All right then, I will say it- the world is not going to end on December 21st. If the Mayans couldn't predict that Pizarro was going to show up and shatter their world then it's unlikely they have the ability to predict anything else reliably either.

Besides, wasn't their "end of the world" actually more like the "end of their calendar that just rolls into the next calendar", like December 31st rolls into January 1st??

Thank you for your post, I figured I'd get your not a caring person...or something along those lines. And yes alot of people have spent alot of money on this date, here again, it is up to the individual to decide what they need to do for themselves, and their families. I personally am not going to leave my house for a week. I'm just glad I live in a small town, and know alot of people. If I lived in a big city.....I'd head to a small town to chill for a week.

We as humans posses the abitity to discern what is fact and what is not. Some more than others. Some are swayed on what is actual facts. It aslo depends on beliefs, ect. ect. Here again, it is up to the individual. My take on reality is totally different than yours, I'm sure. Just like what is normal to you is not normal to me. Who is wrong and who is right?? No One, because you are right in your own eyes, and vice-versa.

My ol' man and I were discussing if SHTF, I told him the luck I have I will live through it no matter what, whether that is a good thing or not is yet to be seen. I have eaten ALOT of sh!t in my life. We need to go back to a simpler way of life. A hand shake means more to me than someones word. Kinda like politics, I just don't see the rational of screwing the little guy to get ahead. Again, thank you for your kind words.

Don't stress too much Ricky. A GC to a nice local restaurant is always a welcomed gift. Gives the recipients a chance to get out and relax, have a good meal, on your dime I've always appreciated getting them.

When I used to own a restaurant, I sold a lot of them...the people who got them, always used them too. I used to let the person buying the GC have the option of leaving a bottle of wine, if they wanted for the person they bought the GC for. I'd put the bottle in a bag with the GC# on it. When the GC was turned in for use, I'd check the shelf where I kept those bottles, and look to see if there was matching bottle of wine for the GC#, and deliver it to the table with a cheery, this is from your friend who gave you the GC. Was always a big hit!

If you are buying from a restaurant you know well, you could look into this option for making it extra-special, for someone extra-special.

If there are a number of people who do commit suicide in the days following the 21st, is it really a bad thing?
These people are the fringe types anyway. They clearly don't have critical thinking skills. Are their kind of thoughts benificial to society anyway?

I do feel for the loved ones left behind but I suspect they knew person X was way out there anyway.

Maybe that's the big change comming! Less of a fringe society! I never though of that way before!

heck, I even seriously kinda plan of suicide too, if NOTHING really happens on that 21 December 2012 date!

You asked why?
well, the simplest, and probably even the deepest reason on why there will be many suicides,
is because most people are more inclined/willing to believe, and have ALREADY believed in all those "fantasy, magical, & out-of-the-real-world" things about the whole "2012" things and especially that 21 December 2012 date!
that the human's Imagination is always far 100x much more interesting & vivid/lively and full of variety (not to mention much more mysterious, and fascinating!),
rather than this seemingly mundane, "dry", boring everyday's reality or "real-world / real-life" .

Most of these people probably won't be able to handle/endure another "NOTHING changes", mundane, harsh, boring, & same reality, day by day, over and over again... no more!!... especially with the worsened society & humanity (ie: more shallow, dumb, stupid, shallow & meaningless materialism and plastic superficiality) as each year seems to pass by.

All I know is I'm going to go buy a rifle, stock up on ammo and water and baked beans. Now we all know why their are gas masks in my Apocalypse bunker. No seriously, i need this stuff to stay away from the crazy and protect my family if the 21st makes people go nuts, that's what worries me.

Then there are all the people who I know that are convinced the 21st will kill us all. Yet they all go to work, and they all have most of their Christmas shopping done.

This 2012 is making me lose faith in a lot of people here. It's teaching me things. I used to think that people here were intelligent and informed, were free tinkers, and were AWAKE. It is I who is misinformed and really AWAKENING to the truth. That humanity is just plain stoopid. Here and everywhere else.

Mentally ill people do get better and many are working with familys etc.
Just like Hitler, he said they are a burden and gassed them.
In any decent society we look after the people who are ill, In fact this makes our society better in many ways.

Vaedur, I don't think there will be any mass hysteria over the coming and going of 12/21/12. Just some select pockets of some cults that have no hope for anything, but something happening on this date. Maybe some unstable individuals who don't have even a semi-firm grasp on reality. My concern is for mainly children of those unstable enough to decide to kill their whole families, thinking they are doing the right thing.

Be careful with guns, and paranoia, mixed together.....

Wow seriously wow.. as a matter of fact I do work daily with the mentally ill and let me tell you a fascinating story my friend... Resident X is a really awesome dude went and served his country and came back with a head injury.. now he thinks and acts as though he's about 3 or 4 years old.... (through no fault of his own..) and if that is how you would like to repay people because they can't contribute to "your" society then may you or your loved ones never have any kind of accident that damages your brain or ability to function since you will be a burden to society.

I think that most people involve with the Mayan prophecy thing only did it to make money or sell things.

If people actually believed in this stuff, then they probably would be gullible enough to believe just about any shysters who shuck things like this.

December 21'st will come and go. Life will go on as usual for most of us.

That's not the type I was thinking about. Besides it doesn't sound as if he wants to kill himself.

I'm talking about the 'heaven's gate' type. If they get so stuck in some insane theory that they can't live without then I have no problem with them removing themselves.

Your standared doomsday prepper is not a problem. They contribute to society and don't cause problems. In fact they are good for the economy because they spend all their cash now instead of planning for a sedintary retirement.

Those that are in between like many of the youth on here will get a terrific lesson in life. They may be all frazzled out on the 20th but come the 22nd they will have a new (and sceptical) outlook on all the crazy things they see posted on the web.

This is a concern for me too-i have quite a few aquaintances that are completely convinced they're going to ascend-some have built their lives around it,lost all interest in college/work,etc,living for that day.Luckily some are sensible enough to be okay with whatever happens-or dont.But others-frankly tragedies are going to be a certainty,if not among my own aquaintances,then among someones.Please keep an eye on loved ones,family,and friends whom you know for a fact,attaches an unhealthy and unreasonable expectation to this day,to whom its an obsession,or a firm belief-just in case.

When Harold Camping predicted the rapture there were A TON of people that believed it to be true. There weren't any stories (that I heard of) of mass suicides.
