hi all

I thought this was interesting. Anyone shocked the US is ranked so low?

en.rsf.org...

After the “Arab springs” and other protest movements that prompted many rises and falls in last year’s index, the 2013 Reporters Without Borders World Press Freedom Index marks a return to a more usual configuration. The ranking of most countries is no longer attributable to dramatic political developments. This year’s index is a better reflection of the attitudes and intentions of governments towards media freedom in the medium or long term

rest of the list at the link
1st finland

Germany #17

and my highly esteemed nordic neighbours (Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark) are all at the top!

Ha, Germany beats out the US. I just find that ironic, nothing against present day Germany

Well I'm looking at the top 10 list and gonna day dream tomorrow at work about my future move to said countries. The Netherlands might just hit the spot.

I also find it funny Jamaica beats out the US as well coming in at lucky number 13.

It's actually up from last year for the United States.

The USA being a bit low down doesn't surprise me.

Accidents seem to happen to media persons now and again over there. Or sometimes they just get pepper sprayed by 'accident' like the wall street protests.

I've no doubt the USA are playing with a self-imposed handicap, just to keep the game interesting.
