So apparently this man has been in custody for at least 6 months, his family fled after he was arrested to(?) Some family members appealed to the Australian government for help but so far it seems our Department of foreign affairs has been unable to get any information about him or even see if he's still alive. His name was recently published online in a list of over 100 foreign nationals arrested on terror related charges.

I am seeing many instances of 'aid' being linked to western backed rebels. Is this why opposition forces and certain groups are targeting aid workers so much recently? You would be a brave person to work for an 'aid' agency these days. Its almost as if aid work is being used as a cover by the west. Even if aid agencies are not actively supporting western backed rebels I wonder if aid agencies can really be trusted to leave politics out of their work. It concerns me that aid agencies are used to gain public support for invading nations or supporting terrorists. Who the heck are these people that work at these Rights Observatories and can their opinions be trusted?

Having an aid worker being accused of having terror links should concern all genuine aid workers. Aid workers have already become targets of anti-western extremists.

Free Syrian Army Australian head Zaky Mallah said he encouraged Australians to continue travelling to Syria to provide aid or battle Assad's forces, despite the violence plaguing the country.

So this moron who calls himself the leader of the FSA in Australia is pretty much telling Australian citizens to incriminate themselves by battling against Assad forces? Send this prick back to Syria with the rest of them who want to support acts of terrorism in Syria.

Sorry, I really don't care what the fate of that traitor is. If he loves fighting for Syria, he can stay there.. He is not a true Australian. He didn't think about Australian law when he decided to associate with terrorists and was arrested. As for any other Australians who think its a great idea to go over, good luck and stay there. We don't need you terrorists back in our country.

Wonder how many they all plan on raping including children the sick dogs.

So what are these aid workers doing? Examining the raped women and children after the FSA are done with them? Taking photos of the bodies and blaming Assad? I really couldn't care about their fate. if they feel its their obligation to meddle in Syria then they can stay and die their also. Only sickos would go and support a bunch of barbarians like the Syrian opposition.

There is something inherently un- Australian in this story.

That is not how true Aussies roll...

Weird, it was only a week ago we were warned NOT to go to Syria and fight (for either side)

This article.. boy.. I tell you its a pretty impressive 'but predictable' Murdoch media piece..

It is unclear where Mr al-Kalkuni had lived in Australia, or when he was last settled here, but it is believed he visited as recently as last year.

is typical Australian media talk for 'we have no evidence suggesting he has ever been here.'
id say he was maybe here as a child, 1-5?, and has technical legal right to have an Australian passport, but has spent his life in Syria.

he was arrested in Dar'a, where it is believed he lived and operated a business
...

he wasn't just a fly by night fighter!

The government cant say one way or the other, so they'll leave it at an open ended, vague comment that can be palmed off, in future, if nessecary!

So, Murdoch media wants us to feel sympathetic, and RELATE towards this 'aussie'...

But, a few sentences lower

you have a spokesman for Bob Carr (because in today's world of email, mobiles and text..Bob Carr wasn't available to comment..)
..explaining that you could be arrested for joining in..

OK Bob, so why then are we putting in sympathetic and encouraging quotes FOR fighting with the Syrian rebels, if its illegal and we're telling people NOT to go?

"We need to find out where he is, what's happened to him and why Assad is free to lock up innocent people," Mr Mallah said.

Yes, its a quote from (MR MALLA) and cant be altered, but how many quotes could these Murdoch mentalmutts have used here? Of the 'pro' choices, why would he choose Mr Mallah's? who is slowly becoming a bit of a joke?

I dont know if people can see it, or aren't used to it.. but a news article like is this is nothing but pure brainwashing in its silkiest form from the governments and the Murdoch mob.

Because, here's the 'out' for this political mind game

Mr Mallah told Fairfax Media last week that about 250 Australians were providing aid in Syria, and acknowledged that some may be fighting with rebel forces.

For crying out loud, you should have just said:

You can go, just fight for the 'right' side. We will decide when you get back IF we convict you and remember..... your providing AID, not fighting with the rebels!!!

They are apparently Syrian descent which I guess gives them some right to go back to Syria but even then, by Australian Law, they are under no circumstances to fight and if that guy has been caught around terrorists, then he deserves to be in the slot whether he is or isn't Australian. As for Bob Carr, someone needs to knock that idiot off his perch.

Trying to goad a peaceful welcoming nation, into adopting an angst that we have no part or interest in?

Doesn't work that way...

The festy sores their parents left behind, heal when they are adopted into our culture.

Don't pick the scabs.

Ed; Be clear, this is by no means meant as a racial slur.

ie: If you are Syrian and passionate; use the term "Syrian" alone. Do not try to include an obviously adopted country as a platform. Regardless of the message.

As for what your saying, your right. The guy has gone over most likely knowing what hes going to be doing and when he has been busted is looking for our country to bail him out. This is a guy who most likely wouldn't fight for Australia, why should we fight to get him out of an obvious crime he has committed?

Theres another Lebanese idiot who went over aswell, took pictures of himself posing with an AK but didn't fight because of the laws in Australia. He went on a TV show and pretty much said that if the government gave him the all clear, he would be back fighting for the FSA within a week. The funny thing is, he isn't even Syrian and has the beard of a Jihadist. With that, he was charged and then acquitted of threatening ASIO.. Obviously the guy has some sort of extremism tied to him. I say send him over aswell and hopefully a scud gets dropped on his idiotic head.
