Syrian tanks enter Golan DMZ

Three Syrian tanks entered the demilitarized zone in the Golan Heights on Saturday, prompting Israel to complain to U.N. peacekeepers, a military spokesman said. The foray would be the first such violation in 40 years and hikes concerns that violence from Syria's civil war could heat up a long-quiet frontier.

Israel's relatively low-key response of turning to the U.N. suggested it did not see the Syrian armor as an immediate threat.

But the entry marks the most serious spillover of Syria's turmoil at the frontier to date. Misfired Syrian shells have exploded inside Israel on several occasions and a tourist site was temporary shut after armed Syrians were spotted near by recently.

Ok. This is NOT a good development.

The article continues:

The three tanks entered the DMZ on Saturday and Israel lodged a complaint with the peacekeepers, an Israeli military spokeswoman said, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with military protocol. She did not elaborate on what the tanks were doing.

The Israeli news site Ynet said the tanks and two armored personnel carriers drove a few kilometers (miles) away from Israeli military positions.

Someone is playing with the powder keg.

False Flag

The CIA/Mossad/MI5 supported rebels now have tanks. Just like they supposedly have choppers and artillery so they can strafe villages, shell civilians and Turkey and blame everything on innocent poor old Assad.

Looks liek Israel let the incursion pass without incident and merely complained to the UN. WWIII averted.

lol
I was just waiting for someone to arrive claiming this was CIA. Just like the CIA bombed Turkey and made Assad admit it. Just like the CIA dressed up hundreds of their agents as Assad's military for all their "staged" assaults on protesters. Just as the CIA managed to fly Syrian jets and Syrian choppers over urban areas slaughtering people.

Come on Assad apologists, where are you all now?

I've got to wonder about the wording of the USA Today article. Why use phrases like "Israeli Frontier" to describe the Golan Heights?

For a different spin:

More accurately, the Golan Heights is recognized internationally as Syrian territory, but the area was captured and then illegally annexed by Israel in the 1967 war. Israel responded to the tanks with restraint by complaining to UN peacekeepers.

UN officials said they could not immediately confirm Israel’s allegations, but if they are true it would be a violation of the 1974 disengagement agreement between Syria and Israel.
news.antiwar.com...

The real news seems to be the rest of the article, that makes it look like even the pro-rebel activist observers are admitting to the fact that the ant-Assad group is substantially beefed up by foreign jihadists of the Al Qaeda type (non tolerant of "heretics" to the extent of killing people for differing religious views).

What if the West keeps pushing its agenda of regime change in Syria? Will Israeli troops join the al-Qaeda terrorists and fight against Assad shoulder to shoulder? What a pretty picture!

Give the local military commander a cookie for staying cool.
In the middle east they are always prodding around to see if they can rile up their neighbors.

Back in 86 I was with the MFO in the Sinai. About once a week either the Egyptians or Israelis would break the lines of demarcation and then the other would do the same right next to an observation post just so the MFO knew.

Tit for Tat with military hardware.

The situation in Syria ist complicated...

"In February 2012, video footage was posted online showing a captured government tank, being used in Homs by FSA forces. The tank carried Syrian opposition flags and was seen firing with armed men in civilian clothes taking cover behind it. An FSA spokesman has said that the organization received three tanks from a group of 100 deserters from the Syrian army"

We are living in a crazy world. There are so many people with power to potentially start something massive, that it becomes hard to follow everything.

There are so many people who by just exercising a little bit of free will can be disastrous.

Either not a threat, or just no time to worry about it at the moment, while they plan an election day strike in Iran.

The Israeli response is the puzzling part for me.

While people consistently demonize the force Israel often exerts, over the past few months they have failed to respond to Egypt opening up the border, the UN strongly considering statehood for Palestine, the governments in Libya and Egypt both seemingly being handed over to the Muslim Brotherhood, and not Syria encroaching in the DMZ. Why hasn't Israel taken strong action yet? What do they have up their sleeve?

This is a non event and has nothing to do with Israel:

The vehicles entered Be’er Ajam, a Circassian village in the Syrian-controlled portion of the Golan Heights that is close to an IDF position on the border. Earlier on Saturday, locals near the Syrian border reported hearing heavy exchanges of fire between the Syrian army and rebels.

Israel lodged a complaint with the UN over the ceasefire violation. The defense establishment has concluded, however, that the movement of tanks was linked to the Syrian civil war, and not intended as an act of aggression against Israel.

It's spillover from the situation in Syria so I guess that makes me an Assad apologist

So you would have prefered they detroyed the the tanks and then launch a strike in retaliation?

Golden indeed!

UN General Assembly Passes 9 Resolutions Against Israel

I remember Bibi condemning the UN and it's criticism of Israel at his second last speech in NYC.

Now they are wanting to raise a fuss about land they have stolen, and the ceasefire wasn't even breached and the usual suspects automatically imply that those who know better will claim a false flag... even though its a fact that the FSA terrorists do have tanks stolen from Assad...even though this was a clearly documented scenario from all sides involved with no hint of false flag activity...which is rare when it comes to Israel.

Not really what I was saying, Just Pointing Out the Irony.
If Israel wanted more Credibility through the UN , Maybe they Shouldnt walk out, at the UN, on Countries they have Strife with.
And maybe they could follow a few Sanctions the UN have Installed on them.
