first thing that comes up if you google Nebraska license plates anyhow

.gov???

I've never seen a licensplate with "." anything on it.

.gov is for government websites....I don't quite follow you...very confusing and disjointed writing.

OMG...I honestly hope the OP is not that paranoid to freak out over the states website on a license plate.

I don't think ATS is for everyone.

How is this fair?

I have to transfer $500 of my money for them to take the trip, into his account for a bigger car,

I really disapprove of this. Ugh.

This is not fair.

I'm taking cash out, screw that.

$500 is a lot money though.

That I don't have to give away.

I'll pay it because I'm a fool.

Ridiculous

I don't think even ATMs give out that much.

W/O being called of course.

Amazing at how fast they got here.

Leaving, so if you don't hear from me, you know why.
